The Trail: Season 3, Chapter 7: Energy In The Air | Portland Trail Blazers Docuseries

Chauncey and I both signed extensions with the Trail Blazers recently. I think we■re in a really, really amazing place with the organization, with our team. Pick one word to describe this year for you. Maturing. I think that’s all we really needed to to see the team that we could be. Coming to next year. I think everybody■s just going to lock in. We flew to Portland this morning for the game. We just, you know, embracing Portland. It■s almost like me being back home. Dude, they love bickering back and forth. My name is Brent Atchley. I’m 40 years old, believe it or not, and I’m from Portland, Oregon. Portland’s just easy. You know, we’ve got the city, the mountains, the desert, the ocean, the Trail Blazers. I’ve been a Trail Blazer fan since 1984. Portland has diehard fans. You know, I’m really looking forward to watching the team grow together. Get in sync with each other. It’s important for the city to have a sports team like the Blazers, because I think it brings people together. It gives us all kind of a common thread, something to look forward to and relate to one another. All right. I can feel the energy in the air. Yeah. Sounds good. My name is Lucas Warner. Yuta Ichimura. John Stillwell. My name’s Bola. My name is Eufemio Reyes. I’m Mexican Indian, and I’m here to support my team, the Trail Blazers. I’ve been a Trail Blazer from 1990. We have a new young team. But now to me, they are superstars. They doing it. Sharpe: full player to me. We will be a champion sometime. I know that. My favorite part of attending the game is just the crowd, the energy, and the production is great. You know, we’ve got flames and dancers and music, sick halftime shows. Give it up for the Red Panda Acrobat. Rip City, let■s put our hands together for Ben. What gets me excited about this season is Deni and Toumani. Because how could you not? Like, the muscles from Brussels. What are we doing here? I’m Liz and I’m Ben. I’m Liz and I’m Ben. and we flew to Portland this morning for the game. I’ve been a Blazers fan since 2008. I love that this team really gets out on defense and tries to get out and run. My name is Charlene McGee. When the season starts, I say “The Moda Center becomes my home away from home” Because I’m here half the time. And it’s great to see Toumani, Shaedon, Deni, how they’ve been able to grow through the adversity, to really evolve and come into their own. You definitely feed off of your home fans, there’s no question about that. You know, our fans have been incredible all season. We know there■s been some tough nights. And they still show up. Show us love. Go Blazers! We gonna keep getting better and better and better. Welcome everybody. Lamar Hurd, Kevin Calabro Brooke Olzendam, and Tom Haberstroh as always. Game 82 of this marathon. Go get that DC! Seeing this type of excitement, potential, the possibilities with this young group. It’s nice. 109-81 the final. The Blazers defeating the Lakers to get 36 wins. How are we doing? All right. Good, good. Now it feels like everyone around the league knows who you are. Can you pick one word just to describe this year for you. What word would you pick? Why? I think, maturing, I think it■s the biggest word for me individually. And I think, like I keep saying, as a group, I feel like last year we were just trying to figure out a bunch of things. And, this year we actually been able to establish ourselves a little bit more. Everybody. Everything I’ve been doing, you know, these past two months, you know, the second half of the season, you know, really just trying to take everything and just take it to the next level. I think we’re really hungry. Dogs got to eat. So coming into next year, I think everybody’s just gonna focus and lock in. I think that’s all we really needed to to see the team that we could be. The future is super bright. I love playing with this team. We’re young, we’re exciting. We have a lot of talent. I think a lot of guys got better this past off-season and I expect them to get even better. You try to forge this identity of who you want to be. For us, for a long time, it just, it only existed conceptually over the course of the season, we were able to do it and prove it to ourselves. And I felt that that just compounded on itself and like it just built this momentum that became like this really beautiful thing. Appreciate it. I think offensively I’m still very raw. I mean, the past two years I had to play a different role and then kind of like switch my game and trying to adapt to a lot of new things. So I think it’s just a matter of time for me to get comfortable in the situation that I’m in today offensively, and I’m pretty comfortable now. I’m in the position that Coach and everybody put me in and the respect that I get from my teammates and stuff like that helped me to to be more confident in my in my offense every day. ♪ I been out living my dreams. ♪ ♪ Full speed. ♪ ♪ I ain’t losing no steam. ♪ ♪ Moving all over the map. ♪ ♪ It’s not where you from, ♪ ♪ but where you at. ♪ (indistinct chatter, coaching) Love it. This second offseason, man is going to be different. I’m very excited for it. Be able to work on my game. I’m very excited to get back on the court already with the guys. I think it’s just a perfect time for all of us to get better on our game and more comfortable with the situation we had with us, in Portland, or whatever, with our life in general. So I think it’s a time that■s very needed for us to resource ourself. I’m very excited of what we’re going to be able to do, the talent that we have and the mindset that everybody’s been on, lately. Towards the end of the season, I think gave me a lot of hope and excitement for next year. Everybody’s gonna be hungry. Everybody’s gonna come in with the right mentality. And, you know, I’m excited, excited to see how everybody spend their time throughout the summer. We just, you know, embracing Portland. It’s kind of almost like me being back home. Just seeing, like, you know what Portland is like. For real. Just being more vocal and, you know, just interact with fans. We showed a lot of growth this season, especially… We were in a situation where we were still trying to figure out who we were. Second half of the season we were just trying to take it to the next level. We showed that we were capable of winning, capable of being together, and win games. The future is super bright. Welcome, everybody. Thank you for coming. A lot we could get to today. So I want to get to as many questions as we can. Congrats. Thank you. Chauncey and I both signed extensions with the Trail Blazers recently. Big thanks to Jody Allen, Bert Kolde, this entire group. You know our staffs that are, you know, so impactful to the success we’re starting to see. Just really thankful for this opportunity and to get the chance to keep building this thing out. Everything happens for a reason. Everything happens how it■s supposed to. I■ve always believed that. Like, we’ve just kind of grown together. I’ve learned with the team. I still also know that I got so much growth in me too. Talk about potential. I look at myself, not just my players. I think I have incredible potential as a coach. So many levels to get to as well. It could be what I’m most proud of is the way we’ve navigated this together, and how we’ve stuck together and been through some difficult moments. We’re starting to celebrate some of the positive things that we’ve been trying to build. You know, there’s a lot of talent on this roster, and I wouldn’t put ceilings on a lot of these guys. Is that the logical next step for this team? The growth of this team is you’re in the postseason next year? Got to get through this transaction window before we start talking with certainty. But moving forward the playoffs are definitely a goal of ours. I’m so impressed with this young group and what’s going to move forward. I’m not thinking about what’s happening now. I’m worried about like in eight months. I think we■re in a really, really amazing place with the organization, with our team. So you can carry that momentum into the next season? Yessir, that■s stripes! These kids are growing. Kris Murray, 18 points in the second half. I think you all along with our fans can kind of see what we’ve been building, what we’ve been working on. We■re happy with how this season went. We■re really excited about what the future seasons will look like. Our challenge is keep finding players, keep developing players. It was a pleasure playing with y■all, man. Let■s be grateful today. Together on three: One, two, three. Together! This is really exciting for Blazer fans. The present and the future getting it done. Look at all of our young players and how they’re developing. Look at the young coach, how I■m developing. There■s so much promise. Thank you everybody. Thank you. Thank you.

As the season comes to a close, Rip City shows up and Toumani shows out.

  1. Love how humble Shaedon has become. Spending time in the city and getting to know the fans. He's really becoming a part of the Blazers in a huge way.
