NOT RUNNING IT BACK! Pat Riley Press Conference Takeaways! Miami Heat Rumors

[Music] We have a massive show on deck here at the Heat Report by Chat Sports. I am Nick Rolloff because Pat Riley did his end of the season press conference today. It was live streamed. I watched the entire thing. I have my top takeaways from this press conference because Riley shared a lot about his future, the future of Tyler Herro, Bameio, and potentially moves that could be made this upcoming off season. So, make sure you are subscribed and make sure you have your notifications turned on because we are going to put out content on the daily basis here all offseason long. And I don’t want you guys to miss anything we do. We have 22,300 subscribers, but only 2.9K of you, 13%, have your notifications turned to all. Make sure you have them on all so you don’t miss a piece of content we put out. All right, the number one takeaway. Pat Riley was dead stone cold asked, “Will this Heat roster be quote unquote running it back?” He said no. This is the exact quote that Riley had. Said, “We probably won’t run it back.” but players just won’t show up. You have to make deals. You have to look at the board. I think it’s a fascinating discussion of running it back. It made sense to a degree over the last four seasons at times. Like, yeah, I know a lot of people wanted the Heat to maybe go out and trade for James Harden after the bubble run, but it made sense to run it back, right? They just made it the finals and Goran was going to come back healthy. Jimmy Bam, hero year two, like it just didn’t work out. And I know it’s been frustrating to see the team and the roster stay relatively the same over the past couple of years, but now it makes sense, right? Like that they’re not going to run it back. It’s interesting though because the Heat have 14 players under contract. So if the Heat are going to change up the roster, you would look to the trade market to see if there is going to be a lot of changes to this roster. Now, I will be honest, folks. I’m a little bit skeptical of a crazy trade. Like, I don’t think they’re going to go out and make a Giannis deal. We could talk about the rumors of the Heater linked, but I don’t think it happens. I don’t think they go after Jaw. I don’t think they go after Trey. But it does sound like some moves around the margins could be made. Riley referred to a lot of lateral moves that could be beneficial by bringing in maybe not better players talentwise, but better fits around Tyler Bam, better uh leaders, if you will. So, there could be a lot of lateral moves made this off season rather than a crazy crazy upgrade. Let me know what was your biggest takeaway from the Pat Riley press conference. I think there’s a lot of things to discuss, but let me know which one you thought was the biggest down in the comments section. Pat Riley kind of committed to Bam and Hero going forward. Now, I know some people are going to say that Riley could be playing Koi and could be trying to up trade value, smoke screen season, whatever you want to say. It sounded legit from Pat Riley on my end. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I thought of Riley’s quotes today. He spoke very highly of Tyler Hero. We know last year in this same ex spot, he criticized Hero for not being able to stay healthy. This year, he said that Tyler is one of the most ignitable guys in the league. We’re happy to have him. He’s pivotal for us as an offensive player. We need more around him. Interesting to do a little more of what he does. He’s getting beat up, getting overly schemed. I hope he can stay here the rest of his career. So, obviously, it feels like he wants Tyler Herro to stay. And it almost feels like Tyler Herro is like the son of Pat Riley at times. I’ll be honest, I talked about not wanting to extend Tyler Herro because of the defensive issues and I just think he’s always going to be overly targeted on that end unless you have really really good defenders around him that aren’t just negatives on the offensive end as well. But Riley was asked about the extension too. Remember last week when Tyler Herro spoke to the media, he says, “You can either pay me now or pay me later.” Said Tyler Hero has not received word from Riley in the front office on what their plans are. They haven’t committed to anything. But like we continue to mention, the Heat view Hero is a long-term piece for better or worse. And I have been very open. I want to hold off on a Tyler Hero extension. I think one is coming, but I will not guarantee it to be this year. There’s a window in October where they can agree to that threeyear $149.7 million extension. If they wait till next off season, that grows to four years, $200 million. And if he were to make all NBA, it becomes 5 years 345. Now, I don’t think Tyler Her is going to make AllNBA next season. But it is interesting to see the Heat maybe hold off because if they do hold off, it’s hedging their bets a little bit. What if Tyler Herro aggresses? What if he struggles next season and doesn’t play as well as this year? Well, then you probably have a different thought process on extending Tyler Herro. So, if I’m Miami, I am waiting. I’m not doing that three-year $150 million deal this October, but we’ll ultimately see what happens. All right, number three. I think the Heat are going to pursue Kevin Durant. I do. I’m not gonna guarantee a trade, but it certainly feels like if the Heat do make a move that would be considered seismic, the only one that is actually going to happen is a Kevin Durant deal. Five years of sports network, Ethan Golding asked Riley if he would manage an aging player again, a loss similar to Jimmy Butler. Riley said that if it’s the right player and for the right contract, yes, he would. He says, “You know what that means?” I think everyone knows what that means. Mr. KD35, come on down. That is the player that most people are going to uh draw a conclusion from. And that’s the one that makes the most sense, right? There isn’t an aging star that’s going to be coming available on the trademark this off season. Better than Durant. Pat Riley has tried to acquire KD via trade free agency four times in the last decade. I think he’s going to try to make it five times this off season. and we’ll ultimately see if that comes to fruition. We’ll talk more about Katie here in just a second. But I do got to show love to the sponsor on today’s show. That is Prize Picks, the daily fantasy sports platform I play every single day. We’ve already made here on the channel about two or three videos this off season about a KD trade. And spoiler alert, the video that we’re putting out on Saturday is also going to be about Kevin Durant. But the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson tweeted out that he expects the Heat to go after KD this off seasonason. Mark Stein on Friday morning reported that the Heat will likely show interest in a Kevin Durant trade. Like you hear what Riley said, you hear the connections that have been made over the last 10 years. And you hear what Barry and Mark Steinus said. It’s obvious the Heat are going to pursue what Kevin Durant. Now, are they going to make it? There’s no guarantee. KD being 37 when the season begins and only one year left on his contract, he probably has a lot of leverage on to where he will want to go. Does he want to come to Miami with Hero and Bam? I don’t know. But I’ll make the statement right now. Do I want to acquire Kevin Durant? Yeah, I I’ll go yes because I think it’s the only way that he can be a competitive team that’s not a play-in squad the next two or three seasons. But I’m not mortgaging the future of this ball club. I’m just not doing it. Not trading more than two picks. And I could see the argument that trading two picks could be mortgaging mortgaging the future of this team. But if I’m the Heat, I am not going over the top sending in the god offer package for Katie. Not doing it. I will send you two. I’ll send you one of our future picks in 2030 or 2032 and I’ll send you the 20th pick in this draft at most alongside salary filler. Whether it’s Duncan and Andrew Wiggins, Rosier and Wiggins, either way you want to slice it. one of those two or two of those three guys, one or two first round picks and a young player, whether it’s Haime or Nicole Yoic, I’m willing to do that for KD. That’s as strong as an offer ever. I’m willing to go if they want more picks or a better young player like KL Wear out, not do it. And I kind of agree with this take that five reason sports network had as well. So, shout out to Ethan Skoleneck and the crew over there. They do a great job. Feels like Miami will go after KD. They will pursue Durant. If they do not acquire him, they quote unquote miss out. He goes to a different team like Minnesota or the Houston Rockets. It sounds like it’ll just be marginal changes. Like, and it sucks that maybe we have to deal with it’s either KD or marginal changes to the roster, but that kind of is where it feels like this is heading based off what Pat Riley said today about the roster committing to Hero and Bam. Like, I don’t think you’re going to see Miami trade out of Bio for picks. I don’t think you’re going to see Hero get dealt unless it’s for like a player like Giannis, but that doesn’t sound like something that’s even possible either. So, I’m changing my expectations. I am throwing Jaw and Trey Young out the window. Not happening. It’s either KD or maybe some marginal changes. But, let me know your thoughts. Do you want the Heat to trade for Mr. Sniper, Mr. Kevin Durant? Type Y for yes or type N for no. I’m open to it. I’m cool with it. But I’m also not going to be heartbroken if that trade doesn’t come to fruition because he is 37 years old and you’d have to pay him a massive extension. All right, the next takeaway and I know this one’s going to be a lot of people up in arms and a lot of people are going to ask about this. He’s not stepping down anytime soon. I jokingly said I hope he announces his retirement today. Uh if you wanted that Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s far from the truth. When speaking on his future, Pat Riley said that Mickey and Nick Harrison, the owners of the Heat, met and they’ve been very good to me. They said, “Carry on, Pat. I’m going to carry on and try to make this thing better. I just turned 80 and I’m proud of it. I feel great. I’m going to carry on and try to make this thing better.” So, it’s clear that he is going to try to get this team back to a finals contender. I expect three more seasons, which is the exact reason why I think a Kevin Durant trade could be the most likely scenario for Miami. Now, do the he go over the top? I don’t know. But if you line up timelines like I was doing with Jimmy Butler back before he was traded away, if Riley goes in, trades a couple players, a young guy, and picks for KD, Katie’s likely only on the team for three years this year in a contract extension. I think you could have Riley, Katie, or excuse me, KD, Bam, and Hero for the next three seasons. KD retires or move off of them after that. And that’s when Pat Riley retires. Pat Riley’s last Swan song is trying to get a title with Katie, Hero, and Bam and making moves around the roster. I could see that being the way Riley goes out, but we’ll see. Pat Riley says he feels great and he’s not planning on stepping down anytime soon. Last part I’ll talk about, not for long here, um, but he was very appreciative of Jimmy Butler. first question that was asked by Era Winterman. By the way, shout out to Era because he asked a couple hard-hitting questions today and he was right off the bat first question asking about Jimmy. So, salute to Era for doing what some people might not have. But Riley took the high road. He did. He talked about all of the moments he was fond of with Jimmy in the bubble, in the 2023 run, in the run that came up short in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Celtics in 2022. Um, he talked a lot about how it was unfortunate. He didn’t like how it went down, but it just happened. Two alphas got in the room and they disagreed. Um, so Riley took the high road. Give him credit, I guess, for not trying to talk about any longer. It’s just unfortunate to see how it unfolded. I continue to say that all year long. Continue to say it now. Not happy with how it went down because I do consider Jimmy Boler the third best player in Heat history just behind D. Wayade and LeBron. But that’s ultimately how it concluded and it stinks. But Riley took the high road today. All right, that’ll do it for today’s video. Appreciate everybody for tuning in. 1. Here's the move, Rolly: trade for KD on the cheap, and swap Tyler Herro for Trae Young. A KD, Bam, Trae core is good enough to contend for a title

  2. If we’re not trading Bam or Tyler, which it sounds like he doesn’t plan to, then it would actually be better to just run it back. Trade Wiggins for something you want more, but wait until Terry and Duncan come off the books to get aggressive. If they can be aggressive using only those contracts, go for it. I just don’t see anyone taking those contracts to start the season. Near the deadline, sure.

I just know this is all going to end up with KD being here, Jovic going to a shit team, and the Heat remaining in the play-in because they are pretty awful judges of talent.

  3. Next year should be all about Ware, Niko, & Herro. Then in 2026 you can see what offensive chemistry those 3 have and then make your moves from there.

  4. Miami just doesn’t have the pieces to go big game hunting. I don’t want to move Ware for KD but I could be talked into moving Jovic

  5. Durant for cheap yes. KD doesn't have the value that Phoenix wants, plus the fact his effect on winning isn't the same. JJ, 1st Duncan or Rosier and Wiggins makes sense

  6. I think Bam gone he dnt show up in the clutch in the playoffs I know pat see that clear now he not a superstar

  7. I hope tyler improves as much as possible if he does but not numbers that can shown he can be superstar we can trade him and he’ll value will be l better.

  8. I came away with the same impression…gonna try for KD, stick with Bam and Herro, etc.

All I really care about is that Jovic is here for at least 1 more year with a bigger role. I truly think he could be the future of this team if he’s handled correctly.

The only other thing I’ll say is that Bam better come into next season with a respectable handle. More than his defense, we need him to be the downhill player that he has no excuse not to be. You’re getting paid like an All NBA player, you better be able to drive to the rim and score/draw fouls. If he can do that, he will be worth his salt. Right now, with what he does, on his contract, he lowers our ceiling.

  9. Sudo run back with the addition of big name under performers. Ex. M fultz, Ben Simmons guys like that. One year contracts ofcourse. Then with clear cap in 27-28. Make your moves to compete

  10. I hope we don't get KD. Tired of temporary quick fixes. Get some younger players about to hit their primes.

  11. This will be like the 10th time we're getting KD. He must be so tired of being traded to the Heat year after year lol

  12. I think from what I gathered is that the heat is gonna surround bam and herro with good veteran players…I don't think they'll add to many high priced younger players

  13. Also what the heat should do is keep there options open because if they throw different packages for KD and it don't work other teams is gonna also deny them because they maybe offered the same packages for other players…

  14. Pat riley LOVES Tyler Herro, Tyler is money as long as he keeps doing what hes doing. Those marginal changes are exactly that, marginal, to cover up for Herros lack of D.

You people are out of your mind. KD as a heat player would be absolutely 🔥🔥….. you wouldnt be losing alot of those games last year.

Pat isnt going anywhere for a bit longer to come. Hes def going to try to win a chip in the next 3-4 years.

    We are screwed

  15. Did Riley say anything about the young players improving and raising the overall bar higher for this team? I love Nikola, Davion, Larsen and Kelel and hope we keep all 4; they are the future of the Heat. I would trade Bam and Tyler, who hog up the shots; trade because we could get a lot for them.

  16. Yeah get KD! It would be atrocious to watch the Heat again blowing leads or getting blown like the last game with the Cavs. KD will improve the Heat a lot. Maybe some minutes management will be implemented to preserve him for the playoffs. On the regular season, more like KD will be utilized as a closer.

Wonder though what’s the LATERAL change Pat means. Like Trade JJJ for Podz? 😅
