Jayson Tatum’s injury hangs ‘a dark cloud’ over Knicks’ Game 4 win vs. Celtics | NBA Countdown

The New York Knicks, they’re one win away from being back in the conference finals for the first time since 2000. They get it behind 39 points from Jaylen Brunson. But of course, the unfortunate story of this game is Jason Tatum on this play right here. He goes down with a appears to be a non-cont injury and just absolutely collapses in an extreme amount of pain there. When he leaves the floor, he’s not able to put any weight on it. You could see here just in absolute anguish in a game that he tied Larry Bird and John Havichle for the most 40-point games in a postseason in Celtics franchise history. This is the way that he leaves the floor. Just gutting to see here, Brian, um both as a basketball fan and just for Jason Tatum, you your heart goes out to him. Yeah, this is a seminal night in the NBA. A lot of fortunes changed hands tonight and um the Knicks were brilliant in this second half especially. They got contributions up and down their lineup. They got the game to clutch time, which is their mission. Male Bridges was amazing. Jaylen Brunson carried them home, but the pit in the stomach is what we have in the defending champ and Jason Tatum because Tatum was having an elite game. He was having a big fourth quarter. This was going to be potentially an iconic finish. And now the whole thing just feels deflating because, you know, I’m sure Seventh Avenue right now in New York, I’m sure it’s wild outside the Garden. I’m sure the fans are embracing this moment and it is a moment to be embraced by the Knicks and their fans, but um there’s a dark cloud hanging over this and that’s what you can’t get away from right now. Jason Tatum finished with 42 points in this game and as we just heard from Jaylen Brunson, there is still at least one more game left to be played in this series. The Knicks are hoping to close this out. If in fact the Boston Celtics have to do it without Jason Tatum, who are you looking toward? Well, they have the talent. You know, they’re one of the most deepest teams in the in the in the top of the of the talent pool. Um Jaylen Brown did not have a good game tonight. He had foul trouble, was benched down the stretch because of it. Jaylen Brown has not had a good series by his standards. The door would be open for him to really come back and and try to rescue the team. The concern that you have obviously is whether this is a potentially a long-term thing for Tatum. And so you you’re you’re thinking about that as much as you are thinking about this series. So um the Celtics have proven that they can overcome odds. They’ve come back from situations before. The Knicks obviously respect that. Uh, but this is also a golden opportunity because Malikica, Indiana is up 3-1 in that series. That means that the Knicks, who in my view had the hardest draw of all teams in the playoffs, potentially are one win away with a with a Pacers win as well from having home court in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Malika Andrews and Brian Windhorst react to the New York Knicks’ Game 4 win over the Boston Celtics that included Jayson Tatum leaving due to a non-contact injury in the fourth quarter.

  1. im so sorry but i cheered when tatum went down it was the savage sports fan in me but i really hope he ok

  2. Tatum career is over. Celtic so called dynasty 😍😮won’t be made. Branson father hard work has paid off 😅

  3. Knicks were winning this regardless. Series was 2-1 Knicks anyway. Celtics all they do is jacking up 3 point bricks every game ,that's why they losing. Speedy recovery for Tatum

  4. Guess who’s holding T-wolves championship tickets, Indy EC winner tickets and NY EC/EC winner tickets! Muwah! Now if Indy can just figure a way to beat NY. . . .but we know “the book” don’t roll like that, don’t we. OKC winning it all.

  5. ACHILLES aint painful like dat . Jt rolling on d floor in pain like dat mighe be something else . Yall be positive . We saw kobe achilles, we saw KD , we saw lillard none of them was rolling like dat .

  6. It sucks big time, but are you guys gonna cry? If you were watching the game, the Knicks had it. Windy youre just making stuff up. "Dark cloud". Lmao. Its a basketball game dude.

  7. Prayers up for Tatum, but let's not take this win away from the Knicks. They were up by like 9 with 3 min left in 4Q before Tatum got injured.

  8. Of course Windhorst is going to pretend the Celtics weren't losing by 9 with 3 minutes left when Tatum got injured.

  9. F you mean „Dark cloud”? Nobody cared when whole Knicks roster got injured last year against the Pacers. Prayers up for JT but his injury doesn’t leave any „dark cloud” on Knicks win

  10. Why all the tatum love now Keep that same energy before the injury. Nobody was a tatum fan before.

  11. It's ironic…

I'm not embracing an injury but he scores 40 points and gets injured one night then score less than 20 and doesn't get hurt another night?

  12. Everyone was debating if the new owners would breakup the team. They have no choice but to keep all or nearly all the pieces together through next year.

Tatum isnt going to be back until the end of next season and likely not at all if the team doesnt have a chance to make a run.

This is the biggest issue with taking a ton of 3s. When the shots stop falling, your mind says keep shooting. Celtics could have buried the Knicks 3 different times but kept trying to shoot 3s even when they were up big.

  13. Injures are a part of every sport. Stop talking about it as a Damar Hamlin played happened and we're fearing for Tatum's life. He'll put in the work and recover from whatever the injury is. Focus on the play on the court.
