So….What’s Going to Happen with Nikola Vucevic?
all right so aside from the most obvious question surrounding the Bulls and what they’ll do this off season that being the impending free agency and contract of Josh Giddy and whether or not they will look to trade Kobe White but that’s the future of Nicolvich a player who clearly doesn’t fit the long-term plan and timeline of this team a player you would have thought would have been one of the first to go between Caruso Demar and Zack Lavine but still remains with this team despite the clear shift in direction since the Bulls traded for him back in 2021 a player the Bulls gave up a lot to get in the form of two first round picks which ended up being two lottery picks a player that while skilled and still is one of the better bigs in the NBA is also flawed in a number of ways that just really hasn’t fit well in with the Bulls and also at times just hasn’t been utilized in the best ways that appeal to his strengths but either way I think most of us Bulls fans are watching closely as to what the Bulls are going to do with Vuch as he enters the final year of his three-year contract whether that means the Bulls trade him this off season or during the season prior to the trade deadline or maybe they even have him play out the final year of his contract and just let him walk in free agency well in this video we’re going to explore some of the possibilities of what the Bulls might do with Vuvich including some of the recent reports about what the Bulls are looking for in return in the form of a trade heading into the draft so what’s going on everyone you’re listening to Bulls Central here hope you’re all doing well now I think most would agree even for those that don’t like Buchvich or have hated on the man ever since coming to Chicago that this past season was arguably his best season in a Bulls uniform i mean aside from that half season he played after being traded to the team he averaged the most points of his career in Chicago on the highest shooting splits of his career not just with the Bulls but of his career where he shot 53% from the field and 40% from three this being a stark contrast from last season where he shot just 29% from deep and 48% from the field and he still managed to finish in double figures in rebounds at just a little over 10 rebounds per game and then of course probably one of Ucha’s best attributes has been his durability and always being able to play which is something hard to come by this day and age in the league and because Vuch was having a great season I was shocked to see the Bulls weren’t able to find a trade for him prior to the deadline and taking advantage of him having a better thanex expected season and also just based on how willing and desperate some teams were heading into the deadline looking for a big man to help them for a strong playoff push to close out the year now maybe the offers just were garbage and perhaps the interest simply was not there but regardless Vuvich remained with the Bulls for the rest of the season and actually still continue with his strong play to close out the year and so while I don’t think Vucha’s value is that high and probably isn’t as high as maybe it would have been at the trade deadline but a starting caliber center that just finished off the season at 18-10 on 534080 shooting splits and on an expiring contract at $20 million you’d have to think that there is going to be some level of interest in a contending team wanting to bring in Vuchvich even if it is on a one-year rental now I mentioned some recent reports about the Bulls gauging interest in Vu on the trade market leading up to the draft now this was first reported by Evan Cidery who I don’t even always consider to be that credible based on some reporting that he’s gotten wildly wrong in the past but either way he called out that the Bulls are angling for additional draft capital where they would dangle Vu in a trade to try and get back in the end of the first round of this year’s draft in other words the Bulls are wanting to walk away with this draft with two first round picks meaning their own at number 12 and a late firstrounder the thing I find funny in this tweet is where he mentions if a team were to offer a late first round pick Vevich prior to the 2025 draft the Bulls would be very open to the idea like “Yeah no kidding the Bulls would chomp at the bit if they were able to get a first round pick for an aging Veuvich who is going to be 35 to start next season they would take that pick and run with it.” To me though what I find concerning is are the Bulls expecting a firstround pick in a trade for Vuvich and are they going to yet again overvalue their players on the trade market and refuse to trade them for anything less and of course wait until it’s too late to the point where they’ve missed their opportunity and either have to trade said player for peanuts or even get negative value in return by taking on bad contracts to get off their deal because let’s be real the Bulls aren’t getting a first round pick at this stage in Bucheric’s career i don’t care how great he was this past season i don’t care that he’s going into an expiring contract which has its appeals for a team that maybe doesn’t want to commit long-term money on their books he’s not worth a first round pick the only way you’re getting a first round pick for Vuch is if you’re taking on a bad contract or two and a team is willing to throw you a bone in the form of draft capital for taking on one of their negative assets but that in of itself is a risk if it means taking on a contract beyond next season the way I look at it for the Bulls if you’re able to get a second round pick maybe two and an expiring contract that matches salary you take that and run and head forward with the youth movement like one of the biggest gripes I have with this front office as well as some Bulls fans is how unrealistic they are in assessing their players value like we’re all biased in some way when it comes to our team even I myself fall victim to that but if we’re going to sit here and say that we expect a first round pick for Bhvich even if it’s a late first round pick in this upcoming draft I’m sorry but that’s just not living in reality and unfortunately it’s probably what the front office is going to hold out for in return for Vuvich until it’s too late and they have to settle for significantly less get some second round draft capital and expiring deal and call it a day now that’s the other thing that people have to remember i mean the Bulls can’t simply trade Buchvich for draft picks they have to take on take in salary to the $2 to $20 million or around there to make the trade legal the good thing is $20 million is a very tradable salary in today’s NBA that could work with a lot of different players especially if you aggregate contracts in a deal but in my view you really should only be looking to take on expiring contracts so that it enables you to still have all that cap space and flexibility in 2026 otherwise if it’s a matter of taking on longerterm money and you’re not seeing benefits of taking on said money by receiving additional draft capital then it honestly might even make sense to just let Vu play out the final year of his contract and let him walk in free agency because while you never want to let a player leave in free agency for nothing in return it’s not necessarily a bad thing if your only other alternative is taking on a less than desirable contract just to move Vuch freeing up space on your books is better than moving a guy just to move him because he doesn’t fit your timeline anymore and you’re willing to take on dead money in return now in my view I think it would behoove the Bulls to move Vuvich this summer or let him walk in free agency in 2026 because if you keep him and try to move him towards the deadline you try to raise his value to contending teams to see some of his play throughout this season I think it’s more likely than not that we see Buchvich regress back to the mean to what we saw in some of his prior season and now you just tanked his value when you could have otherwise capitalized on him coming off a better thanex expected season and any potential teams trading for him would have been able to utilize his services for the full season rather than a 3-month rental and the last thing the Bulls should do is trade Vuchic when his value is low if it means taking on added money in exchange when you could just free up that money going into 2026 to me there will be interest from a handful of contending teams who are going to look to upgrade at the center position who are looking for veteran players who can contribute and helping them try to win a title teams like the Warriors and the Lakers are their primary franchises that come to mind who have been in need of a true starting center and have the contracts to make the money work or a team like the Suns if they decide they’re still trying to win which will likely be the case since they don’t have future assets to do anything but still try and compete now what about the Bucks if they move on from Brook Lopez would the Cavs try and bring in a more floor spacing big hell even the Boston Celtics if they look to pivot away from Porzingis to find a more durable big to me the interest will be there the opportunity will be there for the Bulls to actually move Vuvich for some positive value they just need to be honest with themselves in terms of what’s a realistic return for Vuj and be okay with some second round draft capital for a 35-year-old player but I would love to hear what you guys think though you let me know in the comments what do you think V’s value is on the trade market of course as always be sure to subscribe and I will see you in the next

First
going to be an interesting off season forsure
Vooch is ready to stay at Chicago . These are breaking news 🚨
1st round pick? Yeah sure in another
Vooch needs to leave chicago! He is too lazy on the defensive side of the ball.
I’d say do a sign and trade with the Warriors for Kuminga, send out Vooch and maybe add a second round pick to sweeten the deal
We need a young power forward/. Small forward with size and long term potential
And I think Kuminga wants a fresh start too
I think this trade would benefit both sides
Two first round picks and kumminga for Coby and Nikola
We need longer vids broooo
My plan for Bulls offseason (which is in line with AK’s mindset of valuing young players with experience): Sign and trade Vuc and 2rp for Kuminga. Trade Coby to Twolves for the 17th pick and mike conley (let him walk)/ to the Magic for the 16th pick and Cole Anthony. Trade Lonzo to the Rockets for Cam Whitmore/ OKC for draft capital. Draft a replacement center and replacement SG in the draft. Youth movement unlocked, plenty of young players with experience
Porzingis and the 28th pick for Vuc would be the framework of the trade. Bulls get a late 1st and an expiring contract which you can potentially flip at the deadline. Celtics look to shed their cap sheet
He's a 17 and 10 player on an expiring contact, but looking at other trades for centers this year the bulls will most likely only get a couple seconds for him. A late first is possible but will probably require something in addition.
2nd rounder this year, pick swap in future (top 5 protected) , and an expiring contract.
Trading vuc for a 2nd is a dumb move. He plays with good ball movement and helps the young guys get easy looks.
Either get a first, or look for a first at the deadline. No long-term contracts, let the contract die at that point.
Trade:
GSW gets Vooch and Nets 19th pick
Nets get Kuminga
Bulls get Nets 27th pick
Vuc is worth more than a second round pick. You said yourself that teams like the Warriors and Lakers are looking for a "True Starting Center" so, if I'm AK why would I trade Vuc for a 2nd rounder, when they barely crack the rotation? Vuc is one of the rare cases where the Bulls just might get a late 1st out of a team, along with a expiring contract 💯
With the bulls you will never know…. But we need an aggressive rebounder and low post defender ..
Vooch is underrated in my opion he can hoop but bulls dont utilize him correct no he isnt the most athletic player or defender but he can hoop
It's time.. Too much money held hostage for his now role player type play… Would almost call him a defensive liability
I hope Vooch stays. That would be the wise thing for the Bulls to do.
I saw on Beale Street Bears today that Zach Edney will be out when the season starts due to ankle surgery. They are looking for a center.
I completely agree. Bulls can't take on long term contracts for Vooch even if it comes with a (very late) 1st rd pick unless they get a young player they actually like. Most likely they'll just get a 2nd rd pick and an expiring contract or he stays.
Vooch is the worst defender in the NBA. If the Bulls want to get rid of him they need to include their #11 pick in package trade
