dramatically bill Walton scored 20 points portland won its first 129 107 and on Tuesday night it was more of the same walton magnificent again before he got into foul trouble he’s averaging 16 rebounds a game maurice Lucas scored 24 points 1309 98 we’re even going into tonight’s action the NBA World Championship Series tonight the thing that helped the Sixers in the first two games here the pass julius picking up his first foul as you look at Bill Walton probably without question he and Alvin Adams are the finest passing starters in the game today i would say Dave Collins are very now he is roaming free as he did in game four and he’s one of the most awesome forces in the middle so let’s keep an eye on that now it is 8-7 Blazers ahead of the 76ers by a point gross came off Walton rolling again and there it is twice he has rolled off picks on offense and as Rick Barry has pointed out so intelligent [Music] back in the middle here’s McInness misses outside and Lucas outlet to midcourt lucas and Walton will hit you right there with that outlet pass walton goes inside to Davis this time lasers regain it lucas gets the open shot gross battling underneath stayed with it on the hustle there’s Bobby Gross who as I once again mentioned is doing an excellent job on offense for Portland and that’s very difficult assignment he has of course guarding Julius Irving the Blazers have jumped to a five-point lead in Philadelphia and game six is back in Portland on Sunday bivby penetrates and Walton is there an incredible force here early on defense collins off to the right davis pull up jump shot on Collins and McInness cleans up how long will Su go with McInness here in game five jones up and Walton was there again on defense i have never seen a man start any better on defense than Walton is in this game [Music] holland looks top of the circle swing right gross goes to the baseline irving cuts him off now Walton will take the outside shot underneath and Gross fouled him that’s two fouls on Bobby Gross he has gotten himself into foul difficulty in this series but I have to agree with you 100% bill Walton is really doing some job on defense here’s in the last 20 years the championship series has been won by the team with the leading score only four times so balanced scoring is what you search for gross up over Jones and that’s exactly what Portland has as Gross scores his sixth point of this basketball game portland has all five starters averaging in double figures philadelphia only Irving and Collins 14-9 on the steel gross is back shoot the free throw i believe that Jean Shu brought in Daryl Dawkins for one good reason as you pointed out Bill’s been dropping in the middle walton that is and he believes that Daryl’s a much better outside shooter than Cowwell Jones and hopefully get Daryl to pop in a few jumpers and force Bill Walton out to open that middle up as you talked about [Music] that’s the man who is in to do it makes a good move going to his left three Portland players back there bby going to the hoop picking up the foul but it was the defense as Sunny Hill pointed out that keyed that break it was a good play by Collins to knock the ball away rick I think this is the game we have finally been waiting for in this series portland is not psyched out tonight about playing in Philadelphia they’ve been a little more patient than they were the first two games and everyone knows what the 76ers are capable of it’s 3427450 i can feel it gross doctor was there jones interception here’s McInness gillian goes mcinness with the muscle came up and a two shot foul again and they’re in the bonus so it’ll be three for two for McInness three fouls on Gileiam now picked up quickly now will George be able to magnificence of one Mr dr j Julius Irving that is getting them there by goes but Hollands Holland wants it foul underneath loose ball foul it’s on Lloyd Neil who is coming up on Cwell Jones 15 foul against Portland so they’ll come down and shoot that’s the first against Neil but five on the team side take a look at the play here as Holland makes a good fake to get wide open takes the jumper fourth foul may hurt Portland at this juncture Brent because Philadelphia is making a comeback with Bill Walton out of the game so Philadelphia can get their momentum back get their confidence back in their game so it could backfire on Jack Ramsey crowd urging McInness on made one of two here come the Blazers 76ers await them gross left alone left side irving off in the middle goes to McInness left side neil with McInness keeping the 76ers at the perimeter without Walton mcinness finally comes up on Neil fouled in the process and Georgia will come to the line for another ovation as Jean Shu and his nap lucas off to Davis the starters are back on the floor for Jack Ramsey as they are for Jean Shu that jump hook mcginness rebounding that’s what he has to do if he’s not going to score irving Walton is there irving tosses up and Lucas at the other side off to Hollands two on two three on three gross with the short jump shot so Bobby Gross who got them off to a good start comes in and hit a big basket for Portland as they get the lead back up to five points that’s 10 points for Gross Rick with 227 left in the first half a report on the Kemper Open lob for the doctor from Collins swung it left-handed stayed with it a three-point lead by the Blazers davis pushes to Lucas lucas comes up on McInness you can see the height advantage that he has against George you wouldn’t realize that when you talk about the two when the game gets close Maurice Lucas usually does some big things for Portland mcinness has turned it over here comes Davis back to Lucas crashed in on Cwell Jones who fouled him two fouls on Jones just as you pointed out lucas will come up with a very big tough play too yeah he certainly has been the man for Portland in those situations especially in game three when the game was close and still in question it was Maurice Lucas who got them the lead that they needed and then he got them off to a great start in game four and he here’s what he had to say about being involved in a tight situation in the game a pressure situation basically in the pressure situations I like to have the ball um basically closest possible to the basket uh whereas I can take my man and probably turn around and just shoot um right over him or right in his face or whatever portland traded Jeff Petri and Steve Haw to Atlanta for the choice in the ABA dispersal draft which brought them Maurice Lucas he was the second choice of that draft and outside of the coin flip which was won by Portland when they flipped for Bill Walton that was probably the most important day in the history of
