Did the Knicks Find a Hidden Gem in Summer League?
What’s up, Knicks fans? I know summer league scores don’t always tell the full story. They really don’t. The Knicks, they didn’t farewell in their first game in Vegas, falling to the Pistons on Friday night, 104 to 86. And the Knicks not good in this one. They shot a combined 40% from the field, 22% on trace, and he turned the ball over 16 times in 40 minutes. Yikes. But if you watch the Knicks opener against the Pistons closely, one name should have shown you a bit of something. That’s Pome Dier. Yeah, the Knicks lost by 18, but Dier looked like a guy who has improved some things in his game. The 20-year-old wing led New York with 17 points on eight of 13 shooting. Now, some of this came when the game was out of reach, but he got it done. Attacking closeouts, finishing strong around the rim and cutting at the right time. He even had a block on a much bigger forward, showing that defensive upside that Knicks scouts have been talking about since they drafted him last year. So, what should Knicks fans be watching for the rest of the summer league with Dier? Well, number one, spot-up shooting. He went one for three from deep against Detroit. If he can become a consistent catch and shoot threat, it opens up everything else in his game. Secondly, defensive versatility. Dier has already shown that he can guard multiple positions. So, let’s see if he can stay disciplined and switch effectively on the perimeter. And then number three, I’d say decision-making. Can Dier make the right read out of a closeout? kick to the corner, slide into a passing lane. This is where you can show Mike Brown that he’s not just a developing second-year player. He’s a trustworthy rotation piece. And look, I get it. He’s young. But the Knicks didn’t draft Daddy without believing that he can develop into a player. They believe that he can contribute sooner rather than later. In a Mike Brown system that values energy, length, and 2-way discipline, Mcome Dier checks a lot of those boxes. He may not crack the rotation immediately, but if he keeps stacking performances like this, he’s going to make that decision harder and harder come training camp. So stay locked in, Nick Knicks fans. It’s early in the summer. There’s a lot more basketball to come, but Pakome Dier might just be the sneaky summer story that turns into a regular season reality.
Although the Knicks didn’t fare well in their first game in Vegas, Dexter Henry gives insight to why Pacôme Dadiet may be the sneaky summer story that turns into a regular season reality.

I watched the game and respectfully disagree. In the first half Dadiet seemed passive and lost. Granted, the second half he was much better in summer league garbage time. So I think we need to see more of him. However, he’s just 19 which is a plus and he can develop but he has to be more aggressive. Dink Pate shot poorly, but he did other things like rebound, made a few assist and was very active and he’s athletic made his free throws. He is also 19 and an athlete. Kolek, looked lost and overmatched. McCullar didn’t look good, Hukporti will make the roster. Beauchamp seemed comfortable out there even though he missed some shots.
Dadiet could've been further along if thibs would have played him last season. One of the things that I didn't like about thibs was not p laying the young.
Luka Scukka. Nuff said
He's gonna get minutes this year….he has to….gives Mikail some rest!
Daddy'o looks light-footed 🎉 let him run all day
Pacome dadiet was pretty good if he gets a proper opportunity with the big squad playing with better players I think he can flourish he's not gonna be a number I option playing with jb or kat but he can be a complimentary piece and that's all we need
He,s been good but Thibs didn’t give him a chance.
