Terrence Shannon Jr. Will Become A MONSTER…

Terrence Shannon Jr. Will Become A MONSTER…

Terrence Shannon Jr. is ready to break out if he gets a chance next season. It’s that plain and simple. He’s so quick getting downhill. Combine that with his leaping ability, but also he’s a unit. Listed at 6’6, 215 lbs. Are you kidding me? He has that NBA ready body. He can not only absorb contact, but also enforce contact. Leave a like on the video right now and let me know your thoughts below. So, do you believe he can break out into the rotation next season? The impressive thing about yesterday’s performance is we saw a lot of three-point versatility from him. He definitely has potential as a high volume three-point shooter for sure. It was impressive to me that he shot 35% last season despite getting very inconsistent minutes and he only shot 31-pointers. Very small sample size. You see a guy like Reed Shepard who’s known for shooting get the same sample size, the same inconsistent minutes and he ended up shooting 33.8%. That’s not a shot at him. I’m just saying with the way both of them were managed, it’s very hard to be consistent from deep. So, it’s a good sign that he was somewhat consistent and considering what we saw last night, I have a belief, a good one, in his three-point shooting moving forward. Also, it’s fair to mention his last season in college, he shot 6.7 three-pointers attempted per game, 36% from three. And just seeing his improvement throughout his college career started out as low volume, very inefficient, and just kept going up and up and up in terms of volume and pretty much efficiency. There was a year that he dropped down significantly from 38% to 32%, but also he increased the volume. And as you have seen in the highlights, most of these shots are from the corner and he actually shot 38% from the corner last season. Let’s take a look at last night first made three-pointer. You see his defender heavily respecting his driving ability. More worried about that than him taking a shot off the dribble. It’s good to see him recognize that and have the confidence to fire away. That’s what the summer league is for. And also, that’s a spot on the court he struggled last season above the break three-pointers 30%. Also, he only took two pullup jumpers from three and one step back from three. He was strictly a catch andoot player, so seeing any off the dribble threes is exciting. But also, you saw in the NBA highlights, teams were not respecting him as a threat, just basically daring him to shoot. On this one, the defender is pretty close to him. He easily could use this as an opportunity to pass up a three-pointer. Instead, he immediately catches and fires away with confidence. His quick release really stands out and I think that’s key for him because he has a pretty low release point. Only a 6’8 wingspan which ranked in the bottom half of the prospects in the 2024 NBA scouting combine. So being quick with the shot off the catch is going to be key for him moving forward because eventually he’s going to be drawing closeouts if his efficiency and volume spikes. On this one he received an offline pass. It doesn’t ruin the possession though. He just crosses over quickly and goes right into an off the dribble three. It’s just good to see that he was able to hit shots from the top of the key, the wing, the corner in different ways, not just catch and shoot. And also not in the situation where teams are just like, “Okay, I dare you to shoot the three. We don’t care.” But man oh man, can you imagine if he was consistently drawing closeouts with his drive game, with his ability to get above the rim? I mean, it would just open up a whole another level to his game. I’ve also been highly impressed with his passing ability. First summer league game he had nine assists and then yesterday he had some nice passing highlights as well. I think that’s key for him because he’s mostly going to be known as a scorer, but if he’s able to create shots for others, he can be much more than that. I really enjoy this possession. Just really feels like a team friendly atmosphere. He doesn’t force the drive, just makes a simple pass. Clark makes a very quick decision and a very quick pass back. Shannon does the same exact thing. And just like that, a buck booty naked open corner three is created. He misses, but guess what? The rebound goes out to Shannon. Easily could have just drove and rose above the rim protectors and finished, but he trusts his teammate again and gave him another opportunity. Very unselfish play from Shannon. He’s also a grabandgo option if he gets a rebound. And my goodness, the burst of speed downhill, it’s just so tough to guard. He draws a crowd because everyone’s scared of him at the rim. instead of forcing the issue, he makes the correct pass. And despite not getting much run, you even saw flashes of his passing ability during his rookie season. Something is there. And I feel like it’s pretty rare for a guy of his play style to be a willing and consistent passer. So hopefully he continues to grow in this area because in college during his senior year, he averaged two assists, but also averaged two turnovers. The hope is he averages more assists than turnovers once he starts to get big minutes. But also, it’s key for him to mix it up and not just force drives if he’s drawing a crowd. So far in summer league, he’s done a great job mixing it up. That’s all I got, though. Do you believe he’s going to have a breakout season next year? Let me know your thoughts below. If you got time, check out my other videos. Most importantly, have yourself a great day and peace out.

  1. With NAW leaving, they should give more minutes to Terrence Shannon to allow more scoring chances for as a whole, I expect to be the 7th best player in the T-Wolves next season

  2. He's definitely rotation ready, bro is a superstar….if he becomes a starter, I bet you he'll be a all star in 1 or 2 years cause of his highlights

  3. Timberwolves Summer League things to be very Excited about: Shannon Jr, Joan Berenger, and Jaylen Clark. All of them have great impact on the games so far even if its not showing up in the box score the wolves have a lot be excited about there. Jury still out on: Dillingham and Rocco. Both of these guys have flashes of the promise, enough to get you excited but they each routinely demonstrate some weaknesses that give you pause(also both are 19 or younger still so we got a little time here!). With Rocco its the slow footedness, the motor, and he seems to be more effected by physicality than Berenger, but all of those things he can fix with just better training, like the nice thing is those are not skills he needs to develop, and he shows pretty good skills, so its hard not to be really excited to see him dominate with the Iowa Wolves and get some minutes next year. Dillingham is tough because he seems to be a moth in a jar sometimes with the ball. He is amazing at just scoring, and I would trust him over almost any Timberwolf right now to get the ball across halfcourt if they were applying full court ball pressure, but then once he gets it across halfcourt he can get swallowed up by physical lengthy defenders, he has to be a lot quicker with the decisions and the only thing he does quick right now is shoot. Still excited to see him, and hopeful he realizes his full potential.

Then we have the people I think I have seen enough of. Leonard Miller. Having seen and rooted for Minott and Garza to turn the corner and become meaningful rotation guys, I also agree with the Wolves that they never did, and dont hate that the Wolves let them go, and I think I have even less optimism for Miller. He absolutely trashes the G league, but summer league and his minutes in the NBA, I am just not seein it. We got Juan and Rocco, I think I am fine with seeing if Leonard Miller can make something happen at Golden State or something.

The rest of the guys I have not seen enough of but they all strike me as G league guys so far mostly.
