Picking Over/Unders For EVERY NBA Team This Season | DLLS Mavs Podcast

[Music] Hip hop. [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh, I guess we’re just on now. Let’s go. Let’s go. It’s time to party. Welcome to the DLS podcast. Not well, the DLS Mavs podcast. I was so excited to get the name of the show right because Tim Ko has just butchered it the last couple days, but I The name of the what? Absolutely choked. The name of the show. It was okay. Tanner, hit that reset button, buddy. It’s time to restart. Uh, no, I’m Bobby. That’s Tim. Uh, Tanner, our producer, is offscreen. He came down with a uh with with a little cold and so we were all sheltering in place hoping that he didn’t pass on those bugs to all of us on the weekend no less. Tim, how are you doing? I’m doing well. I mean Tanner is still powering through. They’re they’re saying he’s the bravest man alive. They are to to produce this show where we talk about overs and unders and sideways sideways. Do you have the sideways odds? Uh, you actually they don’t allow you to do that. Um, that would kind of be, you know, the point I don’t want to spoil it for you guys, but the point of Vegas is for Vegas to win. If they just let you pick a tie, uh, they wouldn’t win that much. That’s true. So, that’s what we’re doing today. Uh, we are going to go through all 30 NBA teams. Now, we’re going to use the lines from our uh, our friend friend of the show, Jeff Sherman. He is Golf Odds uh on Twitter. He of course is with the Superbook at the Westgate uh hotel out in Las Vegas. He’s their VP of risk. Um mainly a golf guy, but also a big NBA guy. And so we’re going to be going team by team over the next hour or so, hanging out with you guys, getting you ready for the weekend. Obviously, these things could change uh as you see these lines or these uh these overunders were set on July 12th. That was actually while we were out there in Vegas. I’m sure that a couple trades have shifted these by like a win or two, but for posterity, okay, LeBron isn’t a Mav yet. Giannis isn’t a Miami Heat yet. Uh, we’re going to go with that moment that that moment that is forever frozen in time, and we’re going to pick based off of that. Tim, is there any more intro that we got to do, or can we just dive right into the hot topics? I I don’t think so. I feel bad ending on Washington. Washington and Utah. I almost want to go reverse alphabetical. Do you want so we don’t have to end the show on those two those two very sad teams. I think you might be on to something too because that would mean the Mavs probably go either at the tail end of the third or at the beginning of the fourth. And audience retention is a really important metric. I think you might be on to something, Tim. Then let’s do it like that. All right. Well, let’s start. The Washington Wizards 21 and a half wins. Are you going over or under for the Zards? Oh man. Um, probably under. I mean, they have they have Chris Middleton now provides some base level competency. Brogden uh they kept they keep uh kept Brock Brogden uh as of today I believe he’s on the team. Yeah. So, they they’ve got a couple vets. It’s not it’s not a a sheer pure outright, you know, it’s not as um as obvious overtanking as say the next team we’re going to talk about. But, I don’t know. It It’s the East is just so bad though, and you’re going to get some wins. I do think uh do you think uh yeah, I’m I’m going to I’m going to I’m going to go I’m going to go under, but like by a game they’ll they’ll get 20. Okay. Yeah, last season they won 18. I think they probably have more talent this season than last season, but really weird things happen if like 12 of your guys are all 22 and under. You know, they’re all trying to get theirs. They’re all trying to figure out who they are in the league, not necessarily who they are on your team. So, I think that they might they might have more wins this season against teams over 500 than they had last season, but I still think I’m I’m with you, Tim. I’m taking the under. Um Jeff actually said this whenever he joined us uh on our show while we were out there at the Westgate. He said that generally people like picking overs. Um which I understand because it’s like more fun. You know, it’s not it’s it’s no fun to be a negative Nancy. All right. Uh let us be the negative guys. You all need to be positive. But but I will take the under. Another team I think one one thing I’ll say about Washington. Um talk about Cooper Flag. He should be the rookie of the year favorite. Uh you know I think you have to bet more to you know he’s got like negative odds to to win it. He’s the overwhelming favorite. I think Trey Johnson is the person I most see with the case to upset him because I think the case that Trey Johnson scores like eight 17 or 18 and if Cooper has a lower floor and it’s like 125 and five we’re going to be having the classic debate where it’s well he affected Cooper affected winning more uh Trey Johnson scored more. I could see that debate happening and I could see Trey Johnson with a chance. Um, that’s really honestly the only player, the only rookie that I see with a, you know, real chance to to to maybe uh topple Cooper’s uh likely rookie of the year candidacy. I completely disagree with you, but it’s good to disagree. It’s good. It’s a healthy disagreement. I don’t think anything uh less of you as a person, man. Thank you. I just think you’re horribly wrong. Okay. And you should I think Trey Johnson can shoot it, man. Uh, Utah Jazz 18 and a half wins. Last season they somehow managed to win 17. Over or under? Uh, I’m going to go under. What would it need to be to where you would take the over? Uh, 14 and a half. 14 and a half. That’s That’s when we start talking. Yeah. If it was 14 and a half, I would lay off. If it was 13 and a half, I might take the over. But it’s Yeah. Even 14 and a half, I’m like, “Yeah, they’re going to win 14 games next year. That’s still an under.” Yeah, 13 and a half. It like it I think that’s how bad it would have to be. Yeah, they stink. All right, the Toronto Raptors 36 and a half. That’s a tough one, Tim. Last season, the Raptors won 30 games. Um 36 and a half feels kind of high to me. 36 is is quite a few for uh a team that is built around Brandon Ingram who has just not consistently been available. And if you tell me he’s going to play 60 65 games, um I see them starting to get into the mid30s. Uh but even then mid30s can still hit the under. And I’m just not convinced of their health. I’m going to go under. I’m going to go under, too. kind of the same thing we said about the Wizards. Like the East is pretty bad. You could, you know, just kind of like walk your way into stumble your way into 15 or 18 wins, but I don’t know how many games they win against the West this year unless they’re hosting a lot of teams on second nights of backto-backs or something. Um, Spurs, San Antonio Spurs, 44 and a half last season. You kind of have to almost throw it out. Uh, Wimby missed a ton of time obviously. They made a big trade mid-season. Obviously get the number two pick in the draft, get Dylan Harper in there. They won 34 games last year. Do you think they will go over or under 44 and a half? Oo, I’m I’m I don’t want to say under again. It’ be four in a row. I think they can have a great season and take a leap and still hit the under. I think 43 44 wins is I I think that’s kind of the next step for them. And so I am very tentatively going to say the say the under. Um, I don’t think it’s going to be by much. I do think that this is an above 500 team. I just don’t know if they’re that far above 500 at this point with, you know, Harrison Barnes as your starting three or four. I think I’m with you. I guess the only their their brightest timeline. All right. to follow the theme from the other day. I think their brightest timeline is Wimby is healthy and incredible, Fox is amazing, and Dylan Harper like is the rookie of the year and not Cooper Flag. Even then, I’m not sure they get to 45 wins. I’m taking the under, but I’m doing it really tentatively. Um, oh, this is actually a really tough one. This next one, the Sacramento Kings. We got we got to get through a few more before our first break. The Sacramento Kings, Tim 35 and last year. I’m under before you even say 40 and 42. You what? Yeah. I’m just I’m I’m instant under. I just don’t You’re mashing the under. Yeah. It didn’t matter what you said. I was going to go under. 25 and a half. I’m I’m a Kings hater. Oh, wow. Okay. 35 and a half in the West this upcoming season probably gets you like maybe 13th place. Yeah, it’s it’s like Yeah, it’s a team. It’s I don’t know. I just It’s It’s a collection of talent. They won what? 48 last season. Uh no, they won 40. Oh, right, right, right. But it’s just I I They won 48 like three years ago, Tim. Ancient history. Yes. I just don’t have a lot of confidence in the collection of players that they’ve assembled together making sense in a coherent way. I you know there is a chance there is a chance that there they end up like a 38 win type team and that wouldn’t be a great season and it wouldn’t be it would be represent you know it would be the fact that the team you know just doesn’t really come together well but I don’t know I’m going to go under what do you think the like what’s the higher chance they win 40 games again or all three of Sabonis D Rozan Lavine are on the uh by the end of the year. Go with the first one. Russell Westbrook doesn’t miss the playoffs. Tim, uh I actually Okay, I put a little action down on this one while I was out at the Westgate. I’m not going to lie. The Portland Trailblazers 33 and a half wins. I put my money where my mouth is here and I took the over and I did it sleeping like a baby afterward, too. This is this is my first over of the show and it’s a pretty easy over. They had, I believe, the uh the the best defense after March 1st in the NBA, something close to that. And they’re only going to get better defensively. Like everything they showed down the stretch of last season, I think, is something that is is very replicable. Um, you know, it’s it’s uh I’m I’m in I’m in on Portland. I I don’t really know how they score, but uh they’re going to be incredibly difficult to score against and um yeah, give me the over. I’m hoping that we can get back out to Vegas in October for that Mavs game. Um, and I would love to ask Jeff whenever we go out there, like did the news of Dame getting what stretched by the Bucks and then signing with the Blazers? He’s obvious he’s not going to play this season, but did that still have any impact on their overunder just because of like the the vi just based on vibes alone? You know, I wonder if that did move the line at all or not. But 33 and a half, this is not financial advice, but that I’m feeling good about the over there. Um, all right. Last one of this segment before we hit a break. This is a This is a Mavs. This is a Mavs nemesis, Tim. An absolute nemesis. The Phoenix Suns. 31 a half is their overunder. Last season they went 36 and 46. You think they’re going to win 32 or more or 30 or less? Or I guess 31, whatever. I just Sorry. I I think I’m actually going to take the over here. And I’m not like high on Phoenix and I do think that they they’re going to be like a 32 33 win team, but uh Dylan Brooks is a defensive floor raiser. He does make your team like he does tend to have a consistent ability to make your team play hard. And I just think that they’re going to get some wins. There is some talent up and down the roster. It’s it’s I still don’t exactly know what the direction uh is for Phoenix, but I see them winning, you know, 32 33. I think that’s fine. I think I’m taking the over pretty comfortably, too. I don’t know if they get to like 35, but I’m with you on Brooks. I think he’s just he’s I don’t know if he’s ever been on a bad defense in his career. Uh I mean, he is really good getting Williams and Malawatch in there. I mean, last year they were like, you know, our our friends over at the the PHNX Suns podcast were like, I can’t believe how good Nick Richards is. Oh my god. I mean, they were so desperate to get a big and now they got two. Um, and you know, Jaylen Green, I think, is gonna be kind of motivated. I don’t know if he’s like good. Uh, I mean, he’s talented obviously, but I don’t know if he’s like, you know, lead or co-lead on a really good team kind of good, right? uh at this point in his career, but I think that, you know, I it’s a lot of addition by subtraction for them and they have some really interesting young players that they’re going to have to play now. They can’t just like bench Ryan Dunn mysteriously for no reason anymore. Um I think they’re going to get some wins. I really do think they’re going to get some wins. Um all right, so that was Phoenix, Portland, Kings, Spurs, Raptors, Jazz, and Wizards. We took two overs uh out of the first seven teams in the league. him. We’re a bunch of haters. Yeah, that’s fine though. The world needs some haters. That’s true. That’s true. I do think though, looking at the next uh looking at the next crop of teams, I think we might find some kindness in our heart. So, stick around for our picks for the next batch of squads coming up right after this on the DLS Mavs podcast show. But first, let me tell you about our friends at Branded Bills. No, I got a big lunch coming up. I need both hands for uh for for the lunch that I’m going to eat today. So, I’ll maybe do it after that. Um All right. Let’s go through one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Oh, I highlighted eight teams actually just like kind of by accident. Tim, it’s feeling pretty good. Uh, we’re picking overunders for the entire NBA. This one, Philadelphia 76ers, Tim 44 and a half. That feels really high. That is banking up. That is banking a lot of hope on Joel Embiid. I mean, yeah, it’s like I don’t even know what to do with this one. I don’t think anybody knows exactly what to do with this one. It’s it’s uh you know at this point in Joel Embiid’s career, you’re looking for him to play like 50 regular season games and be healthy for the playoffs. Like like they’re gone. There’s no like perfect bill of health that is even plausible at this point. Um that said, if he plays 50 games, you know, they’ve got a lot of talent up and down the roster. Uh they’ve got some players. They’ve got BJ Echcom. Uh you know, they’ve got uh they famously have uh Quinton Grimes who probably will eventually resign with him. I I think the first ever mascot of this podcast was Quinton Grimes. He was He was indeed. So I Somebody’s got to win in the East. Somebody. I still am going to go under, though. I’m with you. Stein is pretty optimistic that they can be a playoff team even if Embiid plays, you know, I’m assuming he 40. He’s going to play some. I don’t I don’t think he’s going to play 75 or anything like that, but Stein is still pretty high on the Sixers. I’m not I’m taking the under. I think that they can still be a top 10 team just because there’s a lot of lousy squads out there. Um but there’s a lot of teams that are just going to be better than them, man. They’re going to be able to outtalent them, especially when Embiid is out, out muscle them inside. Um, this one I feel like you’re kind of leading the pack on the Orlando Magic right now. Uh, 51 and a half wins for them. That would be a huge step forward for them from last year. They won 41 games last year. Granted, they were extraordinarily banged up for the first like 50 or so games. So, do you think the Magic can take that kind of leap this year? Yeah, that would be a huge leap for Orlando. And they’re going to make it. Give me the over, folks. I like Yeah. Tanner, do we got a sounder? Do we got like a I just, you know, I think I think it’s a team that that uh you know, Desmond Bane, great fit. Uh great example of you know, if you have a player that you think perfectly fits what you’re looking for, yeah, go pony up and pay the price. And you know, even even if you consider that an overpay, and I I think the as we kind of looked at the quality of those first round picks, the four that they sent to Memphis for Desmond Bane, uh you know, made it a little bit more clear that that you know, it wasn’t it wasn’t uh anything egregious. But but yeah, as long as this team’s healthy and you know, the the expectation is that they they will be um you know, this is going to be a a top five defense and I think that offense is finally going to be humming along alongside them. I think it’s just a team that’s going to rack up regular season wins. I don’t personally have the guts to lay money down on this one, but I am with you. I think that they’re going to be significantly improved. Um, not just because like they got a a good player in Bane and I think they’ll be healthier, but looking around the East, you know, six teams finished ahead of them last season and three of them, Milwaukee, Indiana, and Boston will be without their best or second best player from last season’s teams for the entire season. So, I think Orlando, as long as they don’t, you know, suffer that uh similar kind of ravage of injuries that they that they went through last year, I think they’re going to be better than all three of those teams. And that alone is going to get you five or six wins, you know. So, I’m I’m with you. I’m with you. Magic over. Yeah. OKC Thunder, Tim 62 and a half. Last season they won 68. They could have won more. They were kind of just coasting down the stretch of the year. Um, dude, that’s just so many wins though. 62 and a half is so many wins. But you said it, they could have won more down the stretch of the season. They were missing their two starting centers. You know, there for most of the first half of the year. They It’s not like last season was, you know, a 100% effort, 100% perfect uh luck and health and everything went Oklahoma City’s way. wasn’t that type of season for them and they still won 68. I wonder what the highest overunder’s ever been. I I guess I guess maybe the Warriors teams probably were pretty nasty. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It has to be the the Warriors. But I’m going to go over I guess I’m going to go over again just because this is a team that has made winning regular season games look very very easy and they did it last season. I don’t see a reason to doubt that they’re going to do it again. I just I again I don’t have the guts to actually do it. I think that there is something to the idea of like okay you win a title you play a bunch of games this you know even though they blew out a bunch of teams last year those guys still played a lot of games a lot of minutes and all that stuff it takes a toll on your legs. So if I had to pick I would go under but I I don’t actually have the guts to do it. So I would I would say listen to Tim. Tim seems more confident in his answer than I did in mine. Uh next They talk about the they they talk about a championship hangover, but like did you see that locker room after the you know after game seven? They looked hung over right after they won. They were already It did not look like a It did not look like a type of championship that was going to leave a lot of hangovers on anybody. So that’s true. That that is a really good point. That is a really good point. Um New York Knicks 52 and a half wins. If you’re looking at the East right now, that’s one of two or three teams that I think everyone would think is in that small circle of teams that could come out of the East. For that reason, 52 and a half seems low, but it’s not like they’re a perfect team by any means. Yeah, I would agree that, you know, it’s it’s not they’re not in like the inner circle, my inner circle of of title contenders, but somebody has to win. You know, it’s it’s it’s them in and Cleveland, which obviously we’ll get to in a bit. And I don’t know. I’m still going to go I I I still feel better going under on this one. Not by much. Like this is a 51 team. Maybe 51. Maybe 52. Asking for more than that seems like a bit more than I’m willing to to give them at this at this juncture. I’m going to take the over. I just feel like it. I I I’m not like a huge Knicks believer. I think they’re very good. I think they’re going to they could sleepwalk their way to a top four seed in the East, but I’m just going to take the over just because I feel like being nice. These are our first two disagreements. I think we had been we’d been aligned on every single one, right? We we’re doing a good job of embracing debate during this second segment, Tim. We are. It’s important. We love debate. Uh all right, four more to get through in the next five minutes. So, let’s let’s go into the cruise control here. Uh New Orleans Pelicans 30.5. That is a tough one. under. Really pretty easy under. Okay. What if Zion plays like 60 games? Then over the Yeah, but I I just I’m not expecting that to happen. It’s very difficult to expect that to happen. I I do think that, you know, I hope he plays 60 games. And even if he plays 60 games, like I I there’s still a scenario where they win 30 games. Hm. Half of the games that he’s available for and they lose every other game where he’s not. Yeah. I mean, they won 21 last year and granted they they were just like completely just falling apart by the end. I guess probably it’s safest to go under, but that’s one that I would not touch. I would stay far away from the Pelicans. Uh same Minnesota Timberwolves 50 and a half. To me, I’m I’ve been a Wolves believer for many years now. So, I’m I’m just mashing the over. Just over. Just give it to me. But 50 and a half though, that’s way up there. It is. Last season they won 49. So they would need to get two wins better. And they were better down the stretch of last season. I I’m going to go under. I think a lot of teams are going to be stuck right around like 4950 wins in the West. It’s a tough range. It is a really tough range, but I think I’m surprised that feels high to me. It feels I I’m surprised they set it that high. It is high, but it’s it’s the same thing with the Wolves. Like two or three years in a row, they they’re kind of like gh through December and then around Christmas they’re just like uh let’s uh push the let’s be a good team button. You know, if they could just find where that button is in November instead, then that’s an easy over. If not, then you know, you’re going to be feeling sad if you’re a Wolves believer. And and it might like the the button might have been they just needed to play three months with Julius Randall maybe. Yeah, maybe. And even that said, like I still there think there’s scenarios where they end up trading him. You know, I know he has settled in and I know that they’re sticking with this team for now, but you know, it’s it’s notable they had conversations about Kevin Durant. Like their front office looks at their roster and thinks it needs a little bit more. We sure he’s going to be there for a long time. Maybe not. Uh, Milwaukee Bucks 43 and a half. That’s under for me. Really? Yes. I think I’d go over. Really? Yiannis is that good. And he does have a bunch of shooters around him. And I’m not like a huge fan of the Bucks this season, but I’m a huge fan of Giannis. And I I think in the East, I think they’re just going to beat up on bad teams. I don’t think bad teams can uh can can really slow down stop Giannis at all. And in that context, I think that they’re just going to they’re going to tally it up. They’re going to get to like 40 45 46 47 somewhere around there. Uh just on the back of of Giannis being Giannis, even if I don’t love every aspect of the roster, I just think here’s the case against the over. I think they’re they’re going to lose every single game that Giannis doesn’t play. Like I just I don’t think they’re good at all. I think Giannis I mean I I’m you know I’m a big Giannis guy. Um I think they will go defeated without him. Um but I do agree that you could kind of like you could win 45 games in the East but like spiritually be a 39 win team, you know. Um so maybe they do go over but I think like that in essence they are like a they’re a 39 win team. That team is not good. uh they do just get lucky because of where they’re geographically located even though they’re I believe Milwaukee is in the central time zone. So I don’t know about that. All right, last one. Miami Heat 38 and a half wins last season. Tim, they won 37. I think I’m going to go under, but I could I I wouldn’t touch this one if this is not one I have strong feelings about either way. It’s not a bad team. It’s not a good team. That’s kind of what the line indicates. But, you know, which side of bad or good are they going to end up falling on? Uh, I don’t know. Flip a coin. Um, I’ll go reluctantly without much confidence. I I’ll go under. I think just for the sake of disagreement, I’ll go over. I don’t think they’re going to get to 41 wins. Like, I think they’re a below 500 team, but, you know, you do have a little bit of wiggle room. So, there you go. That’s That’s the most disagreeable that me and that jackass next to me will ever be. All right. A I’m just kidding, man. You know, you know, we’re pals. Um All right. Coming up next here, I’m looking at the I’m looking at the alphabet here. We might get to the Mavs in the next segment, but we should probably save them for the last segment. So, let’s round out some uh some of the West contenders and uh talk about the Detroit Pistons coming up next on the DLS Maps podcast. Is it my Am I going or are you doing this one? You are going. Okay, I’m do I’m going. Um, so we’re still running the Die Hard sale, folks. And And here’s the thing. Here’s the thing. Here’s the thing. So, we tell you about being a die hard every single day. Like, if you’ve watched 10 or 50 or 100 of these shows, then you’re probably like, “God, I have Bobby’s script memorized. He always says, “Hey, Hugh, scan that little QR code.” And then he tries to find it. And then he tells me about the Benny’s. And then Kevin makes fun of him for saying Benny’s. And then everyone’s like, “Well, Benny’s is a real word.” And then we talk about Discord and all these other believe it or not, that’s all in the script. That is every single aspect of that. His camera is about where Jeff Sherman Golf Odds Oh, no. There we are. I’m Bobby. Uh we’re going through overunders from uh set by Jeff Sherman who was at Golf Odds. He is the VP of risk at the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas. I’ve been there. I’ve stayed there. I have too. It’s a great great hotel. Great. Great Super Bowl, too. Um I was there last month, actually. I as was I. And he set these about last month. Now, again, these might have changed. Some of these might be one or two wins uh apart from what we’re talking about now. This is just the the odds that he posted on July 12th. Um if you missed the first two segments, we we’re going in reverse alphabetical order because we didn’t want to end with Utah and Washington because like who wants to even acknowledge those teams? No offense. Um, yeah. So, we are we’re picking things back up with the Memphis Grizzlies 40 and a half wins. Now, what I don’t remember, Tim, is if the Jiren Jackson news had come out by this point in time. I think it had. Unclear when his season will begin, but 40 and a half wins for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Desmond Baneless Memphis Grizzlies. Yeah, this feels like a pretty clear under to me. They’ve got some good players, but it may be not clear. Like I do think this is going to be a team that wins at minimum, you know, 35 games. like like even even you know outside of like a completely snake bit injury season which certainly they’ve had before you know I do think this is a team that still has a lot of good players that’s going to win games but I would probably hit the under. I think I’m with you. I think I’m with you. They uh Memphis, you know, they they win a lot of games at home and they they are kind of a tryhard team and so if you’re not ready to go, they’ll beat you. Um, but man, without Bane and maybe Jackson for a while, like I just don’t know if they have enough talent to win a lot of games. I think that they’re going to be a tough out every single night, but I don’t know, man. I just I don’t I don’t I don’t see it for them this year. Um, LA Lakers 48.5. Last season they won 50. Will the Lakers win at least 49 games? Tim Ko. I don’t love every aspect of their roster and LeBron James is not yet a Maverick, but perhaps could be, but I I think I I think I’m fine going over here. Over. Okay. Wow. Yeah. Um I’m not okay going over. I’m I’m taking the under. I’m taking the under. I think that I mean Luca whatever you know Luca’s doing softcore magazine covers um he looks great you know LeBron if he’s still on the team we’ll see but dude I just I’m I’m not a huge DeAndre Aton believer um I think that the the bad ju guu you get from uh speaking ill of my my real life best friend Dorian Finny Smith that’s real and I just I don’t know I don’t know I I’m not sure that they can um I’m not sure that they can get there. So, I would take the under. I would take the under on that. LA Clippers 47 and a half. That looks juicy to me. I can’t believe the Clippers line is lower than the Lakers. This was before Bradley Beal. This was before I think they did one other thing, too. I’m not sure, but yeah. Yeah. Also, people love betting on the Lakers, so there’s always going to be a little bit of, you know, honestly, for that reason alone, I probably should have gone under, you know, like I I think the Lakers line is always going to be a win or two higher just because of how much people love betting on them. And Vegas is very close to LA, so like it’s, you know, Right. Right. Right. Um certainly going over on this July 12th version of uh the Clippers over on where would it be where you would have to give it a second thought? Like 50 Yeah, like like 50.5 is is where I start slowing down and and reconsidering just because it’s a because it’s a veteran team. I I do think it’s the type of team that’s going to look at the regular season and say, “We’ve got to win games, but it this is not our final destination.” Like like preserve and, you know, make sure that everybody gets to the postseason doing okay. I think that they can do that and still win a lot of games because they’re just so freaking good and deep and they just they have so many different ways they can play. I think the Clippers are really, really, really good. And um I would comfortably take the over on that. I would comfortably I did not do it while I was out there. Um so I can’t say I put my money where my mouth is. But with this next team, I’m a coward. I am a coward. With this next team though, I did. I made like seven bets while I was out there. I guess we they’re all like early in the alphabet, but uh Indiana Pacers 38 and a half. I did not bet the overunder on this, but I did say that the Pacers would miss the playoffs. Uh I feel really comfortable with that. Um I believe at the time Miles Turner was still uh a Pacer or like was still a free agent with the Pacers. So that that total might actually have dropped since then. But Tim, how do you feel about 38 and a half? Yeah, I would go under because I think it’s the smart logical thing for Indiana to do. I do think they’re going to still end up winning some games and just because the East is so bad, it’s very possible they’re still a playin team or something like that. But I do expect this to be under. It’s just, you know, it’s it’s what Indiana, I think, is hoping for to be frank. I’m going under. I’m going way under. Um yeah, if it was like 34 and a half, I still might take the under. Um but we’ll see. Rick is Rick Carell is a oneofone coach. So maybe they win 40 anyway, you know, who knows. Um he’s very good at tanking when he wants to. You what? He’s very good at tanking games if he wants. He is the best. Uh 54 and a half for the Rockets. That’s way up there. That’s way up there. I I I’m going to be honest. I that that’s maybe a little too rich for me. I do think they’re going to be a very good regular season team. I do think they’re going to win a lot of games. I could absolutely see them going over on this, but I am very hesitantly going to say under. Just a lot of wins. I think I would comfortably I would comfortably take the under. Um because I don’t know how many games KD plays and without him even with him I don’t think they have a lot of shooting and without him they definitely don’t have a lot of shooting. What about Reed Shepard Pop and I don’t know I I could just I I it’s always weird with these teams that like kind of emerge out of nowhere and have a a really good year but don’t really do anything with it. Sometimes the next year they take another step and sometimes the next year they’re like ah they kind of get too big for their britches, you know. Um I think the brand of basketball they play is sort of like it’s sort of foolproof in that, you know, they have to play physically and and defense first in order to win and all that stuff. So like it’s not that like they’re just going to start relaxing. But 55 wins is a lot and for that reason I’m under. Golden State Warriors 46 and a half wins. Tim, I think give me the over. I think they’re going to be one of those teams that’s, you know, I said there’s just going to be a glut of teams kind of at 48, 49, 50. Um, I think the Lakers are going to be there. Uh, I just named another team that I I thought was going to kind of be in that mix. I mean, I guess Houston to an extent as well. Um, Minnesota, I think, is is going to kind of be in that range. And I think I think Golden State will be as well. give me the over. Um, obviously we’re projecting the fact that officially Al Horford is is not signed and technically, you know, as of right now, Jonathan Kaminga is not been sent to another team. I I think I think Golden State, you know, I think their front office would would kind of just rather him resign for a couple years and then then still have him as a trade piece um than than ship to Sacramento, which was a move that just makes absolutely no sense to me. But this is the most Oh, sorry. Sorry. Go ahead. Um this is the most like kind of like forecasting that I’m going to do for any team. I think that the Warriors are going to resign Kuminga and then they’re going to be really aggressive at the trade deadline kind of like they were whenever they got Jimmy Buckets and I think the Warriors are going to be like one of the best teams in the league from midFebruary to the end of the year. I don’t know if they get enough wins in the meantime but I do think that they’re going to like take a big big big swing at some point assuming everyone stays healthy. I think I’m still gonna go under, but I think that of all the teams in the West, I would expect the Warriors to be like the hungriest to make a big move mid-season. That makes sense to me. I would agree. Detroit Pistons 44 and a half. Tim, last year they won 44 on the dot. Of course, they did lose a couple guys. They lost Timmy Hardaway. Um Malik Beasley, I don’t know if that guy’s going to play NBA basketball anymore. Uh Shruder’s gone. Like there’s a lot because of what we’re doing right now. you. What? Why? Why wouldn’t he play? Did Did he Did he mess up some overunders? I don’t know. No comment. It’s against the spirit of the conversation, Tim. He’s just He’s a basketball player doing basketball player things. I I guess I’m going to go over just because somebody has to get wins in the East and I’ve already I think I already went under on on New York. So, I don’t think it’s going to be, you know, I haven’t named a lot of teams. A lot of I think there are good teams in the East. There are some good teams in the East that are going to win games just as they they’ve got to do it. And I’m going to say Detroit’s one of those teams I’m going to go over. Kind of like a over by default situation. Yeah. Yeah. That’s kind of sad. I I kind of agree with you though because there are a lot of lousy teams out there. But dude, I don’t know. I mean, you you lose your two best shooters, your backup point guard, who was really important for them, and they didn’t replace him, right? Like at all. I mean, Jayen Ivy’s coming back. I think that’s the idea. Yeah. I don’t know. I I’ll say this. Carris Levert, also I’ll take the over, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they go under. How’s that for fence sitting? Um, that’s pretty much the boldest thing anybody’s ever said on this podcast. I agree. That’s what we do here. Uh, all right, last one this segment. The Denver Nuggets 53 and a half wins over. And Denver’s never Denver’s been the one seed, have they? I’m trying to think. I don’t think so. They’ve they’ve they’ve never really had a just season where they went into the went in and just rolled over everybody. But I think I think if they’re ever going to do it, it’s going to be this year. I think I think it’s actually going to happen. Who knows? We might even get Jamal Murray in the All-Star game. Like like if they’re that dominant, like there’s there’s a chance it finally might happen. I think the only team in the West, assuming that there’s no like weird shenanigans, the only team in the West that can win the West other than the Thunder this year, the Denver Nuggets. I’m taking the over very comfortably. I think they are going to push close to 60 wins, assuming, you know, good health and and all that sort of thing. Um, they’re very very good. Uh, that was a team that I put a little uh I got some decent odds on them to come out of the West, actually. So, I actually I did put a little action on the Nuggets. Um, okay Tim, we got seven teams left. A lot of them, in fact, six of them are from the East. Only one is from the West. And you know who that is. Hint, the team name is in the name of this podcast. And the fourth segment of said podcast is coming up right after this. Bobby told you how to diverse. I’m going to tell you again. I’m going to tell you a little bit more about that. Uh I’m going to tell you that right now, you know, the 19 biggest Mavericks questions headed into the 2025 26 season. It’s a little series I’m running from now until the the year starts till October. Only 19. Well, I had 19. I I I started listing my biggest questions and that’s what it came out to. Gotcha. Okay. Yeah, this this wasn’t a list meant to, you know, fill one to one to 10. You know, I wasn’t looking for things. I came up with a bunch of questions and uh you know, one of them is will Dererick Lively shoot threes next season? And I wrote about that because there are people who have talked a lot, you know, there is a lot of belief, there’s a lot of um excitement or hope in the fan base that maybe at some point he’s going to be a three-point shooter. And no, I can’t tell you right now, you know, uh, the exact number of threes that he’s going to shoot next season. I hope it’s a few, but I I, you know, I I can tell you that he took one jump shot last season. And would you like to know where that ranks among players who have played 800 minutes? It’s got to be last. It’s got to be last. Yeah. Yeah. It was last. It was the fewest fewest in the NBA. And so when you look at that, those players, nobody who has taken one jump shot has gone into a following season and taken like 50. And so it it I’m just trying to trying to couch, trying to find interesting ways to, you know, just understand is is this guy going to be a shooter? Is he not? Uh there’s also some reason uh some reasons for optimism that he’s going to be a shooter later on. Uh, you know, I’ve written about how many threes the Mavericks are going to take as a team as well. And, uh, got more coming soon, so sign up for that. Uh, all, uh, all dls.com/diehard, get access to everything. Well said, Tim. Well said. All right, it’s the last 12 minutes of our work week here on the DLSMAPs podcast. We got a big team to talk about and then we got a bunch of teams from the East that no one cares about to talk about. Let’s start with the big one, Tim. The Dallas Mavericks. According to the Westgate Superbook, now this line said again, July 12th, 2025, the Mavs over under for regular season wins is 41 and a half, which is a tad higher than a couple other uh books that put theirs out before the Westgate did. And Jeff Sherman, who who runs that place, uh talk to us about that, but 41 and a half. Tim, how you feeling? I do think that this is going to be a team that, you know, here that that this is the whole thing, you know, like they can be a 500 team and they can be a 500 team while Kyrie’s out. I’m going to I’m going to give them I’m going to give him a 500 pace until Kyrie gets back. And I am going to assume that Kyrie gets back, let’s say February, and they play a tick above that. Let’s go over. Over. Sure. Tim Ko says over, folks. It’s a winning season for the Mavs. Um, I admittedly I played along with the Westgate and I put some money down for the Mavs to go under 41 a half. Um, I have very serious concerns about their playmaking and their shooting. Uh, I have very serious concerns obviously about Kyrie and about Anthony Davis. Um, and you know, I I think that Cooper Flag, we could like 6 months from now be sitting around thinking, “Oh my god, can you believe how Cooper Flag how good Cooper Flag is?” But there’s also a chance where like well he is like 18 you know it might not happen overnight you know and so if Kyrie misses a lot of time and if 80 misses a decent amount of time and if Cooper Flag is not a top 50 player in the NBA right away then I think the Mavs are guaranteed to go under. But if Cooper Flag is pretty good and if AD is pretty healthy and if Kyrie comes back I think they’re it’s pretty likely to go over. Uh I I feel like 41 and a half for that reason is like that’s a great overunder for this team. You make a compelling case. I could definitely see them going under as well now now that you lay it out like that. You know, before I hadn’t really considered that and now I’m in a situation. I’m happy that I could tell you about it. I’ll stick with my over though. Yeah. No, no, embrace uh we’re embracing debate, dude. And like I hope they go over. I hope I lose that bet. Um, but if if they have a bad season, at least I’ll have a little something to show for it. I’ll get a free dinner out of it at the end of the year. Um, all right. Cleveland Cavaliers 56 and a half. That is big. They did win 64 last year. So, I Yeah, I’m going over. I’m good with an over on this one. I’ll go I’ll go over to 56. Somebody’s got to win. And you know, they I just I just think that’s a really really good team and I think that I think they all understand they have something to prove next season. Chicago Bulls. This is another one that I I did play this one. Chicago Bulls 32 and a half. I smashed the over on that, Tim. I was going to say over. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 39 last year. Yeah. That I mean it’s still a competent team. every single year they’re like three every they they win 38 games every single year. 38 or 39 wins. Like they’re not quite 500 and that’s just who they want to be every single season. And I don’t probably not the most the smartest direction to go as a as a franchise, but yeah, that’s an easy over for me. I agree. I agree. I feel like I’m stealing money from the Westgate when I do that. I I almost don’t even want to talk about it because they might get mad at me. Charlotte Hornets. I think Jeff I think Jeff maybe he said it, you know, as kind of like a treat. Oh yeah. You know, do you think they ever do that? They they just put one in there where it’s like, you know, the odds are kind of in our favor, but like we’re gonna we’re gonna we’re gonna let you guys, you know, but then they did it for the Chicago call that a lost leader. There you go. But they did it for the Chicago Bulls. So, like most people aren’t even going to like most people forget the Chicago Bulls even exist. And so, it’s kind of like hiding in plain sight. That is true. Uh, one team that is pretty regularly a loss leader is the Charlotte Hornets. Their overunder is 26 and a half. I’m going to go over on that. Wow. Okay. I mean, it’s a it’s it’s like many of the overunders. It is a question of injuries and LaMelo has not been particularly uh you know healthy of late but I I I I want to say the stat is like they didn’t win a single game without him on the court or something close to that. They were horrible without him. And you know Canipple I think could be he’s a much better Josh Green. I mean if nothing else he’s way better than Josh. They’re starting to accumulate a, you know, a critical mass of talent where I think just because they have a lot of good players, they’re going to start winning games. I can see that. I can see that. I would stay away from it. I might take the under tentatively, but I think it’s going to be really close for them. Um, Brooklyn Nets 20 and a half. That seems very low, but also like who’s going to win games for them ever? Cam Thomas, Tim. Oh. Oh. Oh, that’s right. Yeah, I forgot about him. He hasn’t officially resigned yet. That’s true. He doesn’t play for them, so maybe 20 and a half is is high. I was listening to the AllNBA the All City NBA podcast. It’s a good show. AllNBA podcast with Adam Morris who quoted this was it was in an article. I’m not sure which one, but apparently there’s a quote from uh there’s a uh there’s a there’s a quote from a Brooklyn front office executive that said Michael Porter Jr. could be the scoring leader next season. I don’t believe that or agree with it, but I love it. Tim Leggler was horrified at the at the thought. He seemed actually offended that somebody would even suggest this. I do think there’s so much entertainment value if they do resign Cam Thomas. Cam Thomas and Michael Porter Jr. basketball I think is going to be incredible. I I will be tuned in. I will be locked into my television. I will be there no matter what. And I’ll still take the under. Boston Celtics 43 and a half. Now, somebody who could be the scoring leader next season, Jaylen Brown. Oh, I don’t think so. I don’t think so. No, I don’t think he’s that kind of player. Maybe not. He’s going to have the reigns. He’s going to have the freedom to do it. He is. If he’s on their team. Yeah. I Wait, why wouldn’t he be on their team? I don’t know. It’s just people people talk. I feel like you’re not saying something. No, I’m I’m not not saying something. It’s just like his name gets tossed around as, you know, trade candidate a lot. It does. It does. I think that’s quite a bit too rich for me. I’m going to go under. I actually went into this thinking that it was going to be set at like 36 and I’d be like, “Yeah, I could I could.” And that like like that’s a huge difference from where it’s set at. That’s almost 10 wins. I thought it would be much lower and I was gonna I thought it was going to be a scenario where I was contemplating, you know, like look at the infrastructure, look at the talent, like they still have players, still have good players who are going to win games. They’re not outright tanking this year, but that’s way too high for me. I’m going to go under. I think I’m going to take the under two. 43 and a half. I it’s just tough though cuz like they have the home court, they have the system, they have the coach and the management, you know, they have like the desire to be good even though they are sort of punting, but like they could turn around and trade Simons for something. I don’t know. I don’t know. They have Baylor Shyman. Yeah, I would wait. How about this? If you ask me today, I would take the under, but I would hold off. This is not financial advice. I would hold off on making a Boston Celtics overunder under pick until opening night. I want to know who’s on their team. That makes sense. go from there. They’ve got Luca Garza. They’ve got Hugo Gonzalez. This is not a compelling case that you’re making, Tim. They’ve got Nimas Quueta. Atlanta Hawks. The last team. They do not have George Nyang anymore, though. 47 and a half wins for the Atlanta Hawks. I think I am really excited to watch the Atlanta Hawks and they’re massively improved and I think that they can very well be a fourth or fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. I feel like this is a touch too rich for me. Let’s let’s get to 45 wins before we start talking like approaching 50. But I could see it happening. I think they’re a much better team than they were, you know? I think they’re on the rise. thing is last year they won 40 and so like if we apply the same logic to the Magic I think the Magic got more better than the Hawks did if that makes sense. But the same logic where like let’s say the Celtics Pacers and Bucks combined to win like 25 to 30 fewer games this year than they did last year or went lose 25 to 30 more games than they did last year. It might even be more than that. Someone’s got to pick up those wins and I think the Hawks are going to pick up a few of them. It wouldn’t surprise me if they go over, but yeah, I agree. If it was like 45 and a half, I’d feel great about hitting the over. If it was 46 and a half, I might. 47 and a half is like that’s the line. That is the line to me. I think I might go under just out of fear. I think that’s about where I fall. And it it’s like I I really I really am excited that the Atlanta Hawks, something I have not said in quite a few years. And I guess I guess the main argument is is just, you know, like like like how much how much is Chris alone like swinging this team? I feel like I feel like he is accentuates, but I I I just don’t know if he is like changing everything about about it for them. Like Jaylen Johnson is that that’s the real getting him back. Huge. Yeah. Yeah. And it’s like, okay, you got what, like 30 games of Jaylen Johnson last season getting 70, that’s what they get. He has been a little bit injuryprone throughout his career. Uh well, put it this way. So last year they got like 30 of Jaylen and zero of KP. This year you’re probably going to get like 100 combined, maybe 120 or 130 combined from them. It’s a lot more games. Yeah. You know what if you got 160? That would be they would probably win 50 games. What if you got 164? That would be incredible. I’d be really happy for KP. I don’t know. I I I think the Hawks are going to be really interesting. Um that was my last thing that I did. I put money on them to win the East because there was compelling odds and I thought, you know what, I’m gonna do it. Wow. Just a little treat. Um, I don’t think they are going to win the East, but I think really outside of I think Cleveland is the only team where if they were going into a series with them, I’d be like, “Oh, that’s gonna be really tough.” Yeah, I would agree. Otherwise, I like them against everyone. Well, we solved basketball. We did. We uh we just made you so much money. Uh so I what I want you to do is bookmark this video and then come back eight months from now and let us know how much money we won you with this very show. If you lose money from this show, then forget that we exist. Do not come talk to me. Do not approach me in public. I don’t want to know about I don’t want to hear about it. All right. 1. Listen guys. I love this show but the underselling of this team has been ridiculous. They had a historically bad injury plagued season. This is the deepest team in the NBA. Even without Kyrie they are better than the Warriors and several others. You want to project for the Warriors (whose team is far from completed and has no depth) but give no quarter for this team. 41.5 is ridiculously low. If Cooper had gone to any other team you guys are adding 5-6 maybe 10 wins to what you thought they would be. You say the Spurs over but Wemby has yet to prove that he can stay healthy and you have no idea how he’ll play with Fox. The Rockets have the same playmaking issues that the Mavs do. Why are the Mavs the team that gets dinged for all these things and no one else does. You even give Orlando the benefit of the doubt.

  2. bro went easy over on the magic (one of the worst offenses in the nba) and went under on the knicks who easily won 50 last year with their best player injured during the home stretch of the season and a more creative offensive coach. prob should stick to mavs content

  3. I see mavericks win 48-50 wins going in as a 4-6 seed being a team no one wants to face in the playoffs because of how potentially dangerous they can be.
