  1. It wasn't possible to begin with, and its status as even a AAA market is going to be in question in a few years. Their AAA team's attendance had dropped precipitously before the A's announced they were coming, and while in the old days when the American League was a separate entity from the National? Under today's merged MLB organizational structure there's no way they'll ever put two teams within 100 miles of an existing market ever again.

  2. I don't think the Sacto market is getting a fair test. Putting a team in Sacto in the future would allow them to tap into the East Bay area fan base.

  3. Even if Vegas didn’t work out, a permanent MLB franchise in Sacramento was never going to happen, sorry. Other candidates would have stepped up, like Nashville, Salt Lake City & Portland.

  4. I don't believe Sacramento was ever a serious contender for a long term team. The mayor of West Sacramento and Vivek Ranadive kind of winked at the camera that it might be, but MLB made sure they did not.

  5. Sacramento the team is going to leave soon so i wonder if the fans in the city stop going to the games at some point before they leave .

  6. Both the Giants and A's looked hard at Sacramento and both found it would not work with the current system even going as far back as the 80s when the Giants were looking. MLB is really tapped out with markets unless they can change their economic model. Lots of smaller to maybe mid sized markets around but that it.

  7. Even though there are A’s fans in Sacramento, the way this happened left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. If this was Sacramento’s own team and fans were rallying around a team, the situation would be much different. The same can be said about Las Vegas. If they were getting their own team there would be excitement about MLB coming there. Right now they probably have a few hundred actual A’s fans in Vegas and a bunch of people that want to see their team play at a new stadium in Vegas.

  8. To bad it's not better. I've been a Giants fan for decades…but always went to at least a few A's games every year. Hope they find a new following in Vegas. I feel bad for the players, coaches and staff. They DO have some good young talent. Happy holidays!

  9. However short-lived this ends up being, I feel bad for Sacramento residents that they couldn't even have their city's name on the team for a few years.

  10. Sacramento folks will not stop going to A's games, even if it is clear the team is leaving. You have to understand that the baseball culture in this area (and the Valley more generally) is surprisingly strong, especially with kids/youth playing baseball almost year round. Rivercats games were always packed, before the A's. That doesn't mean Sac should have a permanent MLB team, but folks are definitely enjoying having the A's and MLB stars playing there.

This also doesn't mean what the A's ownership did to Oakland was acceptable in ANY way. It was despicable and the lowest of lows.

  11. Sorry Brodie, Sacramento SHOULD get an NHL team, no one here wants to travel to San Jose for games. Your traffic is treacherous. WHAT HAVE THE SHARK DONE FOR SAC? nothing

  12. Many Sacramento area A's fans showed solidarity with our Oakland family and didn't go to Sutter Health Park to see the team. I'm one of them. Is it dreamy to have your team playing literal blocks from your house? Yes! Did John Fisher and MLB do Oakland, and NorCal dirty? Absolutely. This was the first year I can remember that I didn't follow the A's. I wonder if the team were to sell what those attendance numbers would look like.
