I keep saying this. Even when Edey is back we need a center and Zach Kleiman just doesn’t care.
Also Aldama is useless when his 3 is falling and more times than not it isn’t falling
Not even gone say it. But we know what must be done. Name rhymes with "is got to go"….I'm seeing the same factor in most losses including tonight.
All of overtime was literally just Ja.
Things I learned/got reminded of today:
1) There is no minutes restriction for Ja. I thought Ja was on a minutes restriction but he played 34 mins today completely fine. So why does he need overtime to play 34 mins? Why do we give our best player 25-28 mins regularly?
2) the rotations today (and previous games) makes no sense. In the 4th quarter, you take out the two hottest players in Ja and Cedric Coward AT THE SAME TIME. No one else is generating points for us and you take them out at the same time when both have been taking over. Come on man like feel the rhythm of the game. Every time we took out Ja and coward we went down by like 7 points, and when we brought them back in they brought it back to a tied game.
3) Cedric’s two way potential is insane. He can easily be an efficient 3 level scorer while being a great defender and rebounder.
4) games like these make me hate that we are never fully healthy. Because Embiid embarrassed koloko. And I know edey would help our rebounding game massively as well as be a better defender against embiid. Not to mention the fact that koloko’s offensive game is so poor. Another thing Edey would be better at. And I won’t even get onto what having Ty Jerome and Scottie pippen jr could do for our offense when Ja is off the court
5) most importantly, I already knew this but Ja is still that guy. And we will only go as far as Ja takes us. So they should prioritize getting Ja the looks that he has been getting the past couple games, increase his minutes, and just pray he can continue to play games consistently and build rhythm. And get this guy some competent bigs man. The game opens up so much for him when he has a big who can screen well and roll well. And the game will open up even more for him if this big is a scoring threat as well. Edey will unlock Ja so I hope that they are both healthy at the same time and for a long time
Man this is getting old, we all know the ending result, no playoffs and trade rumors. Different day same shit, getting old.
Encouraging to have 12 back (assuming this can last for a bit), but contenders are built on defense, and ours has been shambolic at best.
Now if only we could get GG to play defense, rebound, run the court, knock down that open tre ball and become more of a student of the game we'd be cooking with fish grease.
3:12 it’s less that Edey is the most important and more that Kleiman has made a team without any good centers that Edey becomes that much more valuable
Watch my nigga Ja cook. All y’all haters stay on that side. I got all the Ja numbered’s and parallels
where's damichael
Great takes as usual Joe. Even with the system, it's safe to say that if just Edey was back, the Grizzlies don't lose a game besides the Thunder game since he left. If they ever get healthy, WCF run incoming
We should've made that last shot in the 4th we didn't need a 3 but we shouldn't miss those two shots
Such an entertaining game. Coming from a Grizz fan, I tip my cap to Edgecombe. The 76ers got sum special with him. When he needed to score he knocked them down. In my opinion, we lost the game because Jaren missed shots he shouldve made. And bro only scored 15 points. Dissappinting, we need more from him, he makes the most money on that team, he’s the supermax player. Aldama also missed a wide open 3 at the end of the 4th quarter. Again, makes a lot of money, you need to make those. Jaren missed 1 or 2 open 3’s in the 4th too, you need to knock those down. Thats why the Grizz lost imo
I may be completely crazy, but I believe that we win the last two games of KCP wasn’t Hurt. I think he’s a veteran. Defensive presence would’ve made the difference, plus he’s been shooting the ball much better lately.
I’m still hopeful that the Grizzlies can make the playoffs. Turnovers killed us against the Sixers last night. But still a good game. JA is looking like his old self again which is a positive.
Ja had a good scoring game but what about the defense and turnovers? Stop making those excuses and give the same criticism that Jaren gets. Your starting guard only had 3 ast to 4 turnovers and we lost. The backcourt gave up 70 points on 50% shooting from the field and 45% from 3.
Santi took couple of atrocious shots. He is not a good player when good teams take away your strengths. He doesn’t even try on defense, rebounds fall around him but he doesn’t make effort to bend down to grab the ball
This is a playoff team when healthy, I believe it, just gotta get there. Would like to not have to depend on edey as much but hey
Bane is made to look like some big guy when last few seasons showed that the 3 main guys couldn’t get anything meaningful achieved
Also as far as lineups and minutes I’ll continue to keep a bit of an open mind but coach has GOT to stop having lineups without both Ja and Jaren out there. He put out a lineup with neither in the middle of the third and wouldn’t u know it, Philly came back and never really relinquished….i could see in ja face he wasn’t feeling that but he don’t wanna make any more waves
I was there everyone looked good but short handed. And some of them liked handing the 76ers the ball. But it good to see Ja is still Ja
Ja and Jaren should be able to play a comfortable 32-34 minutes a night. Both of them should also be able to play the final 6-8 minutes of a 4th quarter and close games out without interrupted substitutions. We are coming into January and near the halfway point so these minutes and rotation combos need to be figured out. The help defense I.Q. needs to have a good balance. Guys left open on the perimeter too often makes the defense and rebounding look worse than it might seem to be. But again, when you have what, 8 dudes on the injured list and your barely under .500 record? Not bad.
