REACTION: What Could the Cleveland Cavaliers Have Done BETTER In LOSS Against the Detroit Pistons?!
On this edition of Locked On Cavs, Danny Cunningham reacts to the Cleveland Cavaliers losing to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday afternoon. Danny begins the show by dissecting some of the lineups that Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson played that did not work in the loss, citing the lack of offensive creation with certain groups. Danny then discusses the disastrous second quarter in which Detroit scored 47 points and made eight of the 10 3-pointers it attempted. Finally, Danny talks about why this game wasn’t as bad as previous losses but instead one the Cavs need to build off of.

If a meaningful game comes one day, and you ask Evan Mobley to show up and deliver a big game, he will quietly decline and deliver 15 & 4. Is Evan Mobley a #3, #4 or #5 on a championship caliber team?
If Mobley is a #3-#5, I'd offer him to Bucks for Giannis, a definitive #1… Give them whatever it takes. Having a guy who understands the moment and shows up is priceless…
Danny I've been saying all season long since game 3 that Kenny's substitution pattern and minute allocation is the Cavs Biggest problem to overcome because he doesn't adjust to what isn't working and Kenny hasn't shown that he can figure out how to best utilize the players available to him and I can explain why because I watch every game without sound because I've been a fan of Basketball 🏀 for over 40 years so I know what to look for and weaknesses to watch for! " Kenny started the season trying to unlock Mobley and he was exposed as not being capable of being a #2 and not even close to being the Cavs best player so Kenny neglected Hunter and Hunter began to look bad because of Kenny's substitution pattern for him and his limited usage in the Cavs offense the man looked lost both defensively and offensively and Allen already is undersized playing the 5 in the NBA but Kenny chose to sit him out of 4th quarters and on the bench for long stretches just like Hunter and both players who can be valuable if given the minutes and opportunities were instead not prioritized and the Cavs were off to a bad start and I understood that Darius was missing at the start of the season but Kenny wasted a chance to build something else with 2 or 3 of his taller players that everyone who knows Basketball knows and that's Donovan Mitchell can be the Cavs best player or leading scorer but Darius can't be the Cavs second best player if the Cavs are going to have a Legitimate chance at winning a Championship!
Early when it became apparent that Mobley isn't the kind of player the Cavs were hoping for and to me myself all I believed what would have had to happen is Mobley become a 20 points per game and 10 rebounds per game player to go with his defensive capabilities so just 20 and 10 but I always felt that he was always at best a 15 -18 points per game player and a 8-9 rebound per game player consistently and that's what he is but instead of cranking up Hunter's minutes and plays ran for him or just acclimating him into the offense Kenny never wanted Hunter to actually be the Cavs second best player on offense after Mitchell because when Hunter was averaging 18 plus points to start the season for the first 2 or 3 weeks Kenny it felt like saw that Mobley couldn't be the Cavs second best Player in scoring and Hunter was showing in his limited usage that without Darius maybe he could be until Darius got ready to play and the same for rebounding Allen has and has always been the Cavs best Rebounder but not this season because Kenny cut his minutes to allow Mobley to be the Cavs single big but Mobley isn't strong enough physically to play the center position in the NBA right now and maybe never!
The Cavs have always had problems before Kenny and it's a Roster Construction Issue for me mainly but Kenny is now their Biggest Issue to overcome but I don't see it happening and last season showed me everything I needed to see because the Cavs struggles this season is a spill over from the moment they were last lone overall number 1 seed with a record of 56-10 with 16 games left and the Cavs finished 8-8 heading into the Playoffs and we know how that turned out second round loss!

All we had to do was stop Cade (ironically he still went under his PRA line with 40) but things just unraveled after the first Q and we laid another egg Cavs style.
Another thing is we need more from Ev and DG. All betting talk aside y'all gotta figure out how to score 20+ a night. 3 buckets per quarter isn't asking that much from our top guys.

Bro the pistons got a better team then them. We are 2nd in defense. We lead In blocks and steals. Our bench is one of the deepest we’ve had injuries all year and just got ivy back and still the best team in the east
The starting lineup of Garland, Mitchell, Merrill, Tyson and Mobley was a poor starting lineup. Tyson is way undersized to be a power forward.
I feel we did a great job on Cade, but our offense is not running at full steam. Detroit is a top D and they took away the paint, but we could have done a better job of wearing that defense out with better ball movement. If Ball is afraid of getting hurt again, maybe he should hang it up. If Garland is 0-7 from 3 then all he has is moves in the paint against the most physical defense in the league.
Pathetic rebounding AGAIN. Atkinson should bench ANY player who fails to box out and gives up an O board. Second time player should be benched for following game too.
