The biggest thing regarding any trade that you didn’t mention is just salary allocation. Sure those guys are expensive but even if they don’t work out we got out of IQ and Jakob salary. So worst case scenario we get a 1 year rental of a star.

the main reason that the Raptors are mentioned literally each and every trade rumour is as follows:
-Big players never want to sign here for various ignorant and contradictory reasons, so we have to trade for them as opposed to being able to sign outright
-if any pending Free Agents that we fish for is often made to appease our fans by the GM to show"due dilligage" (real or fake)
-Knowing that we have to overpay to even meet up w/ FAs, they use us as bait for other teams to up match or up their signing $
Lastly, lazy journalists needing to fill out their mandatory "Top 5 destinations for X player" listicals for them to get their content post minimums on Bleacher Report
Pessimistic of me however, fooled too many years…
