We have to trade Gafford or Naji.. we can't afford the Davis contract..and we need to get under the second apron.. This all comes back to money not talent.. Saying you don't want to see AD go away for nothing means we have to say bye to these players.. Should've traded him for a bag of chips when u had the chance..
So no AD or Lively, so how on earth does trading Gafford make sense?

Hold until the summer when they hire a GM.
Just hold what you've got, no trade is necessary now. Get AD's surgery, sit kyrie for the season with AD, go into the lottery with your fingers crossed and see what you get.
Let Cooper and Max develop, go into the 2026-27 season with a healthy, rested kyrie. Maybe a 75% AD and you've got a possibly contending team

Getting AD back in 6 to 8 weeks which we must plan on. We will be hopefully no worse than 16 games under 500. Thus does it make since to rush Irving back? NO. Should Kidd play Flagg more mins? NO. So do we outright Tank? Its a deep solid draft coming up. Keep untouchable: Flagg, Ryan, Williams, Maxi, Marshall, PJ, Cissi. Check the market value on AD (no one will touch him until off season) but Klay, D'Angelo, Lively & even Powell might land us some solid players or draft picks. Now the wildcard Ace up our sleeve which no one is considering. Irving possibly would be a very very attractive player for a team to pickup before the trade deadline. We hopefully think he will comeback at same level before ACL injury, but he is 33 a undersized guard who relies on speed & quickness, 33 coming of ACL? He might have lost a step? Hope not but certainly a possibility. At least see what his value is and what we might get in return.
I’d rather have a pick in this draft between 18-20 (later hawks pick). Evans or Cenac or the kid from Baylor would be a nice young addition to the team better aligned with Flagg’s timeline. It would also be cheaper than Risacher.
Not big on trading Naji. He’s a good player. He’s a glue guy and a culture guy. We don’t have your pick for a few years after this so we can’t bottom out and ship out all our guys
I want the mavs to go get Jericho Sims from the knicks. Pair him with Cisse and see how they both respond to the extra minutes for the rest of the season

I wouldn't say they haven't considered this. There have been reports about Gafford since the beginning of the year. If the price is right we should move Gaff even if we had found a trade for Davis. Anyone over the age of 25 should be available now if they can be had for a pick. Who cares if we have a center or not, we're not trying to win. We've already tried Coop at the 1 why not see what he can do as a small ball 5?
