Marc Stein On Why The Dallas Mavericks DIDN’T Trade Anthony Davis

NBA Insider Marc Stein joins the DLLS Mavs crew to discuss why the Dallas Mavericks didn’t trade Anthony Davis to the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, or any other team before suffering his most recent injury, this time being ligament damage in his left hand. With the NBA trade deadline less than a month away, the Mavs now might have change course and look for trades involving anyone else on the team not named Cooper Flagg.

  1. Everyone (including you Mark) believes that AD should be moved on…. But Mark, you said that there might be more value to receive in trade, if they wait until the off season. So now everyone on the other side was right and you were wrong. Because now, the Mavs must keep him to the offseason and trade someone else to get under the tax line because the odds of trading AD just went way down (0%). Why, because the Mavs(or were rumored to) wanted draft capital and a young player, along with expiring contracts, which resulted in no offers. Therefore, AD will be a Mav until his contract expires. So what do you think Klutch will do?

  2. Trade Gaff this deadline, get worst now, next year go with “healthy”🤞AD and DLive Center rotation, non can play more than 24 mins a night.

  3. This is like when a guy is going to propose. First he (usually) makes sure he knows the answer then he goes down on one knee. The Mavs should have been sending “send us your best AD trade offers we want to do business” instead of “we might consider expiring contracts and 1st round picks but also we might keep him, might even extend him.” No we weren’t going to be happy with the return. We will never be happy with the return. But imagine how much better we’d feel about getting essentially nothing but cap relief if AD were out 6-12 weeks on the Atlanta bench right now.

  4. Holding onto Anthony Day to Day Davis but so quick to get rid of the Don is insane. Fire everyone. Sale the fucking team. No one involved with the Mavericks has a working functioning brain. Last night AD was in the back watching his fucking Packers loose instead of on the bench cheering on his guys. Kyrie only shows up when its a televised game or if its in LA or NY. Trade them both.

  5. The Mavs only choice now is to accept that AD is going nowhere until at least the trade deadline next year on 1 condition if he comes back next season healthy and plays most of the games from start of the season till the deadline. And even then the prize the mavs will be getting is that some team will offer scraps just to take him off of the Mavs books. Or another scenario he comes back healthy and him and kyrie start winning games for the Mavs with coop and the new rook they drafted helping them avoid the lottery to give a shitty pick to the hornets instead and why not make the playoffs but that is a pipe dream.

  6. 9:35 trading Gaff will be a HUGE mistake. Lively has not proven to be able to stay on the floor. You won't find better than Gaff trust me. Trade Naji, he does nothing, dude can barely get off the floor and he's still in his 20s? He has no vertical. Trade PJ, he just doesn't fit next to Coop and is too expensive for a role player. Get rid of Nembhard, he's too fucking small.

  7. nah hand injury is bs, they tanking for a pick cause kyrie not coming back this year so they wont get passed the 1st round.

  8. Too bad Luka will be eligible for a supermax contract with the Lakers, like he would have been eligible with the Mavs before THE TRADE, after the 27-28 season. AD will probably opt into his 27-28 $63 mil contract and retire after that season. Still, wistfully hoping AD and Luka become free agents in 2028 and Luka comes back home. But, alas, reality says not happening.

  9. The only real question was there any possible trade offers at all for AD. I doubt there was anything. I think we were always stuck with this horrible contract whether he was healthy or not.

  10. Everybody take a step back…..This dude is dumb. Everyone with half brain said AD was injury prone. If the ATL deal was real whoever turned it down should be fired as well.

  11. BET GSW WOULD TRADE KUMINGA FOR AD THIS YEAR,
BETTING ON AD BEING HEALTHY NEXT YEAR

  12. I think the reality is teams would have took ad if you gave them away. If you took expirings for him, I bet Chicago and Atlanta would do it in a heartbeat even now. Some fans and media. Be cool with that now. But somebody better replace his production and if they don't they will destroy this front office. If they trade Ad for expirings, Derek lively better be putting up 20 and 10 next year.

  13. Man… I'm just a basketball, NBA fan, my team is figuring things out but damn is Dallas cooked…. woooooo. I feel much better

  14. Still waiting for Nico to start his job as Lakers gm….no GM has ever helped the team more than Nico 😂

  15. Just do some more stupid moves. Let him walk for nothing. Turns out we let Luka, at this point. Mavs just don't matter, and won't.

  16. Blessings in disguise 🥸
We need a top 5 draft pick & were on track without even tanking. No rush for his return trade him in the off season

  17. I think he'll get traded and someone is going to get him cheap. Atlanta can get him now even cheaper: risacher and there own 1st while keeping that NO pick.

  18. Where are all those guys who said keep AD and push all our chips in this year. Cmon guys. Don’t be shy now.

  19. Do not extend AD…, ever. Better to get nothing in return. Better to make an rnrmy of Rich Paul in perpetuity.

  20. Why would the Hawks ever want AD? At that money? This was always a ruse by the Hawks. They were not going to pay Street Clothes $60M a year to sit.

  21. How anyone even thought that Luka trade was smart is beyond me. Max is mid, and AD is probably the most overrated player in NBA history.

  22. It’s so simple. Tank this year. Try to win next year. Play AD when healthy next year,But he won’t be the centerpiece.

  23. Mavs need to go ahead and keep and AD next year and see if him Kyrie and Coop can make a run. AD should not be traded for pennies on dollar. He now needs to stay healthy to get paid and any player in that situation has to play and play well to max their value so best to roll the dice on that and tank this year and get another young peice.
