MAGIC’S VISION: Passing on Trae Young and what the Orlando Magic are ACTUALLY looking for

The Orlando Magic steered clear of a blockbuster Trae Young despite years of people trying to connect him to the Magic in a potential trade.

The Magic were never hunting for a blockbuster trade this season with the team’s cap situation. Instead, they are trying to thread a very fine needle — improving the roster while also shedding $5.6 million in salary to get under the tax. Fulfilling that goal will be difficult. But the Magic should have the flexibility and options to move to get under the tax and avoid beginning their repeater clock.

With the team’s injuries, the Magic still do not know what they have and still do not know what they will need to take their next step. Orlando is still in the thick of a tight Eastern Conference race.

  1. I was ready a month ago to part ways with JI, but right now I am scared to trade him given how INEXISTENT our defense has been lately. I would trade for a two-way player at the backcourt. I really like the Royce O'Neal suggestion.

  2. With all the injuries this season, the Magic should evaluate the Banchero/Wagner Duo and make a decision next offseason. If they are able to adapt to each other good, if not, built around ONE of them + Bane. In my opinion Wagner is the future franchise player, but it's still to soon to give up on Banchero. Give him the benefit of the doubt until next season. The next step has to be a reliable Center and a pass-first mentality point guard. In an ideal scenario both of them can shoot above 35% from three, space the floor and have a positive impact on defense.

The only players that are untouchable to me are:

F.Wagner (to me he is the franchise player rn, but he has to take his game to an even higher level if he wants to bring a chip to Orlando next season)
    D.Bane (obv reasons)
da Silva (very solid from the bench/6th)
A.B. (if not as a starting PG, at least as backup)
M.Wagner (only if he performs like he did before he got injured)

    —————————————
Banchero (needs to show some rapid growth for the remaining season beside his isolation/hero plays)

  3. Magic needs someone in the middle team think twice to drive on. I know people has given up on bol bol but his shot blocking has bench player in the middle is better than the centers we have now and he would be super cheap. I’m tired team just driving all day to the basket he can rebound as well.

  4. We definitely need a center that will deter the prolfic driving to the basket. It's a must. Would also like to see Monk over here.

  5. When only one team (one of the worst) was willing trade for Trae but so many in this fanbase wanted him, tells us all we need to know about them…They live in 2K land and don’t know ball. Same people that LOVED tyus jones, until they’re watching him every night. Highlight scouts…

Like all the people that LOVED tyus jones

  6. i am very happy the magic never tried to trade for him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wangers are back vs the Pelcians.

  7. You guys have needed shooting forever. How about Isaac and Howard’s dead money plus two seconds for Rui? Low usage, won’t take shots away from anyone else.
