  1. i see malik as more consistent and pretty equal in capability to Lavine, and lavine cuts monks playing time. monk won us games over the years with clutch 3's and wild shots, something lavine just hasnt done

  2. Team wins most definitely help a player being moved.

Scoring 30 while the team gets blown out doesn't entice any team in the NBA.

A player SIGNIFICANTLY raises his value when the TEAM has success.

No GM in the league cares if a player gets his numbers if it doesn't contribute to winning.

  3. I'll keep insisting on this, but I believe it is feasible enough to try and have our young guys have meaningful minutes with close games that might result in wins. Connecting on that, I agree with Nunes that the .15 extra odds for getting the no. 1 pick as a bottom is statistically not too significant, so we shouldn't rely on tanking, but instead, smart drafting for ceiling and signing for productive fits. The Pacers didn't tank, and now they're contenders. Why can't we do the same? It is natural that these close and competitive games might have more veteran playing time, but the young guys can have a significant role off the bench and even slightly inflated once the starters have been subbed out. So much NBA players have attested to, and it has been seen, that having productive, and even legends on your roster is crucial to development both as producers and as professionals, one prime example being Charles Barkley.

I believe we need to do the hardest act of balancing everything, from youth development, to veteran presence, to actual two-way competence and competition. It's only natural and easier to focus on getting high draft picks and hoping for a quick floor rise or ceiling raise, but smart picking with what we do have, and especially smart moves, whether on draft night with trades, or strategic signings, is key to winning, with one prime recent example being the Pacers. This macro strategy will be the hardest, most complex, and difficult way of doing a rebuild, but it is the best way to go about this our future, not simply putting so much weight into one aspect of roster management.

  4. In fairness to Perry, many people though Schroeder (sp) and Westbrook were good signings at the time. We need to move DeRozan because of 1 reason: He is playing to well and we need losses.
