How Owner Robert Pera Almost Lost the Memphis Grizzlies | PTFO

What does being a “co-owner” to Memphis Grizzlies majority owner Robert Pera even mean? Why can’t a sports executive wear his team’s uniform? And what do the layoffs at Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post and Bari Weiss’ CBS News suggest about the business of journalism? Former Marlins president David Samson joins Pablo, one-on-one, to decode the sagas of the Memphis Grizzlies and mainstream media.

  1. Unfortunately the shape of his nose tells you everything you need to know.. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason he had to leave Apple was related to privacy and the small nation in the Middle East

  2. there is no bigger loser on the planet. you get 80-90 years on planet. pablo wastes his finding out who a 70 year guy is banging. sad

  3. The oligarch mantra: free market for thee but not for me.

Professional sports are a closed system. There is nothing remotely resembling a free market.

  4. At the end of the show Sampson proves yet that him, C-Suite folks, and other billionaires cannot separate the value and purpose of corporate departments.

But I did like him saying he likes a little mess at 17:32

  5. Another fake leftist promoting the US national security state and the interests of the corrupt and fascistic Kiev regime. Memphis is now my favorite NBA team. Congrats.

  6. So David "nepo groom" Sampson is a sociopath?!?… he should probably stop talking in public… if he doesn't want people to think he's a sociopath. And the reason he's so familiar with problematic bosses because his own father-in-law was one…

  7. I hope everyone is learning a stark lesson from this – do not let the charm of a David Sampson steer you away from the fact that you are dealing with a capitalist, a.k.a. a world-ending sociopath in waiting

  8. That's the inherent weakness in attaching people's healthcare and retirement to a job; it doesn't belong to the worker. Those 'benefits' are simply the crumbs leftover after the stakeholders have extracted the value out of the people who do the work.

  9. David Samson if i upload a video to youtube, is my competition Mr. Beast? Torres said, Donald Trump is one of the most transactional presidents and your response is “don’t call him the only transactional president” (????) Your bias is showing. Your faith and logic is misplaced and the saddest part is, even if someone rebutdtaled and proved each of his points wrong, he would respond with the simplest, illogical fallacy.

  10. David being a nepo baby explains so much dude was born into the managerial class and has never had to experience a friend being laid off or having to take a wage that does not truly reflect your value. Also not understanding why working class people don’t care about company stock price is insane. It’s hard to care about stock price when you are actively drowning living paycheck to paycheck.

  11. you know the sad part about old nepo babies that have had everything handed to them? they love to the blame the people, instead of the system that gave them everything. shows in this episode david

  12. He doesn't hate being the face of c suite. Lol. david is such a vampire.

  13. Get David off this show. He is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He literally is filled with contempt for poor people for regular people. He's intentionally dishonest with his argument. He treats private capital like it has a soul. And it ruins the show frankly.

  14. "just start a YouTube channel that's how you counter billionaires buying up all the centers of private capital and all of the media and censoring words they don't like and using it to fund elections and so on." Oh yeah sure cuz every lay person can afford the liability insurance and the staff and the legal vetting and can afford a legal battle with the most ritual richest spiteful people on the planet. Sure just dismantle institutions that have decades if not centuries of new gathering resources, unionized workers, best practices, ethical guidelines , a direct separation of advertising and editorial. None of this exists on YouTube David Sampson you simple man.

  15. Why can't this show just get to the point? Or cut the vid so the title matches the video

  16. David thinks it’s no biggie that CBS news is being run by a stooge plant? That social media platforms target certain content, not for correction or even censorship, but for hiding information, promoting propaganda. The all mighty dollar is his North Star

  17. Can you find another corporate bootlicker to interview? Sampson's shtick is old.

  18. Samson is the embodiment of "earnings per share." He doesn't even care that a free press has a purpose beyond making money.

  19. Seems relevant that so far the CBS news changes have been tanking ratings, which refutes Samson’s point. The Ellisons are happy losing aware viewers if can get their ideology in front of randos who don’t know what changed.

  20. The decline of traditional media and independent journalism was 95% a decision made by the New York Times corporation. The call is now coming from inside the house

  21. 41:15 What Samson is missing, maybe purposefully, is WaPo lost subscribers when Bezos started toying with reporting and opinion pieces. The owner’s actions hurt the business and now they’re/he’s cutting the sports section.

  22. The whole paradox of this BS is that all of this is being done to – at least in the dogma – is for "maximization of shareholder value". However, as the skinflint operations degrade the product, and the content becomes more and more unwatchable, the stock will eventually crash and burn…What's happening here is economic cancer brought to bear by unregulated capitalism – otherwise known as kleptocracy…

  23. David's counterargument is the classic "aha you criticize capitalism but you use an iPhone, checkmate communist". The beneficiary of the status quo is most empowered to uphold it. I dont have any real money in a 401k and im probably going to work until I die, but I should really be happy that a minority of wealth holders are doing well under the current arrangement

  24. The transactional nature of the presidency is the big problem with this administration because that’s why Trump wanted the gig and it is exclusively how he is using the gig. Being cynical about history is no excuse to ignore crime. If you see a man in chains, you take away the chains. You don’t assume chains are inevitable. Doing so makes you complicit in the slaving.

  25. Why he has not moved to Las Vegas? Especially now that he is multiple times richer than when he bought the team and he has multiple years of ownership experience.

  26. And ya dt think liberal bias is in Washington……
Bill belicheck not in hall of fame smashes your logic not compromised

  27. Samson being okay with the transactional part of the trump regime is demented. He's being gifted jets FFS. Most presidents were cunts, but this is something else.

  28. luv ya Pablo… luv your work and speaking truth to power…. BUT everyone mourned the loss of the Encyclopedia Britannica when the Internet came along and buried it just like Passan is mourning the loss of the WP sports dept…. so I cringe when saying this but, "I agree with Sampson". ew

  29. When I see Manning in the thumbnail of a PTFO report…I start to worry and my thought process immediately goes to "Please don't that this one happy thing from me."

  30. How about just tell the truth ……Biden let to many people in by far ….trump is over correcting ….. the difference no one voted for Biden to open border
    Truth

  31. Maybe I just haven't got to that yet in the episode, but could David explain how the Golden Knights were allowed then to be started as a new team rather than a move? As they are actually the only real successful team to come out of Vegas for the very reason that they were started from scratch and didn't take another city's team.

  32. Like watching Woodward and Bernstein podcasting on a set created with fluorescent spray paint. Has unearthed more scandals then the 'top 5' so-called news outlets…combined. Now the question, will anything change?

  33. Is it possible that these changes we see with the major “news” outlets are inevitable once they reduce themselves to being nothing more than a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party?? 🤔
