How The Modern Game Left Trae Young Behind
Trae Young was once one of the best players in the NBA. So what happened? We talk about why he ended up getting traded and why there was such little perceived value.

Jalen Johnson happened. Thats why the Hawks did not have
Chemistry. Trea 40 points 15 assists,he is not the problem. The problem is that too many cooks in the kitchen
I said the hawks should've traded him the off-season after they made the ECF
I am a very happy Hawks fan who's happy about our future without, Swaggy Trae.
If the wizards max him ..Smh
As an Hawks fan, everything said in this video is sadly true. His decline in speed and iso situations has been steep ever since 2022
TY human turnstile
Here’s something to think about – Atlanta effectively traded Luka Doncic for Kevin Knox, CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, while Dallas traded Trae Young, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris for AD, Max Christie and a 2029 FRP… what a crazy business the NBA is
For an NBA player he’s built like a twig so it’s not surprising he gets picked on defensively
“Not the best passer” and it’s Jalen Johnson lol
FAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
His shooting numbers have been declining ever since the 2021 post season run that put him on the map. In 2022 he commented how the regular season was boring and that’s the curse imo lol.
Hmmm this power of isolation? Both the grizzlies and heat are mediocre teams playing uninspired basketball.
I think modern basketball is how OKC plays to let shay get to his spots and see how the court opens for himself or his teammates or how Indy did it with Tyrese or even the cookie cutter way that the Lakers win games with Luka or what the Knicks run with Brunson.
Even the warriors motion offense with Steph is figured out and the Spread style with Giannis doesn't work without great 2 way players like Khris and Jrue.
I think Trey needs to learn how to catch and shoot off ball or the Wizards need to build an offense that goes back to being helio like what the clippers do with kawhi and harden or the way the Celtics use Brown copying what Detroit does with Cade. But because of Trey's lack of size on defense and his lack of court awareness to help away from the ball, they need to sub him in and out a few times during the quarter and run a different offense without him
You can’t teach height. 😢
This the dumbest shii I ever seen😭 stop tryna get views so hard, dude about to come back from injury averaging 25 and 10
I'm so glad I don't want to watch this bum play anymore. I can't wait Jalen Johnson era He's so fun to watch.
But the one person I want to get rid of that damn coach f** glasses Quinn.
At least make some positive mentions about his game, this is such negative-degrading slop disguised as analysis. Do better
Steph bulking up definitely extended his career.
Trae is Harden but half a foot shorter. These one dimensional players just don't work
fake star. there's a bunch of them. Sabonis, Lavine, Markkanen, Derozan, etc etc et fkn c. Soon there will be enough of them signed for long term high $$$$$ contracts that it will stand to sink the ship as TV ratings continue to fade away. 3 balls all game isn't good basketball to watch. These assholes are stoned out there airmailing free throws on the regular
Anybody can make a 5 minute video of a NBA player missing shots… 🤡 … I’m not a Wizards fan but they will be good next year. Who made this post ? A NY fan?
Damn man he used to be a top 5-10 offensive player in the league. It’s sad to see he’s lost a half step at only 27.
The second half of his freshmen season at Oklahoma carried over to the NBA. He’s going to shoot and score a lot but not much winning. Could have been more successful if he was focused on being a playmaker rather than a bucket-getter
If he scored more consistently like he used too, the defense liability would be okay too a extent
Bruh got the most punchable face out of anybody. He looks like the type you wanna smack the fuck out of, just because
I feel like “outlier” players are picked on the most by media analysis and commentary, but the truth is that Trae is just injured, and that could happen to anybody.
Saying the league has left him behind while praising the likes of Brunson and Luka means that surely you’ll be making the same arguments about them soon, right? Yea, I doubt it. The league is “leaving behind” a different play-style every time the season changes, and it comes back before most even notice it’s gone.
This just feels like a video that’s trying to justify a truly baffling move from the Hawks, and using lazy narratives to try to do so. “He’s small” “he doesn’t play defense” “he’s inefficient” and yet at his best he’s still a top playmaker in the league who can create offense from thin air. He’ll recover from injury, go back to being the best, and continue proving his doubters wrong, which is what he’s been doing since draft night 2018.
The Hawks had Dejounte Murray for on-ball and Trae for off-ball… Trae was just too stubborn to go off-ball at the time 😭
I'll never forget Hawks fans trying to gaslight people into thinking Trae was getting better at defense because he "tries" while at the same time calling Haliburton a worse defender. Fun times…
did bro include BLUESKY screenshots in his youtube video 😂😂
idk about this, trae young is slower yes but that’s cuz of his injury but it’s still a lil much saying jalen johnson is better than trae in isolation
what happened? he lost his explosiveness due to wear and tear so defenders closed up to him without worrying about his penetration which in turn drove down his iso shot %. This happened to Chris Paul after his first 5 years, who went to play a much muddier style. All in all, small guards must be able to put pressure on the rim to be a superstar. Just shooting is not enough. Even Steph Curry.
So height does matter
One thing with Trae was he never was an elite outside shooter, but when he got hot he was pretty hard to stop from that range.
Didn't realize he slowed down like that either. Not a big fan of him, but hopefully he's able to bounce back with the Wizards.
6:24 I tried to teach every kid today this layup off a crossover move. It's such a powerful move in the old days and even more so in this era, yet you don't see it anymore
Steph adapted by bulking up
That whole offense is more important than defense narrative doesn't mean you can opt out of playing defense entirely. Opposing teams catch on to everything so you have to at least be solid. Spurs fans were so nervous for a while there when media people like Bill Simmons were predicting Tre to the Spurs and giving the Hawks their picks back.
man poor tre , he used to be that guy back in the day
His off and on offense doesn’t make up for his weak defense
He would only work on the Spurs where Wemby could cover his major flaws on defense.
Traded for a hot dog, and a cup of ice water.
Players today make way too much money to care about getting better
Plain and simple Trae is a good NBA player…and the league is full of good NBA players. No team is gonna drool over him tho…his defense is real bad too 😂
i was thinking yea hes to small but then realized steph is only two inches taller, but steph works for every shot he takes trae kinda just wanders, the smaller you are the more you have to prove your value offensively and trae just isnt fighting for that
He called Luke Top 5 player in the WORLD and said Trae defense is underated 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 HAHAHAHAHAHA
Trae Young's offensive ability has not declined.
The main reason Trae Young advanced to the Conference Finals was that the three opposing teams employed drop defense.
After that, he was completely shut down by Miami, who utilized a variety of defensive schemes, and that Miami defense has become the standard in the NBA today.
