Last night it was a great win with a real statment over Houston. The Spurs managed to score 72 points in the paint to one of the best defense !!
However the Spurs continue to struggle from the perimeter (25% at 3).
I agree with you. I don't see the Spurs being a contender this season (mainly for this reason) despite our current seed in the western conference (like Houston last season who finished 2nd seed but that nobody was seeing a winner of a playoff serie).
But seeing this young "armada" at the allstar week-end means that the Spurs are in the right direction !!

It’s crazy to say they are not a contender, lol. They beat OKC 3 of 4 so far. They might not be the favorite but to say they are not a contender is nuts. They could definitely come out on top this year.
Carter Bryant in the dunk contest is a joke. At one point, he missed 8 strait dunks until finally he got one. So what did the NBA do? They gave him a spot in the dunking contest. That has to be the biggest joke in the history of the dunk contest. Yeah, yeah, yeah, his measurements and all. But he has baby hands and can't hold on to the ball when he goes for a dunk.
I'll tell you who can win that contest hands down and he doesn't even play for the NBA. Michigan States COEN CARR. He boast a 52 inch vertical (even higher than Jordan's 50 inch vertical). But it's the devasting power dunks that amazes people. Vince Carter has nothing on CARR. In fact, I would choose Coen Carr over MJ and VC, in a dunk contest. Go check him on on YouTube highlights. INFREEKIN CREDIBLE POWER DUNKS.
Can the Spurs use one of their two 2nd round picks, just to grab him up, just so he can put on a show once in a while. I would pay big money for that.

Your take on Harrison Barnes is way off. The best NBA teams over the years have almost always been better than the sum of their parts. If Harrison Barnes low reb totals were all that terrible why are the Spurs second in the West in Drebs and total Rebs. He's logged the most total minutes since he joined the Spurs and hasn't missed a game. The best ability is availability. He's third on the team(last I looked) in total +/- Barnes provides skills that dovetail well with the rest of the roster that will be hard to find in any other player (for a reasonable price). Wemby will be illegible for a max rookie extension this year. Champagnie will be elligible for an extension this Summer. Then next season comes Castle, season after Harper. The Spurs would be better off trying to find a player who won't break the bank who can backup Wemby/Kornet/Barnes. Bobby Portis would be perfect if they can pry him away from the Bucks. If they can get Portis I think they can contend for Western Conference Championship.
The all star weekend is only for showboating the players skills & promoting a team…wemby should take a page out of kemp's skill he's a tough guy to guard castle can learn some skills from the glove..harper,carter can learn from manu

Crazy how years ago we had zero representation in the all star weekend how times have turned around
my main issue with Mitch is not giving more opportunities to DJG and allowing opposing teams (with the aid of refs) to get back in the game and collapse big leads by not challenging obvious bs calls. Get fired up, get tossed!..whatever it takes to stop these huge swings in momentum! I want some nasty!

Its because of his dunk performance recently that Carter wants to do the dunk contest to prove he can dunk. I think coach said he gets teased for his missed dunks because the team knows he can make them. I think this will be a great experience for him
