Celtics make PERFECT trade to acquire Nikola Vucevic from Bulls for Anfernee Simons

Jason reacts to the Boston Celtics acquiring Nikola Vucevic from the Chicago Bulls for Anfernee Simons and explains why it’s such a smart move to add talent around Jaylen Brown and eventually Jayson Tatum.

  1. Every Cs fan should watch this clip. 100% accurate and obvious to me (as a Cs fan). Will miss Anferno but no way we’d retain for any $ that made sense for our books. Vuc fills a need at the right price.

  2. Vucevic is the best option for Boston. We don't need a pure scorer with JT back. we need a C who can space the floor and have a good shoot of 3

  3. Vuc is basically just an upgrade over Garza. Big respect for Garza though. He’s shooting the lights out from 3 and he’s an elite offensive rebounder. His pick-and-pop game with Pritchard in this last Mavs game was absolutely lethal. All this to say, with Garza around (and with the C’s track record of player development), Vuc may be a shorter-term option than you realize, Jason

Curious how the C’s manage the PF position with these Queta/Vuc looks. If Vuc is starting, I’d like to see him paired with Walsh over Hauser. We’ll need that length / extra rim protection and recovery speed on D.

Anyway, props to you, JT, for calling this trade months ago. You’re my favorite analyst in the game because you understand both the hoop side and the financial side of the game. You know you’re doing something right if you make the same deal that Brad Stevens does

  4. I must’ve been the only Celtics fan that wanted Vuc 😅. He’s a stretch big that can rebound which is EXACTLY what we need now. Brad a genius 🙌🏾

  5. Vuc and Simmons are both poor defenders. I'd much rather have a bad defending big than a bad defending guard. You can't teach size!

  6. I love trade. I like Simons, but his game was not particularly complementary. I am also looking forward to a lot of double big sets. Pritchard's return to the sixth man role is a clear indication that Joe is leaning that way.

  7. not a fan of this trade vuc is 35 doesn't fit the timeline long term, is a defensive liability, Simmons fits the jt, jb, dw timeline was getting to serviceable level defensively. also think with the aprons in place he wasn't going to demand what he was making this year and we would have probably resigned im in the 12 to 15 mil a year deal for 2 to 3 years

the celtics have gotten along with reclamation projects at center and with the track record of kornet the last several years and the jump queta has done over the last 3 years i felt good with it and see what we could get next season to fill in the roster

  8. The fans complaining about losing Simons are often the same ones who complained when the C's traded for him in the first place. It's not about Simons being good. It's about the coaching staff being great.

  9. My guess is Stevens spoke with Tatum and asked if Tatum would be comfortable coming off the bench for a time in the same role as Simons and when Tatum said yes Stevens moved Simons.

  10. Great breakdown, I totally agree. Vucevic adds what the Celtics needed. Rebounding, inside scoring, and a floor stretching big. Simons was good, but with Tatum coming back, his role was gonna be reduced.

  11. I was skeptical at first but he’s on a one year and is a really good player. Could move Garza back to the 4 in some line ups to combat some other teams double-big lineups, and can split mins with Neemie. If the fit is good, I’m sure we could sign him to a 2-3 year deal this summer also, probably for a reasonable(ish) price

  12. The real key to this trade is clearing minutes for scheirman Walsh and gonzalez …. those guys have proven they can play and needed more minutes

  13. The Celtics traded a young Dame Lillard for a plodding slug of a backup center. They're not as good today as they were yesterday.

  14. Celtics fan don't realize how much better Vuc will be on this team then Simons.

  15. Hated to lose Simons, but excited to see what Vucevic can do and how he fits in with our team.
And I totally trust our front office. These guys are geniuses.
    But we'll see what happens!
