James Harden Will CHANGE The Cavaliers

James Harden is now a Cleveland Cavalier. That is something i never thought i’d be able to say. For better or worse, he will have an impact on this iteration of the Cavs. Let’s break it down.

  1. Something felt off all year, not just the injuries. I don't blame them for trying to fix it.
Time will tell if it will work, but I'm personally more excited and optimistic than I was pre trades.
This is coming from someone who literally bought a Garland jersey this year, which I don't regret.

  2. The shooting talent around him in Cleveland is night and day from LAC. His efficiency will absolutely come up and he averages over 10 assists a game easily the rest of the year

  3. I’ve successfully gaslit myself into thinking this deal is good for the Cavs and you should too! lol 🥲

On a serious note, I think he fits much better than Garland on defense, especially this season. Last season, Garland’s mixture of speed and ability to hold up on switches was necessary. This season, I think the Cavs have great guard defense but lack size for big wings. Harden is a big defensive upgrade over Garland especially in a Pistons series because Harden can guard Tobias. Tobias is generally stationary and benefits from being a mismatch option against scrambled defenses or against small guards. Harden can not only guard Tobias’ post-ups but doesn’t have to be put in action a lot and isn’t particularly close as a low-man. It outright solidifies my trust that Cleveland could guard Detroit in a series.

Against Boston…yikes (it won’t be worse than Garland at least). Against NY he still has some options to hide onto like O.G and Hart given his rebounding ability.

On offense, Harden completely solidifies the Mobley-Allen pairing playing together again in big minutes. That’s the only way for the Cavs to succeed anyways so it’s good that they can comfortably go back to that look. Having both of the bigs be mismatch options and heavy interior threats will punish any team that tries to not play double bigs against Cleveland which leads to the dilemma of either having enough spacing to score or having enough size to defend.

Also, I think Harden is definitively fitter and better this season than last season. Honestly, my concerns with Harden start in the finals, not really in the east.

  4. Just a point to be made I think he chose Cleveland because he wants out of the pure point guard role, but that doesn’t mean he won’t go away from his play making ways it’s just gonna be a more Houston/brooklyn w/o KD play making style

  5. I felt a lot better when i heard he makes bigs better. We are pretty much unstoppable when we play through our bigs. Also, mobley needs an OG to kick him to another level. Hopefully harden can do that for him
