The LaMelo Experiment Is Paying Off…
The Charlotte Hornets are on their longest win streak in franchise history, thanks to the great play of Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, but most importantly, LaMelo Ball has been playing some of the best basketball of his career. While his counting stats may be down across the board, LaMelo has been running the show on offense, being a great playmaker and pace-setter, getting everyone involved and drawing lots of attention through pick and rolls with Moussa Diabate, who has also been tremendous on the defensive side of the ball.
The Hornets have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA this season, and currently are moving their way up through the standings in the Eastern Conference, finally having everyone at full strength. Can they push their way up to a secured playoff spot? Or is this just a “fluke run” from a team looking to make another appearance in the draft lottery?

theres a 50/50 chance that im saying sum bullshit but yk how theres players where their numbers doesnt really show their impact? lamelo is the only example i can think of where you could argue that his impact actively makes his numbers worse. Although he is more disciplined now, he still has the reputation that he will shoot that mf from anywhere, and sometimes he will make it, just the audacity shoot from such weird angles as much as he has historically means teams have to defend him from way deep, this means that he stretches out the defense using a shot that hinders his efficiency simply because its so often contested, 36% from 3 isnt that good for someone known to be extremely talanted at shooting but look at how players are made to defend his shots, makes passing much easier especially for someone like him. we genuinely have no idea what his actual efficiency would be if he only took easier, obvious shots, the closest things i can think of to measure "unconstested shots" is free throw % which isnt a great measure, but 95% in january is still 95% in january that mf can shoot. oddly his shot selection remids me a bit of mpj if he could actually pass the ball more often
