Having watched Detroit as well all season they might be the most difficult match-up in a series vs SA. I think they got everyone else's number personally.
Detroit went to the playoffs as a 6 seed last season. How is their turn around greater than the Spurs who ,not only didn't go to the playoffs, but are the 2 seed on a much more competitive conference. They've already more games this season as they did last season.
To D Brown, we overextend Wemby throughout the game having him go 1:1 all the time. He gets gassed starting his set at the 3pt line against defenses when we rely on him too much (see it a lot, Timberwolves losses it was bad). He needs to change up his touches more throughout the game, which he has been lately. Not forcing shots or giving turnovers when double and triple teamed, passing better, posting more, and not trying to take guys 1:1 the entire game and wearing himself down.

Vassell's absence and return show how important he is to this team. So much better with him. Despite some flaws hes a rather good defender and one of three people who can go get you a bucket when you need one no matter what (vic, fox, vassell… and il even say Keldon)
Imagine if the 96 Bulls were there in the East in 2026 and you tell Michael Jordan : "The Spurs are going to win the championship this year". MJ would laugh out loud, almost choke while drinking whiskey, remember your comment for months for spoiling his drink godammit, take it personal and, during the playoffs, he would take his sweet revenge: he would take pleasure in crushing Castle in defense in the 1st half, then he would switch to Wemby in the 2nd half and score 39 with the flu after playing golf in the morning, and he would repeat it 3 more times so you never dare saying this again.
But the good news for SA in 2026 is this: there is no MJ, no 96 Bulls, no 2000 Lakers, no 2008 Celtics, no 2018 Warriors, etc, etc… There are plenty of excellent teams in 2026, and not a single great one…
So why not win it all?
Well, the Spurs are excellent, but not great yet either. They still lack offensive and defensive consistency and still haven’t found a definitive trustworthy offensive identity. Can they find it during the playoffs? I doubt it.
And even if they find it, the lack of offensive rebounds might be fatal against Denver, Minnesota, OKC or Detroit.
So, unless there is a miracle, no, probably not this year. But who knows? In any case, it would probably require that Vic, Stephon or De'Aaron rise to Michael Jordan's level in the finals, and before at least twice in any 7 games series. How likely is this?
Devin, you probably won’t read this but you and your father played a big part in my life growing up in the west side of San Antonio. It’s hard to see any success around you. That isn’t illegal growing up as a Mexican around these parts but being the only Mexican kid at CJ‘s barbershop between 90 and Marbach and seeing you pull up in your Hummer and your dad run an amazing business for the community showed me how to do the same. I’m going on two years of running my own business off of Culebra Road, not too far from the barbershop thank you for coming back to the hood and just being there showed us it was possible…. And if you do remember, I was the only Mexican little kid in there getting designs and cornrows.😂
You guys forgot last year Detroit was playoff team. Spurs was lottery team. Mitch and Wemby completely change the narrative this year. Before the start you guys put spurs in borderline playin do not forgot. We can push for the 1st seed in the west then we will see…
Before Jokic injury we will better team, we beat OKC and change the narrative about the best team ever. For me Mtch is COTY and Wemby the real MVP. THE GUY COMING FROM BLOOD CLOT, A CAREER ENDING RISK… THEN PUT THE LEAGUE ON NOTICE IN THE FIRST GAME, AFTER THAT EVERY NIGHT FACING JORDAN RULES NEVER COMPLAINING LIKE LUKA, JOKIC OR SENGUN EVEN LEBRON OR SGA. Mitch coach of the year instead of JB. Pistons made the playoffs last year the Spurs only won 34 games last year pistons won 44 games so who had the better turn around. 2 say JB did and stats prove different. 😅😅😅 good show
How much better will the team be after we play last 28 regular season games? The team is growing and we are now healthy so we really building chemistry working with our starters and rotations. Contention is not primarily where we are now, but what we can grow into when Carter Bryant becomes a true rotational player.
6-7yrs of Spurs Dark Ages am so glad were talking about them being title contenders now. glad they overachieved this year fr, they will be a target come playoff positioning being a young team.. rather have them continue to surprise everyone. Sad whatever happened with JS but glad he is free now, that Knicks 3/1 game gonna be fire, imagine him irritating Wemby all while smiling 😛 GSG!
Totally agree with DB. The Spurs season is Gold or Fools Gold? They are finally beating teams they are supposed to beat but not consistently. They are beating teams in many cases that are playing without their key players. The Spurs are very good but not proven yet. We will see their weakness or missing players when the playoffs start. They should be a lot better next season and hopefully continue to improve.
