Pinning all responsibility on your players instead of yourself as the coach is a coward move. Either you're not preparing them the correct way or you're not recruiting properly or you're not setting a good standard. However throwing teenage students under the bus to cover your own failure as a leader and Coach is a pathetic move.

Anything can happen in the playoffs. The season only determines what seed you get and if you get to keep playing instead of golfing. I've seen teams in the NHL win the President's Trophy with the best record and still got bounced in the first round.
