I think shutting down Sabonis and Lavine for the season was the right move even if it was probably better for Coach Christie to have them play a bit.
That would given him real scrimmages against starting level opponents which is very different than a training camp where you are going against each other.
One of the reasons The Kings may have started slowly was not only not having Keegan Murray available to start, but not having Russ in camp or preseason at all.
I think Sabonis was also banged up in camp?
I think nba training camps where the talent is strong are usually better suited to getting off to good starts.
With so many young players, none of which are high level young players and older veterans, The Kings in my view, didn't get strong enough scrimmages.
Having a guy like Russ in camp from the beginning could have helped with that a bit.
Coach Lue talked about how Russ had a strong impact on their training camp in 23/24(still didn't understand Gm Frank trading for Harden but oh well)
Same thing with Coach Malone in Denver.
He credited Russ with setting a standard in training camp in 24/25
If i were Gm Scott Perry i am definitely trying to get Russ back in a Kings uniform for 26/27 with a full training camp with Coach Christie and his staff.
