The OKC Thunder fell to Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and the new-age bad boy Detroit Pistons, 124-116. But taking on the NBA Eastern Conference’s top seeded squad…VERY shorthanded…on the back end of a back to back? Not a bad showing, especially from young Cason Wallace. In fact, this was the third straight 20 point game from the third year guard out of the University of Kentucky. Missing the reigning 2025 Kia NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), All-NBA Jalen Williams (JDub), Defensive Player of the Year candidate and 2026 NBA All-Star Chet Holmgren, Ajay Mitchell, the red-hot Isaiah Joe, and more, it was assumed that OKC’s offense would struggle to put points on the board. But over these last few games, with both key (and the majority of) OKC players out, the 10th overall pick in the lottery of the 2023 NBA Draft has shown glimpses of greatness. As OKC Thunder faithful, we knew this young gem was already among the best at locking down the perimeter. But Cason Wallace is showing growth and consistency in three point shooting, scoring off the dribble, and playmaking for others…something that has been a large struggle as of late for Lu Dort. The longest tenured Thunder, fans are familiar with the Canadian Dort’s streakiness, especially from behind the arc. Today, Gabriel Ebersole lays out why Mark Daigneault and Sam Presti need to take advantage of the obvious upgrade…because it’s sitting right under their nose, in the form of 22 year old Cason Wallace.

i love dort but he gotta go i always knew caso should of started since last season
OKC needs to start Caso or Ajay moving forward.
Mark has so many lineups to pick from but either way once the squad is healthy this change would pay massive dividends.

Fans need to chill. Dort is a starter for a reason. Several bench players are worthy to be starters but they can't all be starters. Everyone has a role in their path to gain a second ring. Let the organization do what they are doing and trust the process. Support the team. Stop spreading negativity. The moment they mess up, "fans" turn against them…us okc true fans are not like that. We know that everyone has days off, but every players has a role to play while okc persues that ring. They are a team. Be patient and stop giving them bad vibes. We need our bench to be deep because our starters will eventually succumb to stress, injury, and tiredness. For that time, the bench will come out and win games. They got this, even if they loose one or two games.
Once the time comes, if OKC has to choose to keep one player, or keep both, OKC will make the right choice. I trust their moves and I will wait for their move. As for now, Dort is a starter for a reason.
Why waste time suggesting and complaining about players and moving rotations. You are not the coaches, your opinion will not be taken into consideration so why complaint and stress over this? Learn to trust the process.
This is soo frustrating. It is exactly like when okc was rebuilding and every ones was complaining about players being sent to the g-league to play. I was like…guys…you are looking just at the puzzle piece and not at the big picture. The players are being developed in there. When they come back, their game is better, you could tell if you just watch the games, even if they are loosing the games they are showing improvement. Look at the bigger picture.

We NEED Dort as a starter these playoffs man…when we’re fully healthy he is not gonna need to do the things cason has been doing well recently. We just need him to shoot decent and lock down/hustle. And if he comes off the bench, that kinda defeats his whole purpose of guarding the other teams best guard. Cason and ajay coming off the bench is best for the team rn imo.
But I totally agree long term, I think Dort is gone this summer and we keep Cason/Caruso.

Those fans just dont know ball. We need Dort, essentially we dont normally request Dort to make points because we have like SGA,J dub, Chet, Dont forget the main reason hes on that team, we need him to injure players like Wemby in playoffs

Is this a joke? Mitchell should be starting for Dort and that should have happened months ago. Wallce has had a few really good games but he's not even remotely close to Mitchell. Did you not watch Mitchell when JDub was out or something? He was averaging 17/4/4 and helped lead us to a 25-1 record.

The thunder need to start worrying more about firing their strength and conditioning coach and getting one that can keep their players out on the court. The strength and conditioning coach for the thunder is the worst in the NBA.
Why tf would we want Caso starting? So he can stand in the corner to brick a three? He belongs in his own lineup so he can facilitate like he’s capable of doing
Dort is not a starting level player for the Thunder. Earlier this year, I was convinced Cason Wallace should start over him since he’s obviously better.
Now I am aware that Wiggin should start over both of them.
JWill should also start and iHart should be Ajays pickNroll Partner while JWill spreads the floor for SGA.
Cason Wallace is a COMBO GUARD (PG/SG) and Lu Dort is a WING (G/F). There are things Caso does well and there are things Lu does well. There are things Caso can do that Lu can't and there are things that Lu can do and Caso can't. We need them both Thunder fans. To sit there and totally compare them both is ASININE and ILLOGICAL. We all know that Lu isn't the offensive threat that Caso is but Lu is a physical dawg that disrupts and agitates opponents with his bulky size and tenacious, while Caso is swift and agile. Having them both is a blessing but most of yall are getting too wrapped up in Lu's offensive flaws when you should be praising him for his All NBA defensiveness capabilities. Come playoff time they will both get meaningful minutes to help contribute the Thunder getting that second ring…that's just how deep we are.
