Humongous shoutout to Charles Lee and the staff. The guys have completely bought in. They’ve been magicians figuring out exactly how much LaMelo Ball’s body can handle without overplaying him. That kind of management is not easy, and it’s paying off.
I really think we need to consider the possibility that this team is even better than what we’ve seen over the last 20 games. Melo and Brandon Miller have improved their efficiency, but they’re still not at true All Star efficiency yet. Once they reach that level, this team could legitimately score 130+ a night.
This has the potential to be one of the most dynamic, explosive offenses we’ve ever seen, and I don’t say that lightly. We have three snipers who can each drop 20+ on the same night without taking away from one another, and then you add Coby and Miles, who can give you at least 30 combined every single night. It becomes overwhelming for defenses.
The biggest X factor right now is Moose. He opens up the court with his offensive rebounding threat alone. I’d love to see a breakdown of how Moose creates open shots just by being on the floor, without even setting a screen. It’s insane. When he crashes into the paint, the defense collapses almost like Giannis Antetokounmpo is down there, obviously for a different reason, but the effect is similar in how it warps the defense.
I truly believe this Hornets offense could be the next revolutionary system with all the guard to guard screening. That only works if you have elite passers like Melo, and it absolutely doesn’t work without high IQ screeners like Brandon and Kon. They consistently read the defense perfectly.
