  1. Look in the Randle naz McDaniels Clarke minutes. I’m sure they did some of this. It strikes me as a number problem. You don’t want any or Julius on ball cause they’re a combination of not interested and carrying a lot on offense. Rudy ain’t it so then Dante has to play 40 minutes on ball. Nah I think it’ll be matchup depending and probably mix in more than adopted

  2. Glad you were able to single Randle out for getting blown by..mentioning it twice. Definitely not enough samples of Naz getting blown by…

  3. he played a bunch as the rim guy in the middle during the non-rudy minutes when the wolves had injury trouble in december and played a bunch of zone — found it super interesting

  4. Is there any way to quantify that rim stoppers are more impactful to team defense than POA defenders? You mentioned it but it came across as a gut feeling.

  5. You have the most insightful observations and logical recommendations. I appreciate your videos! I wish that Finch and Nori would take your advice.

  6. Makes sense that we have had success defending the Nuggets because Ant and Nickeil defended Jamal basically all the time, allowing Jaden to be great off ball. One of the few matchups where that’s the case, though to their credit, I think Jaden has had less on ball responsibility since last February when he had a bigger offensive load.

  7. Does anybody else notice how effortless Jaden scoring looks? Julius looks like he’s having a hard time getting his points most of the time, while Jaden has the most nonchalant jumpshot mid range fades. I don’t understand how Finch doesn’t look at these obvious issues and doesn’t want to solve them.

  8. Sounds like we should cross our fingers for a monster run from Jaylen Clark at the end of the regular season and he plays in the playoffs and guards the ball a bunch.

  9. In addition I think Jaden would have less fouls in the role you describe, which keeps him on the court to make his impact. How many times have we seen him pick up a couple early fouls and be taken out of the game because he was matched up on FTMs and highly skilled and athletic guards.

  10. Jaden needs to be used as the second scoring option behind ant, he is better then Randle in everyway other then strength.

  11. I think most defenders are less effective as on ball defenders especially since the emphasis in the NBA weighs heavily in favor of scoring. The ticky tack fouls so many players get is disgusting in my opinion and is frankly making NBA basketball less watchable.

  12. Jaden is an ok point of attack defender but he's a phenomenal weak side help defender and shot blocker. Why is finch forcing him to navigate screens and chase guards to no avail? That's where he picks up a lot of his ticky tack fouls smh

  13. I think so. I think one problem we have is that, we still don't have or develop yet the point of attack defender wing that we use to have in NAW, that allowed McDaddy to rest sometimes and be more off the ball and weakside sometimes. I guess Clark was the idea that the team have for that role but they are developing him slow.

Lets see if Clark gets that role and we develop him in that role, its going to be important.

  14. Great breakdown! Jaden often gets beat off the dribble, but can sometimes make up for it with his length. His true defensive prowess is exactly as you point out. That could also help him stay out of fouls trouble more too.

  15. Jaden is a great defender. But we would do him so much more justice if we adjusted his assignments here and there. Like you can see where he isnt as effective against certain faster players. I have noticed this since no one on the planet was able to stop luka. Like there is certain matchups where he and even our team, i believe, would be even better defensively if he played off ball defense more and let other defenders for parts of games get some of these assignments. And then in late game situations, gives their primary offensive player a different flavor and McDaniel's can be really effective.

  16. 1000% agree. thats why i felt losing NAW was so hurtful to the team. Mcdaniels isnt a bad POA defender, but you can see it he’s exhuasted at the end of the game. We need another NAW type player

  17. I always felt Jaden was an overrated on ball defender. He’s always gotten torched by elite level guys, so I think he’s just been an average on ball defender. He seems to be much better off the ball. There are certain people he can clamp down around the perimeter, however. Coaching staff needs to figure it out.
