The NBA’s Tanking Crackdown Could CHANGE EVERYTHING for the Phoenix Suns

The NBA’s Tanking Crackdown Could CHANGE EVERYTHING for the Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns could be one of the biggest winners if the NBA finally takes a serious stance against tanking — and it might change everything about how teams build and compete moving forward.

In this episode of *Southwest Bias*, Espo breaks down the three proposals in front of owners and why a potential league-wide crackdown on tanking isn’t just a rule change — it could completely reshape the competitive landscape in a way that benefits the Suns.

We dive into:

– What the NBA’s most aggressive anti-tanking rules could actually look like
– Why those changes would favor teams like the Suns
– How Phoenix has operated differently from teams that lean into losing for draft position
– The long-term impact this could have on roster building, playoff races, and league parity

If the NBA truly cracks down, it could reward teams that took risks with their draft picks and put them back on competitive footing even though they may have already leveraged their future.

Is this the moment the league finally shifts away from tanking? And could it give the Suns a real edge moving forward?

  1. if they flatten the odds more like they're proposing it only benefits teams that traded for more picks. Makes sense why teams like OKC would heavily lobby for these changes.

  2. I don't know how the Arizona Wildcats football uniforms from 2013 to 2020 didn't crack the list. Those were awful, and looked like late 90's FUBU rip offs. Much worse than ASU's pitchfork jerseys, but the flaming helmets were bad. I agree with you there.

As for why the Suns had those cut-off jerseys from 2000 to 2013, they were made to resemble their practice jerseys in the late 90's. If you recall, the players wore gray cut off shirts underneath their white and purple practice jerseys at that time. Whoever came up with that design just added a v-neck and thought they were onto something.
