Just let the picks be decided by the wins you earn after you are unable to reach the playoffs. It also would inventivise people to keep watching after winnig it all isnt possible anymore.
For me, it's just simple. You add a monomum number of wins to be counted in the lottery. Make it say 25. If you reach that threshold, you qualify, and the odds work in standings order with all qualified teams. If you fail to make it, then you go to the back of the lottery odds.
The number one pick ain't even a guarantee at a superstar, look how many don't do much basketball wise. Look at how Sam Presti can make a second rounder into a top notch role player, or take a mid round first pick turning them into a superstar.
The issue isn’t the Nets and Wizard and Kings sucking. It’s the Nets, Wizards, Kings, Bulls, Pacers, Bucks, Jazz, Mavs, Pelicans, and Grizzlies all tanking. It’s literally “if I’m not in the play in why would I win games” except teams are saying “looks like we’re not competing” earlier and earlier. These solutions definitely aren’t it but I’d agree something maybe even something drastic has to happen
Listen to me. I come from Greece witch is a basketball powerhouse in Europe and people really love their teams. Only the fans can save a team from purposely sucking. If panathinaikos or olympiakos ever did that the whole stadium would burn to the ground . I know in Euro league there is no draft so there is no reason to purposely lose but the fans would rather see their team destroyed than embarrassed. I mean how can u be a nba fan of let's say pistons where 2-3 seasons ago they where in talks for worst team ever and now somehow are in title talks . This doesn't even make sense to me . Where is the pride of the team u love?if there is a salary cap and money isn't an issue why do we still reward teams for being trash on purpose? There is only a few teams with pride and a basketball identity left and u should protect them
Or just make every team have the same odds for getting the number 1 pick While we’re waiting to have the nba confirm Seattle and Vegas as expansion teams to make it 32 teams that means every team should have a 3,125 percent to get number 1 pick
I think the way the MLB does it is great if you are bad 2 years in a row or tank a couple years in a row you automatically don’t have a chance to get #1
And this is y I’ve given up on the nba. It’s all rigged . Teams tanking was never the problem until the lottery odds got outta control. The games aren’t worth watching anymore because everyone just chunks up 3’s and score over 120 points . And u got players like bam scoring 83 points . It was my favorite sport but the nba is just like the WWE ; entertainment. They’ll never publicly say or admit to it but thats what’s happened.
Every team plays each team at least 2 times so we count the 2 times they play if they play more than 2 times then it’s the first and last meeting
You get points when u beat a team and points are based off where they fall on the bell curve, based off of bell curve. Elite, above avg, avg, below average awful.
Depending on how far teams make it in the playoffs they would be worth more points.
At the end of the season u add up all the points and reput it into the bell curved based off of points and then redo the point accumulation.
Teams that make the playoffs are exempt from this ranking but they still get points.
The non playoff teams get placed in order from most points to best pick to least points to worst pick
Caveat is the 2 teams with the least amount of points get a bonus so instead of 15 points vs an elite team it would be 17 points or something. If the next year they’re the bottom two again then they get a double bonus.
This makes 59/82 games competitive and hard to tank.
The NBA needs to REMOVE THE lottery. But then they wouldn’t be able to rig the draft and have stars go to specific teams. The NFL figured it out long ago that the jets aren’t tanking they’re just the jets. No amount of top 3 picks will ever change that
It's tough because fans of too many teams have to watch teams tank consistently. There has to be some incentive to not be bad for years or even decades at a time. Like how do you convince a Kings fan to renew season tickets when they will just be a lottery team next year even with a high lottery pick this year? Tanking is the biggest issue the league faces right now because at its core, you have almost half the league deciding that winning isn't a priority. Anything the league does has to be a drastic change to the current system because small or incremental solutions are just going to make it worse and drive more fans away
Get rid of the lottery, picks decided by record and nothing else. Except that bad teams exist because there always gonna be one. We don’t live in a world full of OKCs. Do that and the league can heal.
Tanking is a media problem. Prospects are hyped up as generational saviors who will turn around a franchise within a year. GMs want these players for the optics to save their jobs. Most of the best players (Jokic, Giannis, Luka, etc) aren’t top picks.
I would just really love to see them all play a tourney for the #1 pick. Best 2/3 and seeding would be based on combined 2 year record. Ok cool tank in the season but on a year where good teams have good picks you’ll wanna win to avoid them and you’ll still have to build to compete with the other”bad” teams
The real solution is to do a nfl type hard cap and get rid of max contracts. This helps small market teams get guys cuz if u get the same amount of money are you going to Miami or Minnesota. So small market teams can pay more for big time players to be more competitive.
MY TAKE: bottom 3 teams are in a lottery for the top 3 picks with equal odds, but once the season ends and free agency opens, they lose access to their new future first.. the 3 future first rounders then get distributed via lottery or maybe tournament to 3 teams in the 17 – 25 range.
if youre saying tanking is not a problem its probably because you arent watching your favorite team lose on purpose. Some of them have gotten so blatant with it, sitting out stars, benching guys who get hot, literally giving the ball away. its unethical hoops and it is a huge problem to the NBA, maybe not to us, because it tarnishes the product. 6 tanking teams makes damn near 500 games no one wants to watch because it wont be competitive. And the blame should not be on Adam Silver, he’s in a strange position where he has harped on this issue for probably 5 years now and the owners are not cooperating. You can’t convince me the jazz dont have enough talent this year to be a competent team right NOW. So Adam Silver is looking for anything to dissuade teams other than explicitly telling them tanking wont be tolerated and fining
the only way to get rid of tanking entirely is to make the draft lottery all 30 some teams, balls are picked and that's the order of the draft, while also introducing a relegation system where the bottom 2-6 teams are relegated out of the NBA , and 2-6 other teams are allowed in. Something to that affect would work
The nba doesn’t understand that tanking is unavoidable and you only make it worse by preventing bad teams from getting premium draft prospects. All these scenarios do is make it easier for the 10 seed if they are bad to just give up on the season
The NBA is trying to flatten the odds so it’s easier to have good teams get higher picks in the draft. They want to big markets to have an easier time getting good picks. And flattening the odds make us look more possible when they give a team the #1 pick (like Dallas last draft)
A lot of these teams wouldn't tank this hard if they're actually allowed to build a team without some heavy consequence that is basically "all in or nothing" with all the risk and barely any benefits. These teams would rather go "all in or nothing" for years for the Drafts with barely any risks than gut their entire franchise. These teams are still driven by profit. Why in the world would they spend more when there's a way cheaper method to all of this
Doing the odds by wins after elimination is best way to do it. So after a team gets eliminated from playoff contention, their win total from that point on is their draft order. This stops teams from tanking, and keeps almost playoff teams from having great odds by choosing to tank. Also, teams won’t tank to elimination and then start winning, because if teams think they can win that many games, they’ll try during the regular season to get a good seed and avoid the lotto completely

If big market teams were tanking or having bad seasons, Mr. Silver would have no problem about that. What a hypocrite.

Just have an auction every year

Adam silver needs to go😂
Go the nfl route so that bad teams actually get better
I think the way the MLB does it is great if you are bad 2 years in a row or tank a couple years in a row you automatically don’t have a chance to get #1

I’ve always thought that they should just remove the lottery and make the draft like the NFL
Just have the media vote on who the losing teams are more deserving of the pick rather than the lottery tbh
Please just do the NWHL system 😭
Here’s my mathematical proposition
Every team plays each team at least 2 times so we count the 2 times they play if they play more than 2 times then it’s the first and last meeting

Sacramento never getting good again bro

Hear me out, how about no draft lottery at all and you do it like the nfl, who yes have tankers, but for the most part want the teams to win
The Wizards are never gonna be good 😔
Get rid of the lottery, picks decided by record and nothing else. Except that bad teams exist because there always gonna be one. We don’t live in a world full of OKCs. Do that and the league can heal.
Why not do it like the MLB? repeat years in the lottery without a like top 3 pick increases your odds for next year?
isn’t the point to make bad teams better so that the league stays equally competitive?
TIME FOR RELEGATION!! You want to suck for YEARS, then your ass is getting Relegated! 🤣🤣
Tanking is a media problem.
Prospects are hyped up as generational saviors who will turn around a franchise within a year. GMs want these players for the optics to save their jobs.
Most of the best players (Jokic, Giannis, Luka, etc) aren’t top picks.
Crazy idea here, just get rid of the lottery
Adam silver is f#$@$#@ idiot
It's clear that all of this is just a way to please the betting sponsors and it's disgusting

The league only brings up tanking to hid the whole kawhi Leonard/Steve Cohen scandal
Get rid of the lottery there will be more competition

To me I feel like the team with best improvement compared to the previous season should get the best odds. Tell me why I'm wrong please
We should go back to worst record with number 1. Sometimes its impossible to catch horrible teams

Back to the coin flip? Or perhaps a tournament for the draft, to get teams trying?
just get rid of the lottery so that teams wont need to tank for as long as

ATP just give the first pick to the champions

Bad team would stay bad forever, especially a lot of reoccurring small market team. We can’t have these “solutions”
I think the 3rd proposal would work best. If they add a min. win total, there would be just always bad teams, most likely small markets
Adam silver is an idiot what do you expect
This is what you get when your commissioners only focus is on hyping some dudes legacy in spite of taking care of the league. Both need to leave
