The Real Problem: The "Brunson Freeze" is Killing the Knicks’ Stars
Everyone is losing their minds over the Giannis rumors, but let’s get real: there is no reason to bring in another superstar spectator just to stand around while Jalen Brunson pounds the ball into the hardwood. You’re seeing it every night with the All-Stars we already have. Look at Mikal Bridges—people are asking what happened to his "aggressive" Brooklyn version, but the truth is he’s just trapped in the "Brunson Freeze." Mikal’s usage rate has cratered to a career-low 17.2% here because when your point guard dances for 20 seconds of the shot clock, elite wings turn into cardio specialists. The stats show that OG Anunoby is also being suppressed; his production jumps from 14 PPG next to Jalen to a massive 22.3 PPG in games where Brunson is out. That’s an 8-point "Freeze Tax" just for sharing the floor with him.
The most ignored part of Brunsons game, by dishonest beat writers and clickbait podcasters is Brunsons defense, nobody ever mentions it, does CAA pay you off too?—Brunson is a complete leak on defense. According to CraftedNBA and advanced EPM metrics, Brunson is currently sitting in the 1st percentile for defensive impact. He is statistically the 5th worst defender in the entire league. The on-off splits are staggering: when Jalen is on the floor, the Knicks give up 119.4 points per 100 possessions. When he sits and the "Freeze" thaws, that defensive rating drops to 106.3—a 13-point swing . You’re essentially playing 4-on-5 on one end and 1-on-5 on the other.
If you bring Giannis in, what changes? He’ll just be the next $50-million-dollar observer watching "The Freezer" go to work on offense, then having to expend all his energy covering for Jalen’s defensive lapses on the other side. Adding a two-time MVP to a system that doesn't share the ball isn't a solution—it’s just a more expensive version of the same problem. You can't ask Giannis to be a "savior" when the system itself is designed to suppress everyone but the point guard.
The answer isn't to trade away our versatile wings for a superstar; the answer is to move on from the guy who freezes out every All-Star he plays with. If the Knicks want Giannis to actually be Giannis, they have to get rid of "The Roomates" Until this team moves on from a point guard who is a bottom-tier defender and a high-usage rhythm killer, it doesn’t matter who you bring in. They’ll all just be standing in the corner waiting for a touch that never comes, Leon Rose will never trade his Godson, so its all for naught anyway.Until Jim Dolan steps up and gets rid of the mastermind who turned a mediocre college team into some kind of bizarre NBA squad, the frustration will keep going. Meanwhile, Leon Rose and his CAA-connected clients (the Knicks) will just keep lining their pockets while the fans endure the pain. Honestly, most of you could have built a better team for less money.

Troy, because he confirmed that there was a previous conversation about a trade to New York really isn’t confirmation that he wants to come to New York, but rather the Bucks doing their due diligence and seeing what a potential offer might look like. Apparently, the offer or discussion went nowhere because he remained with the Bucks. Could it be that the Bucks refused whatever offer was made? Who knows.
