Monaco got back to winning ways by defeating ASVEL 81-76 in the French League Derby at Salle Gaston Medecin. In a first half of runs, Monaco took a 22-21 edge into the second quarter before pulling away thanks to a 15-2 surge for a 46-36 lead at halftime. A trade of blows in the third quarter saw Monaco maintain a double-digit advantage heading into the fourth, but ASVEL bounced back to make it a one-possession game (76-74) in crunch time. Yet Monaco tightened up its defense, didn’t allow the guests to score a single field goal in the last 2 minutes and sealed the outcome thanks to a three-point dagger by Elie Okobo.

Having grabbed its ninth straight victory over ASVEL, Monaco improved its record to 20-16. Meanwhile, the visitors suffered their sixth consecutive loss, dropping to 8-28 at the bottom of the standings.

Okobo came 2 assists shy of a triple-double, as he finished the game on 16 points, 10 rebounds and 8 dishes. Matthew Strazel scored a team-high 22 points and Nikola Mirotic netted 14. Braian Angola bagged 26 points, with Shaquille Harrison scoring 22 for the guests in a losing effort.
