So in the Scenario you presented I would take A cuff. He could replace Kyrie when he retires. However I think the Mavs get a top 4 pick and Indiana loses their pick to LAC who then we call and Trade Gafford to them and Ask for that 1st round pick may have to add someone else as well and then we draft Acuff. That gives 2 very young and promising players around Cooper.
I do not want Acuff. Bro is such a horrible defender and gives up too much size. Give me Keaton Wagler. He’s a bigger guard who plays both ends of the floor and has a mature vibe to his game. He’s who we need if we go guard.
Guard is a priority. We already have our star forward of the future in Flagg so makes no sense to get another wing/forward with a high pick as Flagg already has that position as a Lock. Need to get him a guard with a blue chip player pick.
4 options are
1)Darryn Peterson(if he leaves that load management in the past with no ego and the Mavs somehow get the chance to draft him)
2) Acuff Jr but his stock is rising so its a low probability.
3) Kingston Flemmings
4) Mikel Brown Jr.(hopefully he shakes off the injury issues)
All can go to the rim at rim. Physical getting to spots, and can move off ball. Flemmings and Peterson are both Physical defenders while Mikel got the size to play said capacity. Acuff Jr is the shortest here by not by a large margin and will continue to grow and has shown hustle on that side of the ball.
Point is get a player who can work with Flagg to the next level instead of fighting for star player role. Which is why I'm iffy with Peterson. Top 3 picks feel they are franchise players and rightfully so but the Mavs don't need that type of animosity in the lockeroom which is why if the Mavs do get a top 3 pick; the option to trade down is very much on the table.
Kyrie is not going anywhere he will be our point gaurd for the next 4 to 5 years. He is literally still the best point in the league. This is not a total rebuild Cooper doesn't like to lose he letting you know another season like tht he gonna request a trade. Adding Kyrie 25 points a game you are a contender. Plus Kidd has say who is team he likes length and players who play defense probably going to be Caleb or Wagler but he not taking a midget who plays no D and still has to learn the game. He is not drafting a point tht what Kyrie is for the next for to 5 years.

It's between Kingston Flemings, Darius Acuff & Keaton Wagler. Depending upon how the Board falls, one of the three will likely be the pick. 🤔🤔

We have back court and wing defenders why are we worried about 6'3 guard that can at least stay in front of an offensive guard

LOL, Acuff is nearly guaranteed to go sixth if not fifth, and if the Mavs finish 6th in draft odds, they will have a 0% chance of picking 5th, and only an 8.6% chance of picking 6th. Of course he will be top 6 in their big board, but there's little chance they would pick him in the top four if they moved up, and less chance (imho) of him falling to 7th or 8th, where they would have over 50% probability of picking presuming they successfully tank the last three games.
NO!! No defense? PASS!! Championship teams have FIVE defenders not four. Kyrie is already undersized. We can’t have two guards in the game during winning time that can’t contribute to a Stop. Kyrie does enough on offense at his size. We don’t need to have someone that allows an easy drive at the end of the game that ends with the defense scrambling to try and cover his defensive mistakes. Cooper can only do so much to cover up bad defense. The NBA will seek out the weakest defender at the end of games and at his height, he will be the target and he will be what keeps his team from getting that one Stop that’s the difference between a second round exit and getting to the Finals and potentially winning.

If you draft Acuff, you will need to go out and sign someone like Lou Dort who can play defense on the perimeter. He can't be worse on defense than Luka or Kyrie

Acuff will look great until we get good enough to be a playoff team. Then he will become the weakest link. We will then trade him for less like Darius Garland if if we are lucky, if not he’s scoot and we are screwed.

Scuff is my nightmare scenario. Would only be content w him if we fall all the way to the end of the lottery. Darryn, AJ, Wilson, Boozer…hell I think Fleming will even wind up having a better career than Acuff.
Pass on Wagler & Acuff. Instead they should get Mario Saint-Supery, Jan Vide, Aidan Mahaney, Sergio de Larrea, Blue Cain, Nikola Janicic, Andrej Kostic, Ognjen Srzentic Dusty Stromer, Ilane Fibleuil or Collin Chandler
