Fenerbahce brought its five-game losing streak to an end by topping ASVEL 76-81 in the final round of the regular season. If Hapoel or Real Madrid loses, Fenerbahce will lock up home-court advantage in the playoffs. The reigning champions close the regular season with a 24-14 record, while ASVEL – which pushed Fener all the way on Thursday night – finished with a league-worst 8-30 mark.
The winners took an early lead and were able to keep ASVEL at arm’s length in the first half, but an 18-0 run to start the second half put Fenerbahce in command at 42-66. It took ASVEL over 7 minutes to score its first points of the second half, however a strong finish to the period saw it enter the fourth down 20, 50-70. An inspired Shaquille Harrison gave ASVEL hope as the Fener lead dwindled, with Braian Angola cutting the gap to 76-80 with 22 seconds remaining. Tarik Biberovic split free throws to secure the final result.
Talen Horton-Tucker top scored for Fenerbahce with 21 points, followed by Biberovic with 17 and Brandon Boston with 10. Nicolo Melli also chipped in 7 points and 12 rebounds. ASVEL’s Harrison had a career night with 25 points, while Angola netted 16.
