Buying Wins in the Modern NBA; Was Spending Really the Bucks’ Problem Last Season?

Buying Wins in the Modern NBA; Was Spending Really the Bucks’ Problem Last Season?

Milwaukee Bucks face scrutiny as their league-low spending sparks a heated debate—can building a contender really be about more than just the luxury tax? Justin Garcia and Camille break down Doc Rivers’ recent comments, exploring whether being 27th in NBA payroll actually hinders the Bucks’ chances with Giannis Antetokounmpo still on the roster. The conversation dives into how recent trade moves, upcoming draft decisions, and strategic salary cap management could shape the franchise’s future.

Key discussion points include the real impact of luxury tax spending around the league, the balance between smart roster construction and financial aggression, and how teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors have fared with contrasting approaches. Can the Bucks afford to stay under the tax and still chase another championship run, or is a spending spree inevitable? Share your thoughts as the Bucks’ offseason narrative continues to unfold.

  1. I don't respect Doc trying to deflect responsibility for his coaching performance this year by bring up spending. He had an opportunity to voice that sentiment before the season started if he felt it was an issue. To say this now in hindsight is a perfect example of the criticism he receives for not taking accountability.

  2. The hardest bucks season to watch since 2013. I can’t believe we actually hired Doc Rivers…

  3. It's not spending, it's trying to appease one player on a team and that player ain't all that.Small market goo goo eyes!! You got a championship, cut losses and start over and get what you can get for Giannis and rebuild.Buuuut, it's not going to happen the Buck's are going to continue this mess for 3 or 4 more years,!!😮

  4. Doc has been an excuse merchant everywhere he goes. I felt like this ridiculous media spree was always coming after he was gone.

  5. Honestly, I don’t wanna hear anything from anybody about how Milwaukee is a poverty franchise just a year and a half ago they were over the second apron and couldn’t acquire anyone as a result
