QUALIFYING OFFER: Would Jalen Duren Take This RISK? Should The Detroit Pistons Consider Trading Him?

Detroit Pistons face a pivotal crossroads as Jalen Duren’s contract standoff intensifies—could a qualifying offer really be on the table, or is a sign-and-trade looming? Ku Khahil and Matt Griffin examine Duren’s rare leverage, the risks for both player and franchise, and how NBA contract dynamics and CBA changes could reshape Detroit’s off-season strategy.

DeMar DeRozan’s potential fit in Detroit sparks debate: can the Pistons balance veteran scoring with the need for young player development? The conversation breaks down DeRozan’s impact on ball security, offensive creation, and playoff shortcomings, while questioning how his “phone booth scorer” style might clash or complement Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren. With locker room chemistry and season objectives hanging in the balance, will Detroit prioritize experience or future growth?

  1. I know it's hard to talk about a team every day but Ku throwing out this QO crap is ridiculous. He says himself he doesn't believe it but keeps putting it in titles smh

  2. Honestly at this point, they need to trade him while he has value. He will be a locker room problem next season, the fans don't like him right now either. If he stays he needs to have a huge performance in the playoffs.

  3. Walker Kessler got 32.5. Duren is not that much better 35 is good number. He is kat cant shoot 3 not that good on defense. Cam he get better in the years ahead yes. Right his is ok (lob threat).

  4. Duren taking the QO on his part would be a generational fumble just as a risk standpoint on his end. Say the pistons want to give him 35, but he wants 45. He's thinking its a 50 million difference he's fighting for, but it's really 15 million. Over 5 years. He loses that 25 mil this year (10 mil QO vs 35 mil if he signed) and would gain a theoretical 10 extra for 4 years. 40-25=15. And he assumes that a team will have the capspace to sign him. And he assumes his value does not drop in a year. And he assumes he doesn't have a catastrophic injury that massively lowers his value or makes him unable to play ever again. To make 15 million extra in 5 years. Fire your agent Duren.

  5. I"m not a pistons fan but there is zero percent chance he signs a QO. He isn't going to sign a QO with a contract of 175 million on the table. Grimes signed the QO because he didn't have a any real contract on the table and just way less at stake for a role player like him. Also, let's say Duren hits free agency as an unrestricted free agent next season, there aren't gong to many teams with over 40 million in cap space who are willing to use all of their cap space on Duren.

  6. Can't believe fans are on the side of billionaire owner. Pistons must bring in 350 million dollars a year in revenue! They set up this arbitrary salary structure to limit what they can pay players! Pistons promised JD the max if he achieved his goals! He did and TL reniged!

  7. It seems like Duren is upset cause the piston didn't give him an contact extension for the regular season awards he got, not knowing it's about playoffs wins and Championship that gets you Big Money , not regular season
