The Spurs Signed a 40% Shooter… Then Cut Him 2 Days Later
The San Antonio Spurs signed 40% three-point shooter Miles Barnstable for training camp then waived him just two days later, before he ever participated in a practice.
Barnstable was added on September 22 after spending Summer League with San Antonio, but the Spurs waived him on September 24 and added Jon Elmore and Malik Williams to training camp deals.
That timing matters. Spurs training camp does not officially open until September 29, meaning Barnstable never actually got the chance to compete in a practice for the 15th roster spot.
And this may explain why.
Barnstable is now considered a strong candidate to end up with the Austin Spurs. Malik Williams could be headed there as well, while Elmore spent last season in the G League.
This is starting to look less like a battle for San Antonio’s final NBA roster spot and more like the Spurs building out their G League pipeline before camp even begins.
