The media don’t care about the game
Nobody wants to accept this but it’s true. The nets aren’t talking about stuff other than basketball on a day to day basis (other than kyrie). They’re going in to shootarounds, practices and games and doing their job. The media is much more incentivized to create drama.
Year 1: KD hurt
Year 2: Kyrie/Harden injured in playoffs
Year 3: Kyrie can’t play because of unprecedented COVID and Harden trade demand. Only year off court distractions cost the team.
Year 4: KD trade request. But once season started he was ready to play. Terrible coach Nash fired. No off court distractions
