Someone get Walker a campaign manager…

    Really bad lol.

As a writer you have to understand the optics of this and what it looks like. And frankly, no, Kessler didn’t deserve to be ROTY over Paolo. It’s really not even comparable. Bad call.

I would expect local media members to be biased towards local teams. Walker played well enough for at least one local media members to feel like they could justify voting for him to win rookie of the year. If you don’t want local bias don’t give local media members a vote for the award or explicitly ban them for voting for their own team.

People care about being unanimous ROTY? Why?

I really don’t care about NBA awards and why people vote the way they do. It’s something that I’ll never have a say in and TBH I don’t really care that much.

Would’ve been less egregious if he had at least used the same so called methodology for all the award voting but he picked and chose when he thought that metric was most important which makes it look pretty clearly motivated by home team bias.

Every voter has personal biases but was kinda bs when he said, “even if i didn’t cover the Jazz beat…”

Just have your vote and leave it there

I think he’ll be okay. He made a solid argument for his vote. If anyone doesn’t want to hear him out then they aren’t worth listening to.

  8. First, Andy definitely knew what he was getting into here, and you have to respect someone who has solid rationale for his argument and knows he’s going to get beaten up for it anyway. Second, his argument actually makes sense. Paolo is flashy and has tremendous potential, but Kessler contributed to winning (both statistically and eye test) better as a rookie.

    You love to see it.

He’s always seemed like a pretentious douche to me so maybe this’ll knock him down a few pegs.

It’s not as egregious as the outrage suggests. Zach Lowe said on his podcast the other day that when he discussed ROTY with analytics people in the NBA that they said Kessler without hesitation and saw him as the outright leader

  11. Go Andy. As a BS Pod listener it seems wild to me that at least 7 of the people voting in the screen shot work for/have worked for Bill Simmons properties

Paolo still won so who gives a shit. All the clowns out here caring about unanimous ROY foh.
