Lots of fans wanted to let him walk. I don’t get why. At worst, he’s an elite bench player in your rotation. Then, last year, as a starter, he showed real progress. He made leaps as a playmaker. He was consistent. He showed he could regularly score at all levels and challenge the defense in the paint constantly. He’s got so much gravity with the ball. Defenders flock to him, and he shows a knack for finding his teammates. Even with Collins being another mouth to feed, I don’t see his ppg falling off at all. His assist numbers should increase. He will never be a cp3 floor general. But he can be a really good score first pg and get us 20 7 5 on decent efficiency and lower turnovers.
The turnovers will need to be worked on, but I think his 2nd year starting will do that. Finally, he’s a great locker room presence and teammate. He will be a great mentor to our young guys and be a great leader on and off the court. He’s an incredibly hard worker, and his deal only gets better as it ages. People see his contract as a great trade chip starting next year, but I think of it as potentially a good price for him moving to the bench next year and allowing Key to start. Letting Clarkson cook off the bench and key run the show. It’s just something else to consider. Having him in the rotation is a great thing to have.

Clarkson was the only player who played well in the Mavs series that ended the Don Rudy run, he was an underrated passer and playmaker as the primary option, there are only so many dudes that can get their own shot Whenever they want and so many fans wanted to let him walk? I never understood why!
He’s the perfect volume guy while we ramp up our young guys who aren’t ready to be primary options yet, this is a no brained, Clarkson FOREVER
