Tim McMahon talked about the availability of Taylor Hendricks in the LV SL on the Hoops Collective. He made it sound possible yet unlikely that Hendricks would play. It's disappointing. But it's not the end of the world. Hamstring tweaks can linger and be tricky and I'm 100% on board with the Jazz using caution.
As for the discussion around Taylor Hendricks and the GLeague… I have a few different thoughts. First, there seems to be a portion of the fanbase who believes that the Jazz HAVE to play the rookies immediately and if they don't it's somehow a signal that the rookies aren't good OR that it will prevent them from developing. That's simply not true imo. There were only 4 rookies last season who averaged over 30 minutes a game. Only around 14 total rookies played in over half of their teams games AND averaged over 20 minutes a game. The truth is that most rookies in the league don't play right away. And they can still pan out. We don't get the full picture in the rookie year. Second, if Hendricks was to get sent to the GLeague for any reason…. I just don't think that he'll be there long and I don't see a reason for panic. He's so talented defensively and so functional athletically that I fully expect that he's going to work his way up the rotation organically. The Jazz would see him in the GLeague and just be like "ok yeah, we can't leave you there because we can use this on the Jazz roster". I don't know if it will happen as quick or as impactful but I think that it's going to have similarities to Walker Kessler in that he just organically moves up the depth chart. He will be an valuable rotation/starter level player one day. I have little to no doubt. He's good.
