[Jason Quick] This memo essentially shows the league backs Portland’s stance that there should be open bidding for the star’s rights, while also warning other players and agents that this tactic won’t be tolerated.

> If Cronin had his wish, he would like to keep Lillard in Portland, but if that ship has sailed, he has said his next priority is doing right by the Blazers.

this is ridiculous. i demand a top 15 player in exchange for two undesirable contracts, pick swaps, and a twenty year old.

I’m glad the NBA is at least trying to nip this in the bud, because it’s a terrible look. I have no idea the practical impact this will have, since it could just make everyone be more secretive about it but not change the actual behavior. I hope this at least keeps a saga like Dame’s from happening again.

  3. moons_a_skull

Its not even a slap on the wrist though, all that came from this is Dame said he wont threaten to sit out

  4. luvvdmycat

    He stay.

    Or Portland gets a haul.

    Heat be damned.

  5. DeeezNugetz

Just keep the fkr and tank. The nba is a complete mess. Trade him to a franchise for a title.run his last year

  6. Good_NewsEveryone

Haha no. The league just doesn’t want the dirty laundry in public

  7. DogeGod_Ricky-C

Dame’s “loyalty” stance is looking so bad right now. Let’s be real, he was only loyal to the dolla

  8. thy_armageddon

No it’s just saying, “Hey assholes, don’t do the quiet stuff out loud.”

    >there should be open bidding for the star’s rights

There already is. No is stopping a team from jumping in. Does anyone really think Dame will sit?

  10. Paused_Toast

    *Harden’s phone rings*

Dame: Hey, can I borrow a fat suit, might go to a team I don’t want to play for.

I’m genuinely shocked the owners didn’t put their foots down in the last round of CBA negotiations. That shit passed in like 12 hours.

  12. trevortins

What do they mean this won’t be tolerated? if a player does sit out I’m pretty sure the lose pay already so unless the fit is more then this isn’t really anything.

  13. ZergTheVillain

James Harden forces his way out of 3 teams: r/nba I sleep

Dame forces his way out of 1 team he’s been super loyal too: r/nba **REAL SHIT**

  14. ChurchOf69

Make a point blazers. Trade Lillard to the Wizards for a club sandwich and draft picks

  15. DustNeverSleeps

Lillard is garbage. Send him to Miami. They’ll get exposed, just like beta boy Durant will in Phoenix.

  16. Klaxosaur

I like how the league had to intervene for fucking Damian Lillard requesting a trade.

Who knew Mr Loyal would be the one for the NBA to issue a statement about wanting out etiquette lmao.

Not the memed players like Bron/KD/etc

  17. throwaway__rnd

That ship hasn’t sailed at all. He’s under contract. They are 100% within their rights to keep him for years to come.

  18. No_Nefariousness6385

Im impressed by the amount of people saying the phrase “Lillard GAVE Portland 12 years….” like he really gave shit to the team and wasnt paid hundreds of milions of dollars to do so…

  19. Glad they did something. Players are so entitled I swear. You get paid millions and you make demands like what. The nba gave you this opportunity so use it.

  20. Drummerboybac

There’s gonna just be one team out there every player who wants to be traded is going to say is on their list of destinations but everyone knows that team is never trading for them.

  21. Dmanning2

don’t see why the league office would involving themselves in this. this seems beneath them

  22. BenSoloGhost

Dame has turned into the biggest bozo this offseason

  23. I may be the minority in this, but I disagree. Players aren’t livestock, they shouldn’t have to uproot their lives to go to a city and team they don’t want to be at. They should have a say if they don’t want to go to a certain team, basically. Exactly the way soccer operates where the selling them and the player both have to agree to the move.

You force a player to go somewhere he doesn’t want to be, then you get shitty situations like Ben Simmons.

The league is trying to look out for the owners because that’s where the money is at.

  24. NotClayMerritt

Is the difference really just making public comments about it? Because Shams has been saying that James Harden only wants to play for the Clippers. Nobody talks about that

  25. Some dude got 25 games for flaunting a gun and not being right in the head. What’s dame gonna get? 5 games? $200k? He can afford it.

Continue your arc bro. You ain’t doing nothing wrong

  26. em_washington

Damn straight. Just play basketball. You don’t choose where. You will play for whichever owner you are sold to. Err governor.

  27. ThedirtyNose

He should just retire. Then unretire in a couple of months.
