More often than I would like to hear how Harden, Davis, Simmons, and other weren't prevented from going to their desired destination when they got fed up with the franchise that's paying them millions of dollars in an active contract. I'm sure you realize this routine isn't sustainable. I think that the Trail Blazers drew the line. I hope Joe Cronin's resistance to being rushed into a trade serve as a pattern other GMs should to follow if they're faced with a similar situation.
I strongly disagree. Portland can trade Dame anywhere. The leverage is the backlash Portland would get for screwing over a loyal player. If Dame and Miami make it ugly then they lose that leverage

Obviously, Dame didn't seriously take into consideration what would be the worst thing that could happen if he signed an extension with the Trail Blazers. He should've because the worst thing that could happen could, possibly, happen. He'll just have to suck it up and go with the flow. Being paid 10s of millions of dollars should make it less painful.
The NBA is a business. Players go wherever they're paid. Saying that players wont want to go there because of the Dame saga isn't only untrue but has gotten old.
