Underachieved? Joel Embid has never been to conference final … Tatum has never lost series against Embid.. Tatum also cooked Embid in the playoffs…Anthony Davis is made of glass… has had two western conference appearances in his entire career… Tatum has been to 4… If you asked every gm in the league Tatum or Davis ya think the majority say Davis… heck no!!

Jayson Tatum belongs in the conversation for "best, most complete scorer in the game today." But what keeps him out of the top 5 overall players IMO is that he's not really a game changer when his shot's not falling. Even when their shots weren't falling, guys like Giannis & LeBron historically found ways to dominate – Giannis with defense, LeBron with sheer playmaking power. Tatum's a good defender, and he can make plays for teammates, but he's not dominating a game with those skills when his shot's not falling.

yee those are some valid critiques of jt's game but id still have him over embiid, bc i dont think we've seen embiid have one single full healthy n productive long post season in his whole career. we NEVER seen it! i could see if this was the one yr joel was hurt in the playoffs. i get you value peak when it comes to long term playoff success but if we've never seen his peak in 6 years of playoff basketball how do you still expect that from him. at some point you have to recognize the pattern. 4/6 he hasnt finished the year healthy.
the only healthy runs were jts rookie year when the 76ers were heavy favorites and Cs got em out of there in 5 games and when cs swept him in the 1st round of the bubble. however way you slice it tatum is clearly the better overall playoff performer. to your point let's not be theoretical! lol
jt has been the more efficient n productive career playoff scorer: JE – 27 playoff wins 49/%eFG JT – 52 playoff wins 51%eFG (both 24ppg) and those numbers include tatums rookie n soph yr when he wasn't as featured in the offense as embiid was for philly. jt was better last yr too … JT – 27/10.5/5 on 52%eFG JE- 24/10/3 on 45%eFG
Jason’s lakers bias comes out heavy when he talks about Tatum. Doesn’t bring up Tatum’s impact on winning at all. The Celtics are a 14-19 when he doesn’t play. Very convenient to bring up the “elite roster” when he plays and they win. If the roster is that good why do they lose so much without him

These Celtics clueless coach Mazzulla is actually a Great and THE reason they were almost swept by a 7th seed Miami. They won against the First seed Miami last season with less talent and a competent coach. But you are too biased to acknowledge it.
What I'm not getting about your rankings this year, Jason, is that you are one who REALLY cares about postseason success. Well, last year you had jimmy 9th and embiid 8th, and now this year you have maintained jimmy at 9 while going up with embiid by I dont know how many positions but at least 2 is for sure now. How? Because he won an MVP? That doesn't fit with what you usually say. Embiid has got A LOT to prove in terms of being able to carry a franchise to ultimate success, while jimmy has more than proven himself as THE GUY. And not to mention LeBron, who fell from 4 to 8 in spite of leading his team to a west finals this year and showing that even on a bum foot and without a jumper he can still be above ELITE regardless. And, you know, i do care about reg season and I think getting an MVP is indeed a huge deal. But getting to the finals with THAT miami heat while beating bucks and celtics, and navigating this horrible LA season and later leading the team to the west finals past the current champs GSW is a whole other level that we can only DREAM one day embiid might get there. So I'm confused with you here, really.
As you have pointed out, these players are all really close. In this case, I like Tatum at 7. He can't be lower because of his production, but I just don't trust him. He struggles any time defenders seriously challenge his dribble (which happens alot in the playoffs….) and he's super streaky with his shooting.
That said, he is still 25. He will probably improve going into his prime and I may grow to trust him by the time he is 27-28. He has top 5 potential for sure.
Having Anthony Davis above Jayson tatum makes this whole list null in void. 🤦🏾♂️

@JasonLT truly on what basis is Anthony Davis better than Kawhi Leonard last season? Please don't just throw out individual numbers cause I am sure the Clippers finished well ahead of the Lakers and even though the Lakers went to the Conference Finals and the Clippers lost in the first round (context is critical). Both players are injury probe, but I am sure there is a huge difference in their individual impact on team and winning. Also AD played 55 games Kawhi 52 games and Lebron 56 games for the record….. Kawhi was not considered for all NBA or all defense, but AD and Lebron were. I am fully aware that the media has their particular preferences and those that they really hate.

If any of the do called superstars in this league did what Kawhi did in 2019, their stock would go through the roof and they would be thought of as top 20 players all time. Also Embiid was the MVP (wrongly) and his production slipped from 33 ppg in the regular season to 24 ppg in the playoffs, but it was all James Harden's fault they lost… Smh…. Also Luka missed the play in entirely but somehow he is above Kawhi… I agree Kawhi gets injured a lot, but so is Lebron recently and AD all the time just the same… So the question is what is the real reason theses players are ahead of Kawhi???

1. almost kawhi level unavailability between ad and joel. (kawhi plays better than all 3 of these guys when he's healthy if we were being theoretical…)
2. ad doesn't have a great offensive ceiling anymore.
3. its not likely embiid will stay healthy for the payoffs and when he has played he's produced less on less efficiency than tatum in 6 szns. not a small sample size. safe to say this trend will continue
4. JT won more games in the playoffs last yr than both ad n joel and wins more as a teams #1 (bron was fmvp when ad won a chip)
5. JT's on off numbers say that he isnt getting that much help from "the most talented roster" – mb was hurt, al couldnt hit a shot, smart is erratic, jb rly struggled vs the heat etc…
