I’ll be honest, sometimes I have a hard time figuring out if he is serious or not.
Nothing wrong with doing your job for a paycheck rather than because you love it. He takes it seriously and gives it a 100%, so I don’t see the problem.

Jokic really gives the impression that he’s only playing basketball because he happens to be one of the best in the world at it and makes him and his family a lot of money. Otherwise it seems like he’d rather be doing anything else in the world, probably something his days riding his horses in Serbia.

I prefer his candor a lot. I don’t understand people who think it’s a bit or think he needs to act differently.
It’s evident from his bball iq, work ethic, and skill set that he loves the sport but absolutely detests the dog and pony show that comes with doing press and performing a personality for the masses. He’s just not interested in curating himself to be a version that’s palatable to Americans (glorifying workaholic/mamba mentality) and seems very grounded and self assured in the balance he’s struck in his life. It’s super refreshing and rings pretty authentic to who he is (and how he’s described by teammates behind closed doors). I’d much rather see this version of Jokic forever than some focus group tested media trained “I LOVE BBALL” performative nonsense from him.

At first it was really funny to see the best player in the world not care about awards and shit. But jokic pushing the image of not caring about basketball simply tanks his marketability and his ability to grow a personal fanbase.

Jokic also came into the league as a fat 2nd round pick who sulked a lot and offered to give up his starting spot to Nurkic.
Who works hard enough to go from the 41st pick to a 2x MVP, FMVP, and NBA champion, but hates basketball? Nobody is watching EuroLeague film in their off time or dropping 50lbs if they hate basketball.
