Spencer Dinwiddie And Cam Thomas Battle For Starting Role In Brooklyn

With one more game left in the preseason, the Nets are left with some interesting choices going into the regular season of basketball.

One of the questions that has been on the minds of many is who the Nets should roll into their starting lineup when things kick off. Should Spencer Dinwiddie stay in the starting lineup or should Cam Thomas stay there after getting the nod covering for Cam Johnson?

Both players have had solid stretches in the preseason and Thomas’s role looks like it is more solidified than it has been in the past. Or this is just as easy as it’s Spencer Dinwiddie’s spot to lose?

  1. How long can you tell him he can’t do something while proving then wrong, while not losing his coachablility? You can lose a player, the way Nets coaching/media speaks of his skill

  2. CT has been played at the 3(SF) since he’s been drafted. Even 2K has listed him as a SF since he’s been drafted. He’s not Dort

  3. Great point! If you give him 10 minutes, he’s going to be toxic. Guaranteed minutes, he is a team player

  4. Spencer’s best quality on D is the willingness to fight over a screen. CT hasn’t shown any

  5. At the end of the day both are competing this year for bigger future pay days. Spencer Dinwiddie wants one last big contract while Cam Thomas wants to carve a long term role on this team….

Ultimately Dinwiddie is more polished in making the adjustments in the starting lineup while Cam Thomas could carve out a good role as a sixth man off the bench….

  6. We know Spence and his limits. We don't want to see the 20-year-old ball-hog mistakes he always seems to make.

Cam is young and we don't really know his ceiling yet. I'd rather see Cam make mistakes than Spence.

  7. It's evident that while Jacque Vaughn remains the coach, Cam Thomas won't receive consistent playing time. If the Houston Rockets can acquire two second-round picks for a depressed asset in Kevin Porter, the Nets should be able to secure at least one second-round pick for Cam Thomas or consider releasing him if not.

  8. Spencer Dinwiddie have to play to help Clax make shots. On the sidenote cam Tomas improve on he’s game

  9. actually diggin the birddogs 🩳 will check back before holidays to link purchases 🙏🏼

  10. It should be obvious by now that JV has more confidence in Dinwiddie to run his offense than anyone else on the roster and for good reasons. He has good size for a point guard, solid off the dribble scoring from the midrange, some three point prowess, and he's an iron man. (played 78 out of 82 regular season games last season plus playoffs) He's a versatile defender and a seasoned veteran that's proven he have the leadership skills necessary to run JV's offense. He constantly makes an effort to assist other players thus making them better. It's a given that Dinwiddie will be a starter. The answer to whether Cam Thomas should be a starter depend on who's asking. Coming from LON, it's a rhetorical question. Most of Cam Thomas"s fans think he should be a starter. His scoring prowess blind so many from the other intangibles that would contribute to him being a complete player. Developing complete players is one of the goals of the Nets. JV has always been a defense/team effort coach. I have confidence in the direction/strategy he's taking the Nets.

  11. @Doug Norrie One of your favorite cliches is, "Dinwiddie dribble the air out of the ball," You're probably the only one that don't realize that you've "dribbled" the oxygen out of that statement. Lol

  12. This year is an audition for both players. Cam auditioning to the Nets for an extension, Din auditioning to other NBA teams for one last big pay day. Which one should you prioritize?

  13. Whilst it goes without saying that a two way player is better than a one way player, it's a particularly flawed argument when it comes to good scorers in the NBA (unlike other leagues). By this logic they should not play Jalen Brunson, Kyrie Irving, Luca Doncic, Chris Paul, Damien Lillard, Garland..etc.
We then have to ask ourselves, which the Nets are more desperately in need of scoring or defence (I know we need both 😢) and who has more upside Dinwiddie or Thomas? The answer then becomes clearer 🎉..or not 😮
