Good evening everyone. First off the superstar era that never was had some interesting fun moments and some very unfortunate bad moments.
But now for the first time in a long time Brooklyn finally has a core and a direction to build something sustainable and exciting.
Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson aka The Twins are a big part of our journey into getting back into contention and it wil be very exciting to see their progress this season.
Ben Simmons has so many asterisks to his career and the last few years had many people doubting him playing this season or beyond it. But Ben Simmons did a huge amount of rehab and training to get back to his elite level of play and hes finally healthy and ready to be the floor general of this team.
Nic Claxton is the storyline to watch this season given the fact this is a big contract deciding year and he's looking to prove a lot of NBA media doubters wrong and put his name in that DPOY conversation π₯…
More importantly this season is about bringing back fun competitive basketball and bringing the culture back to where it needs to be. Lets go π₯ π….
As far as the season goes Brooklyn landing in the 4-6 seed is a top goal while 7-8 seed is another possibility given how new this team is to playing with each other.
But their biggest strength is their combined defensive IQ which is going to be a big part of their identity. Meanwhile Coach Vaughn wants this team to run a fast pace catch and shoot offense that's less iso and more of a team style dynamic.
As far as future moves goes Brooklyn has the most draft capital in the Eastern Conference and if they are a middle tier competitive team that can make the playoffs, they can offset some of their veteran contracts to acquire more first round draft picks and more importantly open up future cap space to sign bigger talent and lure that next big superstar that wants a trade( Mitchell Embid or Luka).
Strengthening their collection of first round drafts picks even more and opening up future cap space are two main goals Brooklyn management should definitely consider especially if they want to get back to contention in the near future.
Dorian Finney Smith Royce o Neale Spencer Dinwiddie and even Nic Claxton are players to monitor this whole season. Royce is going to be a free agent next year and he's a very valuable commodity and worth a potential first round draft pick if Brooklyn can't see a future long term fit with him. Dorian Finney Smith is a big rotation piece for a championship squad and could be worth two first round draft picks or a good young player and a group of second round draft picks.
Spencer Dinwiddie is also in the last year of his contract and Brooklyn management could opt to resign him to a short term contract to allow him to become a sixth man when they are ready to contend again. Or if Spencer Dinwiddie wants a longer term contract and they can't agree on something Dinwiddie could get back a first round draft pick and some quality bench players.
Lastly Nic Claxton is facing a tough test this season during a contract deciding year where he wants to be in that DPOY conversation while evolving his offensive skillset more.
Depending on how Brooklyn's record is by the trade deadline Brooklyn management will have to ask themselves if they can sign Claxton to a longer term contract while building a championship team around him?
If they somehow don't see that, Claxton's value is really high at this time and Brooklyn could get a really tempting offer if they decided to part ways. But most likely Claxton will earn himself a big pay day….
These are the players to monitor this season because they are all instrumental to Brooklyn's future in the short and potential long-term….
They r young. ??? Anything is possible. Everyone needs to work hard and smart to get better. Including GM. π sorry I just don't like non shooting point guard π’. Ben gotta go if he is not aggressive in offense.
