He Warned Him…

Today is the continuation of a new series and I believe it will be one of my most exciting video series to date in this video and in this series I’m researching some epic basketball stories about some of the greatest players of all time I’ll do my best to research

These stories to figure out what specific games they’re talking about and I’ll do my best to inform you guys on the details of the event today I have a story from the NBA legend Dominique Wilkins as he describes a game he was in with Michael Jordan take a listen the

Best performance I ever witnessed part of was against Michael Jordan and I never had a player to do this before I think I had 57 in Atlanta we go back to Chicago weeks later and I remember Michael Jordan walks in our locker room before the game we in suit and tie

Haven’t gotten dressed that he walks in our locker room and I’m like what the hell is he doing you know so I’m thinking maybe going to the training room or something so he walks by me he walks by Kevin Willis and he gets to Randy Whitman and he slaps him on behind

And he said lace him up it’s gonna be a long night he turned and walked out and I’m in shock I’m like did he just and I didn’t know what to say I said well you tell that so and so Scotty pick my I’m will kick his

Ass I didn’t know what to say he had 60 and but know even though he had 60 is the way he had it you know it was Electric Man I mean it was it was incredible now Dominique’s perspective and stories about Michael Jordan are worth listening to considering the

Incredible individual rivalry that they had for example both players averaged roughly 30 points per game over the course of their careers against one another so let’s take a look at the details of his story and see if I can figure out what game he’s talking about first off Dominic mentions that this

Game was from the season where he earlier scored 57 points in Atlanta against the Bulls and researching briefly I found that 57-point performance which was in the 1986 to 1987 season Dominique also mentions that he was teammates with Kevin Willis and Randy Whitman who were apparently

Present in the locker room and that does in fact check out with the 86 to 87 season as all three of those players were teammates on the Hawks that year he said that despite Jordan’s performance his Hawks actually won the game he also said that Jordan’s 60-point performance

Was in Chicago in the 86 to 87 season the Bulls and Hawks played three times in Chicago but only two of those games were after Dominique’s 57o performance which is is how he described it in one of those games Jordan only scored 34 points and in the other game MJ erupted

Offensively which tells me that I’ve almost certainly found the game that Wilkins was talking about it was on April 16th 1987 and was the second to last game of the NBA regular season the Hawks were standing strong with the second seed in the East out with a 56

And 24 record on the other hand the Bulls were sitting at the seven seed with a 500 record of 40 and 40 some of the contexts that Dominique didn’t mention is that at this point Jordan was the hottest player in the entire league by far obviously to step in the opposing

Team’s locker room and tell them that it’s going to be a long night you have to have a lot of confidence and Jordan had plenty of good reasons to be so confident four nights earlier MJ absolutely torched the Indiana Pacers dropping 50 3 points on over 70%

Shooting from the field the very next night MJ destroyed the Milwaukee Bucks in their own building as he poured in 50 points on 52% shooting if MJ could get at least 50 points against Dominique and the Hawks then it would be his third straight game with at least 50 which

Would be the longest streak of his career up to that point when the game began no one was surprised as MJ came out absolutely scorching as he hit six out of his first seven shot attempts just as Dominique described MJ was scoring his points in a variety of ways

As his mid-range Artistry was completely on display the Bulls got out to a big lead early with MJ leading the way and Atlant seemed helpless to stop him MJ was almost completely carrying the offense at one stretch he scored 23 straight points for the Bulls which was

A franchise record with his 38th point he surpassed 3 ,000 total points on the season joining Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to score at least 3,000 points in a season to this very day Chamberlain and Jordan are still the only players to ever do it towards the

Halfway point of the third quarter Jordan was scoring into the high 40s and something that’s worth noting is how exhausted MJ was in this contest the only other time I can recall him being this weary in a game was during the famous Flu Game game and during his

Final game with the Chicago Bulls I think this just tells you how much he had to carry Chicago offensively at this point in his career at the end of the third quarter the Bulls were up by 11 points and seemed as if they had total momentum on their side but Atlanta was a

Smart and talented team and they entered the fourth with a plan they became extremely physical with MJ trying to punish him whenever he attacked the basket they were also winning the loose ball and the hustle plays while Chicago was struggling to get a rebound MJ did

His best to hold off a hawk surge but with just under a minute left in the game the two teams found themselves tied at 112 despite the fact that Jordan gets the spotlight for this contest it was actually the other star who originally told the story who was the one who

Shined the brightest in the final minute with 41 seconds left Dominique hit this difficult Jumper in the post with him MJ Dred all over him now the Hawks had a two-point lead after the timeout it was the Bull’s turn MJ drove to the left side trying to get past the double team

When he was hit as he was taking a jump shot MJ hit both free throws which not only tied the game but also gave him a total of 61 points which was the third time he had a clip 60 in his NBA career now it was Atlanta’s turn again the ball

Found its way back to Dominique and he picked up his dribble while MJ was blanketing him despite being forced into a highly contested 20-footer Dominique still buried the jump shot clutchy giving the lead back to the Hawks with 11 seconds left the ball was going back

To Chicago as they trailed by just two points MJ drove until he was triple teamed and forced up a shot that ended up being well short Dominique then got the clutch rebound and was fouled with 2 seconds left in the game he proceeded to miss the first free

Throw but then made the second extending the lead to three points with only a 20se second timeout the Bulls were unable to advance the ball and had to inbound it on the opposite end of the Court it all came down to one prayer of a shot from arguably the most clutch

Player in the history of the game Jordan took the inbounds pass and heaved a game tying three from 60 ft out but it was just short and the Atlanta Hawks escaped with a victory with a final score of 116 to 113 on the night MJ was MJ as he

Finished with 61 points 10 rebounds and four Steals on 22 of 38 shooting on the other hand Dominic was the player who closed out the game with his clutch performance as he had 34 points six rebounds and three assists on 10 of 21 shooting to be honest I really

Appreciate the humility of Wilkins while telling the story because although MJ had the historic record setting performance Dominique was the true hero of the evening as he iced the game despite the tremendous defense from MJ ultimately Wilkins was extremely precise in telling the story except for one glaring detail that he clearly isn’t

Remembering correctly according to Dominique after MJ told him in the locker room that it was going to be a long night he responded by saying that he would kick Scotty P Pippen’s butt the only thing is Scotty Pippen wasn’t even in the NBA yet but rather he was still

Finishing up his final year at the University of Central Arkansas but other than that the story checks out and is almost exactly as he told it so what do you guys think who else has a good story that I should cover please keep the suggestions coming because I love making

Videos in this series thanks for watching as always make sure to like And subscribe for more basketball content and I’ll see you guys in the next video oh

A breakdown of Dominique Wilkin’s story about Michael Jordan.

The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad’s recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it’s rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

  1. Who agrees with me had Dominique had the NBA machine behind him and the endorsement of Nike behind him Dom might have been the GOAT

  2. I was the one who mentioned that you did about that game I was wrong it was 61 but thank you Johnny for highlighting those great games

  3. For this series how about the game where Dennis Rodman was put to guard shaq second half and shaq scored 0 points not many people know about that game

  4. I love this series, Jonny, please do keep it going. Not only are they very entertaining but they're also great for preserving the legend of these players that have been out of the league for some time.

  5. Dominique was a great player and he was a equal to Mj and bird in their era
But over time he is getting slept on even tho he was a good player and he was a legendary dunker

  6. Sooooo excited for this series!!! Idk of many stories but cant wait to hear something about Larry Bird or even Kevin Garrnett!

  7. 4:58 i didn't know this. That's crazy. Him and Wilt are the only 2 to drop 3000+ in a season. And to think, that's during a time where defense was actually played.

  8. Great video! As always! How about a video detailing Byron Scott telling Michael Jordan he won’t be playing because of an injury, and Michael Jordan predicted he would drop 50 points on whoever was guarding him that night.

  9. I don't know if 3000 points in a single season is going to be touched any more even with volume 3s and the faster tempo offenses. That's 37 points per game for 82 games. Even if you manage to get 83 regular season games because of a trade, that's still 36 points per game. Nobody does that any more.

  10. Dominique is such a classy, intelligent, articulate and humble guy. He and Isiah are a lot alike in that regard.

  11. That mj shot was crisp from 60 I can’t believe that didn’t hit tbh. Nique was such an awesome player hitting that shot with MJ in his jock is insane
