Spurs have an identity and you can’t say that about a lot of clubs! – Shaka Hislop | ESPN FC

HE’S REALLY TIDY. WITH THE FINISH. >> BOURNEMOUTH WILL GET A CONSOLATION GOAL. IN FACT BOURNEMOUTH HAD QUITE A FEW CHANCES UH, OVER THE 90 MINUTES. COULDN’T CONVERT THEM AND THAT VICTORY FOR SPURS I MENTIONED BEFORE JUST PUT SOME ONE POINT NOW BEHIND ARSENAL. UH, IT’S QUITE THE RUN THEY PUT TOGETHER

OVER ALL. YOU KNOW YOU LOOK AT THIS GAME A DRAW COULD HAVE BEEN FAIR CONSIDERING THE OPPORTUNITIES BOURNEMOUTH HAD. BUT SPURS OBVIOUSLY TAKE THE WIN. >> WELL BOURNEMOUTH I THINK IT WAS FOUR STRAIGHT WINS COMING IN THERE A GOOD LITTLE SIDE AND SOLANKE UP FRONT IS A HANDFUL

AND HAD QUITE A FEW CHANCES. UH BUT ULTIMATELY THIS IS FAR FROM TOTTENHAM’S BEST PERFORMANCE. BUT WELL YOU KNOW THREE POINTS FOR THEM. AND AS POSTECOGLOU REMINDED THE REPORTER AFTER THE GAME WHEN HE SAID HE WAS ONE POINT OFF ARSENAL, HE SAID WITH THREE POINTS, THREE POINTS OFF

THE TOP, UH, AND WHEN YOU THINK THEY ARE WHERE THEY ARE WITH AND PEOPLE SEEM TO GET UPSET WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE INJURIES AND THAT THAT TOTTENHAM HAVE HAD AND BUT I THINK THEY HAVE HAD IT AS BAD. PROBABLY THEM AND NEWCASTLE. NOW SOME OF IT IS SELF-INFLICTED WITH THEIR

DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS AND THE MANAGER HAS HAS NOTED THAT. BUT BUT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, ONE POINT BEHIND ARSENAL AND WHERE THEY ARE IN THE LEAGUE WITH THE PROBLEMS THEY’VE HAD WITH SELLING HARRY KANE WITH A NEW MANAGER COMING IN AND WITH BASICALLY AT TIMES, YOU KNOW, AGAIN THERE WITH FOUR FULLBACKS

PLAYING ACROSS THE BACK FOUR, I THINK IT’S AN AMAZING JOB THUS FAR. >> DID YOU THINK AS WELL. >> AND POSTECOGLOU IN HIS CONFERENCES KEEPS SAYING THAT THEY THEY’RE BUILDING THINGS. THEY’RE BUILDING SOMETHING HERE. YOU KNOW ROLL THE ROLL THE CLOCK BACK A COUPLE OF WEEKS MAYBE A

MONTH OR SO WHEN THESE INJURIES ARE REALLY TAKING HOLD AND SPURS CONTINUE TO PLAY THIS WHAT AT TIMES FELT LIKE SUICIDAL HIGH BACKLINE AND HE JUST KEPT SAYING, THIS IS WHO WE ARE. THIS IS WHAT WE’RE BUILDING. AND NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN SPURS HAVE AN IDENTITY. AND EVEN WITH THOSE

INJURIES, SOME OF THEM COMING BACK, UM, BUT YOU KNOW WHO SPURS ARE. THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE. MOST IMPORTANTLY. AND THEY’RE GETTING RESULTS. AND NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN, BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN IDENTITY AND IT’S SOMETHING WE CAN’T SAY ABOUT A LOT OF CLUBS IN THIS LEAGUE. UM, THEY ARE

PLAYING TO THEIR STRENGTHS AND, AND GETTING RESULTS. >> UH, HOW IMPRESSED HAVE YOU BEEN WITH POSTECOGLOU SINCE HE’S COME IN? KIERAN >> OH YEAH. REALLY IMPRESSED. REALLY IMPRESSED. SHAKUR’S RIGHT. THEY’VE THEY’VE THEY’VE GOT A FOUNDATION NOW. THEY’VE GOT A FOUNDATION. THEY’VE GOT AN IDENTITY. UM THEY, THEY KNOW WHO

THEY ARE. AND YOU KNOW I DON’T WORRY ABOUT THEM. LONG TERME THIS SEASON. I DON’T THINK THEY’VE GOT ENOUGH TO, TO WELL FINISH ABOVE ARSENAL FIRST OF ALL. BUT ALSO UM CHALLENGE FOR THE TITLE. UM BUT WHAT REALLY IMPRESSED I MEAN, YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM CREDIT AFTER, YOU KNOW,

ALL OF THE SETBACKS THAT SPURS HAVE HAD THIS SEASON, UH, WITH THE OWNERSHIP AND THE DEBACLE WITH HARRY KANE, UM, SUPER IMPRESSED WITH HIM. >> UH, MEANWHILE, OF COURSE, THEY’RE GOING TO LOSE ONE OF THEIR KEY PLAYERS, UH, FOR AT LEAST A MONTH WITH THE ASIAN CUP KICKING OFF MARK WITH SONE GOING

WITH OUR FRIEND JURGEN KLINSMANN TO REPRESENT SOUTH KOREA. YEAH THAT’S THAT’S THE BIG THE BIG LOSS FOR TOTTENHAM ISN’T IT. >> BECAUSE THEY HAVE DONE SO WELL WITHOUT INJURED PLAYERS. YOU KNOW MADISON’S STILL OUT. VAN DER VAN HAS BEEN A BIG LOSS I MEAN AND HARRY KANE AS WELL

HAS BEEN GONE ALL SEASON. BUT YOU KNOW SON HAS REALLY KIND OF CARRIED THE TEAM AT TIMES. HE’S BEEN HE’S BEEN THE INSPIRATION. HE WORKS SO HARD. HE SCORES THE GOALS HE LEADS. AND I THINK IF YOU’RE MISSING SON THAT IS A MASSIVE BLOW. SO I DO WORRY FOR

TOTTENHAM A LITTLE BIT. I THINK THEY’VE DONE REALLY WELL TO MAINTAIN THE SITUATION IN RIGHT NOW, BUT WITHOUT THEIR BEST PLAYER, THAT’S GOING TO BE TOUGH. BUT YOU KNOW, I’M LOOKING AT THAT FIXTURE LIST. IT’S NOT THE WORST. YOU KNOW UNITED AWAY COULD BE ANYTHING. BUT IT’S NOT

THE WORST FIXTURE LIST. SO THEY MIGHT JUST GET BY. BUT HE IS A BIG LOSS. AND YOU KNOW HE’S ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE SON. SO ANY TEAM WOULD MISS HIM. AND ESPECIALLY THE WAY HE’S PLAYING THIS SEASON I’M ACTUALLY TOTTENHAM ARE ONE OF THE TEAMS I’M INTRIGUED WITH

WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO IN JANUARY, IF ANYTHING, AND THE SUMMER. >> AND I’LL TELL YOU WHY. FOR TWO REASONS. ONE, THE MANAGER HAS PROVEN AT OTHER CLUBS THAT HE’S ABLE TO GO OUT AND SORT OF PICK PLAYERS THAT ARE UNDER THE RADAR. HE DID IT HIMSELF AND

HE’S DONE IT ELSEWHERE. IT’S A DIFFERENT BALL GAME IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE. HAVE WE GOT THE BOSTON STRANGLER ON THE SHOW TONIGHT? >> WHICH KIERAN THERE’S SOMEBODY IN MY BUT. >> AND THE OTHER SIDE OF IT IS LIKE YOU KNOW VAN DER VAN WAS UNDER THE RADAR. YOU KNOW AND IN

ALL FAIRNESS MADISON IS A GOOD PLAYER. HOW MANY OTHERS WERE OUT THERE TO TAKE HIM? YEAH. MADISON. HOW MANY OF THE BIG TEAMS WERE GOING TO SAY, YEAH, WE’LL TAKE WE’LL TAKE MADISON. SO I THINK BETWEEN THE RECRUITMENT AND MAYBE THE KNOWLEDGE OF DIFFERENT MARKETS FOR UH, FOR POSTECOGLOU, WHICH

ARE GOING TO BE CHEAPER FOR TOTTENHAM. AND WE KNOW DANIEL LEVY WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT, THEN I’M INTRIGUED IF THEY’RE GOING TO DO ANYTHING IN JANUARY AND WHETHER IT’S GOING TO BE UNDER THE RADAR PLAYERS AND HOW THAT’S GOING TO TAKE THEM FORWARD. AND I DON’T KNOW HOW

LONG IT IS TO VAN DER VAN AND OTHERS CAME BACK. BUT BUT THAT WILL CERTAINLY BE HUGE FOR THEM. AND IF THESE PLAYERS DO COME BACK AND THEY CAN GET THROUGH THIS PERIOD WHERE, WHERE POSSIBLY, YOU KNOW, SAILS AWAY AND SUNS AWAY, UH, AND THEY’RE STILL IN A VERY GOOD POSITION.

WHO KNOWS? THE TOP FOUR COULD BE A, COULD BE A COULD BE, COULD BE THERE FOR THEM. BUT IF THEY DO START TO FALTER AND THEY CONTINUE WITH THE INJURIES AND THE SUSPENSION AND THE SELF-INFLICTED SUSPENSION, THEN THE TOP FOUR IS GOING TO BE, I THINK IN THE END, JUST BE TOO

MUCH FOR THEM. >> IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT IT 6 TO 5, THEY ARE THE OUTSIDERS WHEN COMPARED TO THE REST OF THOSE TEAMS. YOU EXPECT TO BE IN THE TOP FOUR. IN FACT, IT AS IT STANDS, ASTON VILLA. I SUPPOSE THE BIG TALKING POINT THERE. >> SHAQ YEAH, I LISTEN IT’S

REALLY TOUGH TO CALL FROM FROM SPURS ON UP FOR HAVE TO FIT INTO THAT FIVE. >> I’M STICKING WITH THE FOUR THAT I CHOSE. I THINK SPURS JUST MISS OUT, BUT CAN YOU REMEMBER THE FOUR THAT YOU CHOSE? >> YEAH, THE TOP FOUR IS I’M SURE YOU WOULD HAVE HAD

NEWCASTLE IN YOUR TOP FOUR. >> WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO AGO RIGHT. >> YESTERDAY FOR A LONG TIME AGO I KNOW NEWCASTLE, I LEFT NEWCASTLE A LONG TIME AGO. >> I SAID I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE START OF THIS SEASON. >> NO OKAY. NO THAT DOESN’T COUNT.

>> MARK TO CRAIG’S POINT. CAN THEY DO WILL THEY DO ANY BUSINESS IN JANUARY? >> I DON’T THINK I’LL DO MUCH. I THINK AGAIN, TOTTENHAM ARE ONE OF THESE CLUBS THAT I MEAN WE KNOW THAT THEY DON’T DO A LOT OF BUSINESS IN JANUARY, BUT I JUST THINK THAT THEY HAVEN’T EXTREMEF

US TO TALK ABOUT MANAGERS AS, UH, GETTING INFESTED CUFFS. >> I THINK IT’S GREAT CONVERSATION BUT NO, NO, THAT YOU’VE GOT ROY HODGSON AT THE BOTTOM. YEAH. >> ROY’S. ROY’S NOT GOING TO, UH, RISE A BIT LONG IN THE TOOTH FOR THAT. YEAH I THINK UH, I DON’T THINK THERE’S ANY DOUBT

THAT SEAN DYCHE AND POSTECOGLOU ARE DEFINITELY UP THERE. I MEAN, EDDIE HOWE’S NOT REALLY ON THE KNOW. HE’S NOT PEP. >> NO, NO NO. >> EVEN KLOPP YOU KNOW HE’S HE’S A LOVER NOT A FIGHTER. THOSE THOSE THOSE TEETH. >> YOU KNOW THEY GET IN THE WAY OF HIS FACE.

>> LET’S DENT THIS IN LIVERPOOL WAS BIG TEETH I MEAN SO MARCO YOU THROWN IN THERE. >> UH I THINK VINCENT KOMPANY COULD HANDLE HIMSELF. HE’S GOT A BIT OF, UH. >> YEAH, YEAH, YEAH THAT’S TRUE. >> BIG CENTER HALF. YEAH. I THINK VINNIE COMPANY MIGHT BE A HANDLE HIMSELF.

>> YEAH, THERE’S NOT TOO MANY. >> I WOULDN’T GET INVOLVED WITH KIERAN. >> NO, NO HE DOESN’T HE DOESN’T LIKE IT. HE DOESN’T. HE ONLY LIKES HE ONLY LIKES BEING ON THE FLOOR. HE ONLY LIKES IT ON THE FLOOR. >> SO WHAT. >> HE’S A GRAPPLER. >> HE’S A GRAPPLER. HE’S A

GRAPPLER. ROB EDWARDS THOUGH ROB EDWARDS MIGHT HAVE A SHOT. >> YEAH. THAT’S TRUE. YEAH. YOU COULD THROW ROB EDWARDS IN THERE. OH, THERE YOU ARE. POWER RANKINGS OKAY. MANAGER’S MOST LIKELY TO WIN A FIGHT. >> YOU KNOW, COME TO THINK OF IT, THERE’S A FEW WEAKLINGS ISN’T THERE.

The ESPN FC panel react to Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth that puts them just 1 point behind Arsenal in the Premier League.

  1. What identity they were on top of the premier league then they lost their hope another arsenal mentality they got no heart as a team another failed season

  2. Nothing against Lloris, but honestly the exact same team without Vicario would have been midtable at best.

  3. The Scotsman is blimping. Ate all the fried Mars bars under his Christmas tree. And under his neighbours.

  4. This spurs team gives early version of pep’s city side where they would play a ridiculously high line and just try to outscore their opponents and focus solely on entertaining football , never been a spurs fan but ngl i look forward to spurs matches nowadays

  5. I remember they were laughing about Spurs flattering to deceive but arsenal are a bigger joke squandering so many chances to run away at the top.

  6. Not "one point behind arsenal". 3 points off the TOP. Huge difference. Absolutely agree with Big Ange on that one.

  7. A lot of rivals fans are pissed off with spurs cos they thought without Kane they would be midtable and that’s a fact.

  8. Top 5 gets you champions league this season. Spurs will be right in there. The anti spurs agenda needs to stop, give respect where it’s due.

  9. The thing ppl forget. With Tottenhams injuries, it’s certain ppl that are either massively influential, and/or ppl brought in to play his style. So other teams have had a couple of seasons to bring cover in to play their style. We’ve still got ppl that aren’t really adapting and may not be there much longer. So our injuries are having a massive impact.
If we didn’t have our injuries, we’d easily be top of the league.
I love ppl writing off spurs, because it shows how ignorant they are to what spurs have done and can do. Any other day and we would’ve taken 6 points off villa and West Ham…and that’s with our injuries🤷🏻‍♂️

  10. League positions only matter after 38 games played . Teams will move loose get back winning fans and pundits can be so reactionary

  11. To be fair, both Arsenal and Spurs are in false positions. Arsenal has been unjustifiably praised, for scraping past teams which they really should be battering. That isn’t impressive and yet the pundits will pretend that Arsenal are amazing. All things being equal, Arsenal has performed like a top 8 team so far.

As for Spurs? They defend awfully and but for opposition wasting chances, they’d be getting pasted. It is no coincidence that Vicario is often their MOTM – hugely overworked. But you have to have sympathy for them too as their injury list is horrendous. Fair play to Ange for not compromising his principles.

I support neither. But I’ll say this: that full strength Spurs team was tearing opposition to pieces at the start of the season. The best in the league by a distance. I’d take Ange’s lads over Arteta’s ANY day of the week, and it’s not even a tough call.

  12. Respect the idea that postegoclu has at Spurs. While they didn't deserve to beat Liverpool, they are not far behind

  13. These ‘pundits’ do make me laugh. They love to knock spurs and that’s fine. But Ange is a breath of fresh air and believe me. That teams believes in the process have brought in to Ange’s ideas.

  14. Gibbs is extremely dismissive of Spurs' threat to Arsenal and the top 4 without really giving any reasons why. What exactly does he mean when he says we "don't have enough" to challenge Arsenal? Put both first choice 11s next to each other and there really isn't much between them, as shown in a very even NLD at The Emirates earlier this season.
Classic mistake to underestimate Posgecoglu and the quality Spurs have available – especially with players coming back from injury. Being 3pts off the top with half our first choice 11 missing for so many games surely suggests we're very much a threat!

  15. spurs has been much better than arsenal for a long time but the media like to focus on the domestic titles arsenal won with their golden generation. Even this season, with the rebuild they went through spurs are a better team than arsenal and if not for their ijuries they would have been top of the league

  16. Another delusional former player on ESPN..Stevie got company,Gibbs is like a younger him..Watch spurs finish above arsenal, thinking y’all team miles ahead

  17. It's funny that spurs who started off great then dropped form and arsenal best season so far as their fanbase indicated and manchester city worst start since peps first season apparently and manchester city is above them just needed to win two games to top them and spurs is one point behind arsenal so any else seeing the actual mediocrity of this club and boasting you all wanted real madrid did a combined 11 and put 8 arsenal players in there this whole fan base is a joke

  18. These guys are absolute clowns. “Top 4” ? It’s the “Top 5” gets you into the Champions league this season, barring a massive collapse by English Clubs in Europe the later end of the season. And these guys still banging on about “Top 4”. Anyway, I personally think Spurs WILL finish “Top 4” this season, and comfortably too.

  19. Spurs are a few months into the Postecoglou rebuild, and Arsenal are 3+ years into the Arteta rebuild. Look where the two teams sit. I don't support either, but to me it looks like Spurs have the brighter future.

  20. Its more dynamic and entertaining under Ange ball and they brought up alot of young guns – Son and coaches have been great in building the new look Spurs.
