Bobby Marks’ Phoenix Suns Trade Guide | NBA on ESPN

A happy Wednesday hopefully everyone is doing great uh in the tradition of trade guide videos that we are rolling out we are going to do a little bit about the Phoenix Suns um on uh the Youtube channel for espn.com we’ve got the Lakers Wizards Pistons Jazz bucks and now the Phoenix

Suns and uh the uh trade guides will be out the week of the 22nd Eastern and Western Conference you can go through each of the 15 teams per document and you can read about what to watch trade meter uh front office history trades we’d like to see uh salary draft

Information everything to prepare yourself when the trade deadline gets here on February 8th certainly some teams are a little more condensed uh than others um some have a lot if you’re Toronto and Indiana and Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia you’re going to be a lot written about you when you’re the

Phoenix Suns and you went out and did the Durant trade a year ago and then you went out and got Bradley Beal this off season you’re kind of just focusing on what you have right now and if you can make some minor tweaks uh to your roster

Here and uh certainly it’s been an uneven year um in Phoenix you’ve kind of gotten out of that where the Lakers in the um you know kind of where the where the Warriors are right now kind of that outside that plane and now you’re starting to creep up there to almost

Close to that um to that top six where certainly want where you want to get to and where this roster will be evaluated with um when we get to the playoffs year as I’ve said in here the best trade asset that Phoenix has going into the deadline is

Patience right a month ago people were like man we want to trade Durant Beal’s not working out Fri the coach when you go all in like ownership in the front office has the best trade asset patent that trade asset you have is patience okay let this let Beal get back he’s back

From the injury he’s played really well let this these guys figure out as far as when you have 11 new players and you have a a new head coach I don’t think any of us were expecting them to be 30 and four 34 games in so just let this watch play out

Okay and then we can evaluate them in the offseason as far as what didn’t work and what what did here another team that’s topheavy in um contracts you you’ve got um Beal Durant and Booker earning $130 million those three guys are not going anywhere and then you have

A group of players uh ysf nurkic Grayson Allen and nir little that are earning 6.2 to 16.9 million um just a little bit of a skinny as far as the trade rules that Phoenix is is faced with because they are a second apron team they can go

Out and acquire players within 110% of salar they are allowed to right now they are allowed to go out and aggregate contracts so if they wanted to send Grayson Allen and a seir little and get back a $16 million guy they can go out and do that I’m not advising them

Certainly that Grayson Allen basically has kept this team with so many of the injuries has been one of your better players and is going to be a free agent in the offseason and you can resign them and exceed the cap because you have bird rights but that is where you are you are

Allowed to go out and send cash in a deal Phoenix has um they’re limited as far as what they have um from a cash standpoint I’m just pulling up their article here um they uh $1.3 million in cash so you might as well go out and use it now

Because once the offseason starts in April you don’t have that available to you anymore because you are a uh a second apron team so you’ve got $1.3 million in cash what does that get you I don’t know does it get you can you get into and buy a pick it’s too early for

Teams to start selling off picks here maybe you have to add something in a deal here when you look at the trade exceptions okay they’ve got four trade exceptions they got two at a pretty good number $6.5 and $5 million and then 1 18 and 11 one this is the last time that

Those trade exceptions unless they all of a sudden get under the um the apron they are going to be allowed to use it okay so it’s like cash it’s use it or lose it okay so that’s what you’re looking at from a trade um from a trade

Standpoint here uh we know the front office history um James Jones is aggressive ownership is aggressive the Durant trade the bridges um the rant Bridges the be trade they are aggressive here but there’s not much left in the kitty as far as going out and moving if

Three players are off the board I would Grayson Allen’s off the board nerkish is off the board really your only midsize contract that you have is nir little and he’s under contract for four years and that’s a pretty good number it’s one of the better rookie extensions that um

That you know that was signed a year ago 2022 off season um that’s your big trade chip here when we get into the offseason okay this is for the off season so you you know what we can do at the deadline when you get into the off season you

Won’t you won’t be able to send cash you won’t be able to aggregate you won’t be able to put nage and little together and get a $25 million player for example those are some of the restrictions that you are going to be faced with everybody is talking about oh they need a point

Guard point guard tyus Jones how does he fit for me can you go out and get a big wing and I’ve used Royce O’Neal’s name a lot who’s on an expiring contract in um in in Brooklyn as far as how do you go out and do what deal with Royce O’Neal

Okay so little for O’Neal does not work straight up it’s not within 110% so here’s the trade I would like to see remember your draft picks are not all but extinguished but they’re limited you got three you got a bunch of seconds little kada Bates up the three

Picks that you have the least favorable of Detroit Milwaukee and Orlando in 26 a Memphis 282nd and a memph mhis 292 to Brooklyn for Royce O’Neal that’s the one deal out of all this that would probably make sense it gives um Phoenix a big Wing that can defend um I don’t I

Wouldn’t worry about point guard fixing because you can manage as far as what you have right now certainly with beer Booker and you got Jordan Goodwin playing there and you can put roll out Eric Gordon certainly there too um but that is the one deal that if I was Phoenix and doesn’t have

To be Royce O’Neal but a player of that kind of in that that big Wing which are not readily available out there to go out and see if that makes sense here you will get your 2024 first Back the Night of the draft um you will be able to move

That you will be able to have a you know a 2031 that you’ll be able to um you’ll be able to swap um because you owe a 2000 uh well you have swap rats in 20 Washington has swap RS in 2030 right um yeah so you’ll have a 2031 that

You’ll be able to move um down the road that’s the night of the draft it’s funny you go from zero picks available right now and then all of a sudden the night of the draft and all of a sudden you got a 24 and now you got a 2031 because of

The seven-year W window or rule but that’s kind of it in a nutshell with Phoenix I know it’s not like you know people like oh my God like I want to you know I some guy yesterday I did a Utah video and you’re like oh my God it’s so

Boring you know like what do you want me to do say going to trade Lori marinin like it is what it is like it takes two to 10o and you did all your business with uh with Beal and and and Durant here and as I’ve said like patience is

Your best friend here so minor tweaks you can go out and sign a player that was bought out of his contract as long as the player salary was not more than $12.4 million you can go out and do that that is allowed under the apron rules here but you do have some restrictions

You do have some trade exceptions you do have some seconds to use in a deal you’ve got that this your little um that number the Grayson Allen is going to be fascinating this and this will be for the offseason article here the cost to keep Grayson Allen is going

To be like $80 million and I’m not saying $80 million in salary I’m saying if Grayson Allen comes in at a contract at45 million a little bit north of the non- taxman level and you can resign him to that but from a luxury tax standpoint it will cost you like an additional 60

70 million that’s for the off season to figure out here so that’s in a nutshell the Phoenix Suns as far as where they are keyw patience

  1. I wouldn’t touch Allen he has shown to be the most consistent player and he is having a career right now don’t touch him. With Beal Book KD the ball can stay in their hands to make plays so at most just get a decent PG for bench when one of those guys goes sits for few minutes about 15 to 20 minutes for that bench PG. What worries me the most is they need a someone with size who can play above average defense can rebound and shoot 3 or a driver to the paint. As much as Nurkic has put up great numbers he is someone you can play more or less based on matchups because he is a liability on defense. Also If the coaches have already acknowledged to Nurkic to finish plays rather than throwing up the ball up blindly whenever he gets fed in great position and he has not adopted it is a problem. As much as the numbers look good plays like that easily becomes a turnover leading to easy finishes and gets the other teams in great positions. He has shown he can adjust but goes back to it every other game and a team with average defense can’t afford giving up points on offense where you can easily get those shots for others.

  2. The only thing we need to be doing with Grayson Allen, is extending him for a very long time.

  3. I’m a die hard suns fan and people are gonna hate me for saying this but I think Booker is overrated. Trade him and build around Durant and Beal. Contact the raptors and get siakim and picks

  4. As a Suns fan they shouldn’t trade Grayson Allen at all if they wanna get rid of a big contract I’d be open to trading Nurk because this team needs to play fast and we’ve seen with Nurk they slow down

  5. Only acceptable return for Allen at this point is a borderline all-star 3&D. OG getting moved early really made things difficult if Phoenix was looking to use GA as a trade piece.

  6. There only viable assets are 2nd round picks, so adjust expectations accordingly. No one is trading for Nurk, little or Gordon/min guys

  7. We all knew that Phoenix was waiting for the buyout market to open up.

They are top heavy and don't have a lot of guys that teams want.

Buyouts are the only way to improve the team.

Trading CP3 was a bad idea.

  8. need a true point guard for the suns so book doesn't feel like he has to create opportunities for the other guys

  9. They haven't even had time to gel yet, they gotta figure out point guard, but looks like Its Booker. Keep Allen!

  10. We need an athletic wing for closing out on threes and an athletic big to deter paint scoring that vogel evidently loves so much

  11. Milwaukee fucked up not keeping grayson allen. Id rather have him then Dame in the playoffs. Suns better extend him!!
